Hello, @cutandsewstudio938 going to show you how to cut a simple trouser pattern for beginners. This is a great project for anyone who wants to learn how to sew their own clothes or just have some fun with fabric. You don't need any fancy equipment or skills, just some basic tools and a lot of enthusiasm!
The first thing you need to do is measure yourself. You will need your waist, hip, inseam and outseam measurements. You can use a tape measure or a piece of string and a ruler. Write down your numbers and keep them handy.
Next, you need to choose your fabric. You can use any fabric that is not too stretchy or slippery. Cotton, linen, denim, corduroy, wool or flannel are all good choices. You will need about 2 yards of fabric for a standard size trouser.
Now, you need to draw your pattern. You can use a large piece of paper, such as newspaper or wrapping paper, or you can use an old sheet or curtain. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and lay it flat on the paper. Then, follow these steps:
1. Draw a line along the fold of the fabric. This is the center line of your pattern.
2. Mark your waist measurement on the center line, divided by 4. For example, if your waist is 32 inches, mark 8 inches on the center line.
3. Mark your hip measurement on the center line, divided by 4, plus 1 inch for ease. For example, if your hip is 40 inches, mark 11 inches on the center line.
4. Draw a horizontal line across the paper at the waist mark and another one at the hip mark. These are the waistline and the hipline of your pattern.
5. Mark your inseam measurement on the center line, starting from the bottom edge of the paper. For example, if your inseam is 30 inches, mark 30 inches on the center line.
6. Draw a horizontal line across the paper at the inseam mark. This is the hemline of your pattern.
7. Mark your outseam measurement on the hemline, starting from the center line. For example, if your outseam is 40 inches, mark 20 inches on each side of the center line.
8. Draw a vertical line from the outseam mark to the hipline on both sides of the paper. These are the side seams of your pattern.
9. Connect the side seams to the waistline with a smooth curve on both sides of the paper. These are the front and back crotch curves of your pattern.
10. Cut out your pattern along the lines you drew.
