Join Brian, Greg and I and featured guest Glade Sessions as we talk about ways to simplify and streamline your beekeeping operation for success. Glade is a successful sideline beekeeper from the rugged mountains and high plains of Utah where it can be quite complicated to keep bees alive. He has developed simple strategies that have proven successful. He has the mind of a teacher and enjoy giving back to the beekeeping community and helping others succeed. He has a RU-vid channel that is very well done. His low key, methodical approach to beekeeping is easy to understand and worth a watch. We are glad he agreed to join us!

Ha Bruce enjoyed the chat I simplified by retiring from my job after 28 years. I do not have to rush I donot have to do all the bees in 1-2 days on the weekends. I over winter in 2 deeps and a med better for the spring less chances of swarming easy in the spring check and rotate boxes. They come out of the winter with lots of room. I feed everyone as soon as I pull the suppers by buckets trickle feed so the queen will not shut down. I have encreased my apairy to 60 I do not want any more then that. I do not raise my queens yet I cant see either I am hoping to try again, next year. anyway the chat was great hope every thing works out good for you. Have a blessed week

Yeah I’m sure he is frustrated with the way I do things with my queen situation but I just have a struggle trying to really put a lot of time and effort into breeding my own stock. I just need bees that are alive and produce.

With the question on what queens to use. I have used russian itatians carnies and the sascatras I did not spell that right. you know how I got my stock I treat them all the same feeding treating every bit is the same, the ones that come out of winter alive is what calls it for me. The russian were mean but that would be ok if they came trough the winter but all of them died in the winter when I tryed them I bought 20 queens, the sas ca tras I did the same they came out dead. the itatians lived and the carnies so that is my stock. I tryed Gregs as well and they did not make it either. I used the beeweaver to and they just swarmed so I have carnies and itatians, and it works for me. They turn into my local mutts. They are doing great I do not care how much they eat I want them alive. They are large numbers going into winter because I feed them doing our very long dearth, I want them strong numbers coming out of the winter we have very short season if they do not come out strong I get no honey I got 312 lb of honey this year out of 20 this is good for here I am in a city we just have trees, cant wait till next year. Also this season I could work my bees with a veil it was great I do use gloves most of the time because my hands get so messy. but it is really nice to work the bees with just a veil I keep my jacket close just in case But I am up to 60 now but as u know bees are nicer at certain times of the day. Any way the chat was great hope u have a very blessed week
