Thanks a million!!! Once I got in the sweet spot absolutely simple...now finding her sweet spot took a little time...and until that time I called you somethings I deeply apologize for... I'll never doubt you again.
lol James. Truth.....That's the respect and appreciation I have for you. You didn't have to reveal that for a short time (or long time) I was on the $h!t list and I truly appreciate your honesty and I'm also very glad you found that sweet spot. Now....To help prevent this in the future, slow down when shifting and use positive shifting practices. Simply put, make sure you're in Neutral before selecting the next desired gear. Often, the cause of this is using an "X" shift pattern when it should be an intentional H on its side shifting method. I'm glad it finally "Clicked"!!!! Cheers! Zip~
This was super helpful. You helped so much. For the record I used a large allen key on a Alis 912 six speed to get it out of first. I turned the key down and pushed. It took a while but I was fiddling around blind in there and had to take the pulley off. But now I know how to do it it should go much faster next time. Thank you!
You're very welcome Roaster! And yes, it can be tedious, but the satisfaction if that fork clicking back into its proper place makes it all worth while. Happy Trails! Oh....when shifting gears, do it slowly and with authority, making sure you're in neutral then positively engaging the desired gear. This happened on the tractor in the video ONE time and after changing my methods of shifting it never happened again. Cheers! Zip~
Awesome! I'm glad you were able to follow my video. If you shoot some PB Blaster onto the shift fork that's stuck and gently try moving the shift lever back and forth I think you'll find that it will loosen up. If anything else comes up, just give me another holler!! And...Congrats on an excellent, EXCELLENT purchase!!
Before this trick was discovered, many said, the only way to get them out of being between gears was to do just that. But...where there's a will, there's a way. This is one of my most popular videos and it's saved MANY tractors and owners from the landfills. Cheers Festus! Zip~
I finally got it! It is pretty simple, in theory, once you figure out what's going on in there & where the forks are. Mine was stuck in 1st & I was able to get it back in the neutral position with a small pry bar. I have to admit that I watched this several times before it sunk in, but it eventually did. Thanks Zippo!
Awesome Sir Pipe!!!! Yeah, it takes a little practice and studying to get the visual in your head. I did as best I could to show the internals, but I couldn't shrink my self down small enough lol. Cheers Buddy! Zip~
+ZippoVarga thanks man, surfing your videos i found the one you mention, the only difference is that in this case it was stucked in 1st gear, but the way of fixing is pretty much the same. Now IT's ALIVE!!!. There is a bunch of pieces i have to clean and adjust and your videos are very clear, even more here in Argentina where it's hard to find manuals and pieces. Regards.
+Facundo José Yatchesen Facundo, I'm very glad you were able to follow the video and get the tractor back in service! It's why I make the videos. If you have other questions, check my videos. There's over 500 and most cover these tractors and engines. Cheers!! Zip~
@1371ken Next tip.....squirt some oil into the hole so you're sure to saturate the shift forks and gears from the top. Let it sit a day or so to soak in, then give it a go again. Persistence will prevail, but if it has been stuck in gear for a while, it may take a while to get it to break loose. Also, if the tractor will roll with it in gear, then get it to roll so the gears will move and then oil again. Keep at it. It will eventually work.
Hey....Thanks a lot for the compliment! Most of my videos are a result of requests. I enjoy helping where I can in this global venue. I only piss off those who want people to bring their problems to them so they can extort their ignorance. To the haters....get over it...lol. Thanks again for the compliment! It's nice to be appreciated!!
@ericvega1975 As these tractors age, things wear out. In the case of the transmission getting caught between gears where it won't shift or in the case of many wheel horses I've seen that jump out of gear is just a result of time and use. Everything wears out eventually. With these Simplicities, the shifter pin and/or guide pins wear out and gives the shifter pin enough slack that it gets past the pins with out taking the tranmission out of gear first.
Hey ZippoVarga, Glad I found you man! Mine was stuck in first gear, so I followed your instructions and got it freed. It wasn't as easy as you said though, as I poked around in there for quite a while with my bent screwdriver before I finally pushed or pulled the right thing. I really could not see anything inside that small hole even with a flashlight, so I was shooting blind. Don't really remember exactly what action freed it for me, but it did work. I'm wondering now just why it locked up in the first place, and whether it is it likely to just lock up again when I start shifting. Is there some specific lube point that I should hit with oil or grease to minimize my chances of this happening again? Anyway, thanks again man, I was about to go out and spend some serious bucks on this thing. You da man...
