I have struggled trying to tie this FG knot and have failed badly until now. Your simple video tutorial has me feeling more comfortable and thorough with this technique. Thanks so much
Ahhh! Why didn't I think about using the handle to hold the main line! THANK YOU for this fantastic tip! I've been losing my hand/finger dexterity for several years and it's becoming very difficult for me to tie knots. Your method for the FG is the best I've come across.
Indeed the best FG knot video with binding technique so far! My finish are only 2 half hitches and 3x through uni knot without burning the ends - still tight. But the handle-drag-technique a real enlightment since 2 years of FGing!
Reviewed countless videos and instructions looking for a easier way to tie this knot. This is by far the best instructional and easiest way I found to tie the F.G. knot. Grazie mille
Nice tutorial. Beautiful, reliable, and strong knot. Personally, I think 40x is an overkill. With that many, it becomes hard to get a good cinch in the lines. I do mine about 15x. However, to each their own. Thank you for sharing. Best to you and your wife. Tight lines 😊
The absolute best video I've seen on tying the FG knot. Thank you!!! P.S. Let me add...one month later I just successfully tied my second FG knot. The first was 20 lb fluro to 30 lb braid. Today was 8 lb fluro to 8 lb braid on my crappie rod. I know...overkill for crappie but I did it for the ease of casting braid. Thanks again for the great video!!!
I always got confused on how to start my leader on top and then always go under then under on the other side by george i think i just found a easy way remember the rotation great video
This is the fifth video on RU-vid that I've watched on the FG knot tutorial and I think after weeks of staring at my braid and leader I can now finally try to tie them up just like the way this video showed. Thanks for sharing this technique.
AWESOME vid. I never even thought about using the flouro itself to lock in the FG towards the end. I used to just half-hitch the end of the FG knot and then burn the tag braid. BTW now I know why you like fishing HH...that is LITERALLY your backyard!
what a brilliant idea of using the handle to hold the loop of braid, that is great if ever you need to the fg knot if you are out fishing somewhere. well done mate🐟🎣🐟👌
What an absolute great and easy way of tying the FG knott , you're a great teacher brother!! Taking your time to share this ,says so much about you!! Million Likes , thanks again!!
Nice video resulting in a beautiful knot! I too use the reel handle knot to create tension. I didn't think about loosening the drag a bit--will have to try that if it results in a smoother weave. One comment though--you must have kevlar skin on your hands. When pulling the braid and leader in opposite directions to tighten, I would put on leather gloves. I have cut my hands, esp. the braid side, when tightening bare handed.
To bad I didn't see this method before giving up and buying the knot tool. All other methods I watched tried and completely failed at this one I can do....great video and technique.
This is the only video I've seen with tying half hitches with the leader and then the braid. I will say though, since tying it this way I've never had a knot failure.
I did try tying one today and not tying the leader half hitches and was surprised that it was just as strong as with the half hitches tied. Don't know how but it was.
I’ve watched numerous videos looking for an easier method of tying the FG knot over the last few months. I too seem to be lacking manual dexterity and good eyesight due to age and had almost given up on the FG knot. Fortunately, I found your video. Your solution of how to put tension on the main line helped immensely. I just finished tying two FG knots using your method and my RU-vid search is over. Thank you.
My fav.knot to use with the connection. Tip for a super tight knot. Grab an Old Solid foam rod handle/cut in half and wrap That around your Braid and Floro to snug the knot down. I love this knot and will Definetly use your method untilizing the rod handle, never thought about that ... Thanks
Excellent, I’ve watched dozens of FG knot tutorials, this is the clearest and most straightforward of them all. Crisp and concise with no waffling intro, and a few novel twists on the process The only downside was a hint of envy when I saw where you live👍🏼😁 Subscribed and ready for more, cheers!
Best and easiest tutorial on tying the FG know. I've been tying the know for over 2 years with mixed results but no longer. I'm going to use your method. Thanks. But your last couple of minutes of where you live, boats, pier etc is making me jealous. And if you tell me there's tons of fish in your bay, I will have to give you a thumbs DOWN. You made my day on tying the FG knot and then ruined it by showing where you live! LOL
Another problem with just going overboard with the wraps is you heard the snap when the knot was passing through the guides. That has a tendency to actually wear out your guides as well as loosening up the guides from the locking knots when there are more than what's needed to lock the knot as well as it being alot longer than needed.
I’ve used that method for years and have never had an issue with it. I think if you had a rod with micro guides, that might be an issue for sure. I’ve caught thresher shark, Black Sea bass, and yellowtail using that method and as I mentioned earlier… there’s never been any issues with knot failures or function. 🎣😃
Lol. After showing us a beautiful FG, the man is gonna torture us by walking out his back door, down the steps……..to the water. Life just ain’t fair. Lol.
LOL, when I try this my weave just keeps bunching up at the center and does not line up on the flourocarbon leader in a nice little row like yours do. Any help would be appreciated.
FG knot has befuddled me. Many promises of easy FG have never been easy for me. I will check this out, however. I settled on the Polaris (Alberto) knot for braid to leader, and the simplified blood knot (very simple) for polycarbon to polycarbon. Extending the subject. I have fallen in love with the Uni for terminal. So easy on the water, and I have never had one fail.
Hi David. I really like Boomerang Snips. They’re inexpensive and they cut braid really well. They typically from $10.99 to $12.99 on Amazon. Most fishing tackle shops stock them also. They have a cool little clip on a retractable line, so you can attach it to your PFD.🎣😃
Hi Ben… it’s a cutter made specifically for braid, as well as fluorocarbon and monofilament fishing line. The company is called Boomerang and it’s one of the few cutters that really does cut braided fishing line cleanly.🎣😃
Never have I seen anyone half hitch the leader tag over the braid before half hitching the braid tag over leader tag and braid main line….. interesting twist that he doesn’t address. I may try it….
Ive been trying for hours, the difficulty is no different to any other video I've watched. There's no way I can do this, I copy this to the letter and it looks nothing like this. There is no easy FG knot, it simply comes down to whether you can or can't
I really don't understand why people use leaders, it's such a gimmick. Using just mono to the hooks / swivels and it hasn't failed me and a lot of other people in a very long time. If your line breaks it's due to a bad knot, fish that are not rated for that line or it rubs on something and even fluoro will break. All you need is good knots to the sinkers, hooks etc. Fluoro isn't stronger than mono and it's been proven, it's not more clear than mono as well.
I really don't understand why people use mono. Using braid to leader hasn't failed me in a long long time, all you need is good knots :-) It's not a gimmick, with braid I can adapt to any situation and use mono or fluorocarbon leaders at the business end in any length I choose, 1 foot or 20 feet, and in any strength or diameter. Braid can last years and offers way more sensitivity, better hooksets, and longer casts. It's just a better and more versatile system than straight mono or fluoro especially more so when you consider the new sinking braids that are hitting the market.