I have found this situation primarily on tractors where the operator was struggling with an out of adjustment clutch and has been slamming the tractor into and out of gear.
@skunkhome It's like I told Rob over on the other sight.....I'm much better at SEEING how to do something than I am reading about it. Glad the video is doing it's intended purpose......Helping others out! There's a bunch more where this one came from, sit a spell.......enjoy and I am always taking video requests.
Hi Zippo, My Allis Chalmers 410 only clicks when i turn the key.. It turned over twice but then the starter stopped turning over. It has worked for many years prior. I bridged the solenoid to see if the starter or what I think is the starter would work and got a shower of sparks like I was hooking pos to neg on a battery. It even left a spot on the nut which is under the black boot on the alternator /starter assembly. Not sure is going on but without a manual or schematic for this tractor I am not sure what is going on here... If I need a starter do you have any idea where to find one? I cant find anything that looks like it. Any help would be appreciated even if only a comment. Thank you man.. You do great videos!
You should be able to remove the shifter it self and position it correctly into the groove that is off set. You should see two "forks"....one will be centered, the other off to one side or the other. The one that is off to one side is where you want to reinsert the shifter. Best of luck to you!!
I'm new to the Simplicity world. I have a 1970 something Broadmoor System 5010 that's stuck in Third I believe based on speed and the fact it got stuck as I was shifting into reverse. Will this trick get me running again? Any help is appreciated as she is my only snow blower and I live in New England.
I have a Alice Chambers series Ii stuck in 2nd gear,I took side plate off and rear tire and thought I fixed it ,but when I put it all together...I can put it in any gear but it is still stuck because it kills my tractor when I let clutch out...what can I do without tearing it down again???
we have an allis chalmers model G tractor that the clutch is stuck. we've tried rocking the tractor back and forth and pulling it with another tractor..without results. can you help with this problem?
Hi guys, I have a question about my allis chalmers Big 10. Need to replace axle seal on differential side. Got wheel off got into differential, took out snap ring and 3 washers and can't get any further. I need some HELP.
Hey Zippo.... I picked up a 3410 shuttle and it won't shift in to 1st or 3rd Any easy fix or test? works fine in 2nd and 4th needs a gas cap and a carb rebuild.(carb leaks) also whines when in reverse..assuming it's the brake band... I was playing with it and got it in to 1st...now can't get it out...
Hey zippo I have a simplicity sovereign 7016 stuck in first I tried to do what you said but can’t seem to get the fork back to neutral do you have anymore advise.
Keep at it. You might want to squirt some PB Blaster into the hole and onto the shift forks and the shafts they ride on. It'll work! Sometimes takes a while, but that moment it slips back into place you'll do your happy dance and the ole 7016 will be back in business. Zip~
The 6116 is different then your video, the shifter is on a stud that comes out the front. The stud has a flange that the shifter is attached to. the flang broke off. Partstree shows the trany 1690422 is the model. I'm not sure how to hook you up with a video?? Thanks, Dan
My B-10 (or Monkey Ward equal -no labels) tranny is jammed. Tractor cannot be moved. Problem started with no second gear, just freewheeled. All other gears worked and shifter felt normal. Now tranny is locked up, shifter still feels normal. Any suggestions other than disassembly? If its a broken gear, what the chance of finding replacement gears?
Know this video is old, just wanted to see if any one could help with a 6116 trany issue. Broke the shifter off, took the rear end out welded it back on, reassembled and now can only shift into first. Anyway to fix?
zippo my landlord is stuck in gear, but the shifting forks look like they are properly aligned. broken shift fork. i'm stumped. waiting for a service manual . you really know your way around these tractors, i am pretty new at it.
If you're caught in a gear and the shifter moves and goes into other gears (except for the one opposite of the current gear it's stuck in), then this video is the solution. If the pin has sheared off the shift rod that goes between the two gear selector forks inside the transmission, then the shifter will do nothing but flop around. Zip~
Hey Zippo, got a 8050 Deutz stuck in 4th. Not sure exactly where to find this bolt. Is it directly under the shifter inside the cab or outside? Thanks for the video.
Totally different Animal (Problem) Gabriel, and one that I'm sorry to say I cannot help with, as I'm not familiar enough with the 8050 to offer assistance. I apologize and wish you the best. Zip~
Help...mine won't get out of gear Zippo...tried all the bent screwdriver tricks....what do I do...is in 3rd and reverse...712S 1980 AC...anybody in Cincy here that could help me...
I was hoping that you would have a video on replacing rear axle seal left side setting on simplicity tractor , if you do please forward it to me. Thanks 6/27/2016
hi I have bin watching alot of your vids, I acquired a B10 , and a B112 and a old Ford 100 from a trade for a chainsaw. not able to get any of them running I swapped the engine on the B112 for a KUBOTA 13 horse single cylender that I repurposed from a 6500 watt generator. well now the tractor drives backwards in 1st 2nd & 3rd also it drives forward when in reverse not to mention that it does this at a very slow pace till it throws the belt. I am not uderstanding why this happend thanks for your time any help would be appreciated.
I have a 1976 Allis Chalmers 610 with a four speed manual transmission that is stuck in 3rd. I have the top plug out and can see the shift fork but not sure how to move it to get it out of third. It is the small frame 10 hp garden tractor with tiller, blower and mower.
David W Maaske I was able to push the shift fork with a screw driver to unlock the third gear. It works fine now and I know how to fix it if it happens again.
I've got a ?, I can't get to 1st and 3rd, it shifts in to 2nd and reverse but it will not go up to 1,3. blockage under the dash where the rod goes, or broken something
+Kraken King There is a small guide that the shift rod slides through. If the "cage nut" fell out of the hole, then you will have problems moving the shift rid forward and back. It's buried WAY deep under the dash, but if you take the shift quadrant cover off (that the shift rod comes through) you can access the piece and replace the cage nut. Zip~
can you help Have a Alis chalmers HD Crawler , Runs good turns good but after a few minutes With everything in Neutral I have the clutch in if you let it out it kills the engine Could it be the Hydraulic pump?
My apologies. I cannot help, as I'm not familiar with the machine you're working on. I suggest searching RU-vid for your HD Crawler and ask someone who owns one. Cheers!! Zip~
I have a Simplicity GTG14 ( 1692024 ) 6 speed , Tough Torq k210A ( gear ) that locks up ( mostly) in Neutral, but sometimes in "R" or "1". With the linkage disconnected I cannot even budge the shift arm @ the transaxel. Any ideas ?
This model has the Peerless transaxle and the Bentonite that was used as a gear lube in the case. Over time, the Bentonite, which is actually a Clay compound mixed with a petroleum thinning agent separates back into oil and the Bentonite. When this happens, the Bentonite clay becomes very sticky. Your best bet is to drill a small hole in the top of the transaxle and add gear oil. Typically a quart is plenty enough. Be aware though. These transaxle's are not sealed units, so expect the gear oil to weep a little from the axle inputs and possibly the brake disc shaft. It's also a good idea to use a thin oil like 3 in 1 and drip it down the gear selector shaft. Within the gear case the shift selector shaft has a spring loaded ball bearing that falls into the detentes within the gear case. So you'll need to be patient and drip oil every few minutes while turning the selector shaft from reverse through to the highest gear until the shifting smooths out. When the tractor is in use, you'll want to have a rubber plug in the hole you drilled to prevent contaminants from entering through the hole and potentially causing premature wear to the internal components. Good Luck! And, I've got an older video series showing the internals of these transmissions. Here is a link to a rant I posted a while back. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I-fRSonIwug.html Zip~
Interesting ! Bebtonite is the main compoun in cat litter You may be correct on the problem and fix, however; I do N0T have a Peerlesstransaxel. My tractor has a Tuff Torq K 210-A mechanical geared transaxel. The center gear case splits vertically not horizontally. It has a drain plug and fill cap. The steel axels are located externally from the housing and not encased in it. Upon examining the Simplicity rebuild manual I suspected the problem might possibly be in the shift detent , the shift fingers or shoft detent shaft. I believe Ill split the case , examine and internally flush the case and refillit.
No it will not. Totally different machine. Best bet is to find an individual either on here or at simpletractors dott comm to ask about repairs. I've dealt with the Peerless transmissions in your machine before and they're a pain in the rear. It's usually much easier to find a replacement (typically around the 75 to 100 dollar price point.) Replacing them is a simple process and one I've done in about an hour. Is your transmission a 3 speed Variable or 5 speed? Being a smaller frame tractor, the transmission isn't made the same as the larger framed models. Also, your tractor was manufactured between 1978 and 1985. These are not years I am as familiar with. If it's a 3 speed Variable, it may be easier to fix than the 5 speed Peerless models. Best of luck and sorry I couldn't be of more help! Cheers! Zip~
That is a different breed of tractor and the transmission is also nothing like the one I show this fix on. Unfortunately, if it's the 3 speed, I don't know enough about them to help out. Perhaps someone on one of the collector sights can be of some assistance. Sorry I couldn't offer more info! Zip~
+Michelle Wells With the WC being a large farm type tractor, I'm afraid I'm not the one to ask as I'm not familiar enough with the larger tractors to be of much assistance. Regards Zip~
If the shift lever moves forward and back freely with the transmission in reverse, then this is the fix. In the video, I show the forward fork rod because it was easier to get on camera. If you can't see the rear fork rod, remove the wheel from that side of the tractor so you can get a better vantage point. The actual fork it self points downward. Since the tractor is stuck in reverse, the fork needs pulled towards you. Put the shift lever full forward so the pin on the shifter rod is not in the way. Their are two rods that each hold the fork for 1st and reverse and the other for 2nd and 3rd gear. The 1st and reverse is the rod towards the rear. Insert the bent screwdriver positioned with the hook towards 8 o'clock to the far side of the rod (deep within the access hole) and drag it along the rear shaft towards you. The driver will make contact with the top of the fork. At that point, leverage the bent screwdriver against the hole and push the handle of the screwdriver away from you a single click. If you feel two movements, you went too far. The idea is to center the fork between 1st and reverse. Check to see if the large pulley will spin freely with the clutch depressed without the wheels moving. If so, you have returned the shift fork to the correct position and can replace the plug. To prevent this in the future, make your shifts more slowly and make sure you are in neutral before attempting to select another gear.
I got once but when I ran it through the gears it got stuck again !!!! the pin with the ball on it is super loose could that make a difference ??? fork doesn't move very easy I can see what u r talking about clearly !!! the shift lever moves forward and back freely lots play though???? anything would help ????
ZippoVarga mess with it all day every time I would get it in neutral it would just go back to being stuck in reverse ???new tranny time ??? HELP !!! PLEASE AND THANK U!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a Allis 410 that is stuck in reverse and when I put it in....1st? I think, it will make a squealing sound and bog the engine. ive been trying this trick but haven't figured it out just yet. any ideas would be greatly appreciated
+Bio Hazardra Hey Bio, I often don't get my comments like I should and yours slipped through the RU-vid cracks. This video, with practice on your machine, will get the shift fork centered. You want to pull the shift lever back towards 2nd and reverse, out of the way, while doing this. Hope you get it sorted out!! Cheers!! Zip~
ZippoVarga Thanks Zippo :) I tried playing around with it but the shift forks aren't my problem I find. I took the transmission off and took it apart, and did not see anything wrong. no chipped teeth, no cracks, nothing. I am not sure if there is a gear out of place but it doesn't seem like it. I have no clue what is wrong. thanks for the help tho. love your vids :D
+Bio Hazardra Sorry to hear of your continuing issues Bio...Is your tractor a strait 3 speed or a variable drive? The Simplicity versions of either transmission are compatible and they're fairly easy to find through collectors clubs. Cheers!! Zip~
ZippoVarga yea its a 3 speed + reverse when I first got it it would drive backwards but the shifter would still shift in all gears, just not pull. then one day I got it to where I could roll it around and I just left it sitting there and it locked itself back up! like a gear settled or something and locked it up. I don't know whats wrong with it. I am going to try seeing if a friend could help but other than that idk what to do. garden tractors around here are rare as hens teeth nearly. I was lucky to get this one
hey i just came across your channel and im having trouble fixing my 1971 simplicity landlord 3410. its stuck in second gear, everytime i put it in 2nd it gets stuck. i have it all apart right now but i dont know much about these rear ends or how they work. if you could give me any advice or things to look for to try and fix this problem id be very thankful. message me back or i can give my email/ number to contact me. ive been researching the internet to try and find manuals or forums but im having no luck. thank you either way
Find me on Facebook by going to my home page and clicking on the Facebook icon on the banner at the top. There, you can message me and I can send you manuals on your machine to help you along. Sticking in gear is usually just a little rust that's formed on the shafts the gears ride on and the fix is actually quite easy. But since you have the transmission apart, just oil everything down well with a thin synthetic oil and reassemble. Check all of the cross shafts that the gear selector sides on for any abnormalities like burrs or rust, and correct that. Cheers! Zip~
What’s it mean if the tractor on trams in reverse but I can move the selector rod. I’ve been fishing in the gear box trying to get it out of reverse but I can’t feel anything
The lever is up between 1 and 3 and will go in either but the gear box is stuck in it will not turn. I can’t get the lever to go back to 2 or reverse. Any idea what’s wrong?
ZippoVarga thanks for the info. I’ll keep trying. It I can’t get it by the time I get space in the shop I’ll just split it. As bad as I hate too. But I really need to get this tractor going.
@1371ken Honestly.......and don't cringe when I tell you this.....take a dead blow hammer and whaco it to see if it will go into second. If it does, as you use it the problem will resolve it self. Also, make sure there is enough gear oil in the transfer case.
Ok so I did this once before and it worked great but now even though I can see the ball slide forward and backwards and physically see it shift im still somehow stuck in a gear tractor is currently not running and I need to move it, I cannot figure out whats going on
What gear is it stuck in? There are two sets of forks. It sounds to me like you just have to locate the second fork and center it. Keep us posted! Zip~
@@ZippoVarga yeah I watched it shift both sets.. i had to call it quits for the night so I just sprayed a bunch of penetro 90 in it because thats all I had, went back in the morning and watched it shift both sets again put it in neutral and it really was neutral lol one of them much have been just slightly off ..... but thanks sooooo much for this video
My Squire 9 is also stuck in 2nd and I was hopeful the screwdriver trick would work for me. Instead, there was a loose something floating around inside the transmission that I was able to remove with a magnet. Here's a pic: pbs.twimg.com/media/BizDKisIEAEG51x.jpg I think I have a big job ahead of me. Any advice greatly appreciated.
Oh yeah...You've got a big issue there. That is the ball that is supposed to be attached to the shift rod which rides between the forks and pushes them into and out of gear. You need ti either split the case in half and replace the ball OR, the easier way to remedy the problem (although it doesn't sound easier) is to replace the trans-axle with a known good one. They are available and typically will set you back about two hours of shop time and in the area of $75.00 for the donor axle. I would do the latter before tearing into the trans-axle. But, if you're good with a wrench and have a bit of spare time, it's a great learning experience to tear into them. The fortunate thing here is that you were able to retrieve the shifting pawl, which kept it from getting into the gears and REALLY making your day bad. A couple places you can post a classified wanted add is SimpleTractors.com and Michaelstractors.com. Both are dedicated to preserving these machines and there's a wealth of information with the members in attendance. Best of luck and don't give up! If you have questions, just ask around!
So, lets say I have the time, the wrenches, and am not afraid of failure. Do you think the parts I need can be had without buying a whole trans-axle? I'm especially concerned about having to replace seals and such and not being able to get them. Should I do this, is there a correct order of operations to removing the back-end so I can get at the broken parts? I guess I should also say that I've never attempted something like this before.
If you've never attempted the repair of an automobiles manual transmission, I wouldn't attempt this repair on your own. There are many important clearances, dis-assembly and reassembly steps to take to make the job go smoothly and this takes experience and know how. The gaskets and seals are available through a number of dealers. The best of which is Sandylakeimp.com. If you choose to dive in, I would call them and ask for Brenda. Tell her Zippo sent you and she will treat you like a VIP and get you what you need as well as make suggestions for what to replace. As for finding a replacement shifter pawl, this would be something you could obtain through fleabay or by way of a wanted classified on SimpleTractors.com or Michaelstractors.com. Most will concur that replacing the trans-axle is the way to go. You can always revert back to this option if you find yourself overwhelmed after getting things apart. Best of luck to you in your endeavors James! Cheers!! Zip~
I have an Allis Chalmers B-210. Could you help and indicate if the screw driver is in the 9 o'clock position or at 7 o'clock. Past owner indicated that rhe unit locked in reverse while snow blowing and has sat since. Gear shift can move to 1st, 3rd and 2nd but nor reverse.
