Thank you so much Randy!! I fish Clarkshill and it’s very tough for new anglers like myself to fish these blueback lakes. No one ever gives any info outside of the blueback spawn. I would love to do a virtual lesson or attend a seminar on all the different seasons for these blueback lakes. Please ,please keep doing what you and Jonny are doing it is invaluable. I really look forward to your Hartwell videos it will help tremendously. Thank you
Truly love the videos... Fishing blue back herring lakes don't fall in love with a spot... stick and move... fish slow or thorough..then move.. you're first 10 casts if the fish are there will be most important...
Randy I'm 52 and been fishing places like the Arkansas river, Lake Ouachita, Lake Degray, Lake Conway etc. since I was 8 years old and while I have been very good you have unlocked a new level with my shallow water work.I used to be a clear water junkie and now I am looking for the mud.
Excellent intel Randy. In the 90s my family would fish Russell the cute lake sandwiched in between the ones you mentioned and we were always fishing numbers and not size. We always focused on the lower creeks. I have never had a problem locating blue backs. We simply would cast a spinner bait until we had them start following back to the boat then put our fishing focus in those areas. Good luck I I the derby and have been wondering what happened to you. You were such a presence in the 90s when I heavily followed bass. I am now a subscriber and good luck. We always blasted them on those lake with a 4in salt and pepper zoom ringworm on a slider head. I love those lakes because I think their unpredictablity makes them predictable. Always through flukes around bridges and their structure. Great video.
Please keep up this kind of content....your videos are great. I am in California nowhere near a blueback herring and it was still really interesting. Thank you!
Fished with you on the last day of the Maryland Top 150 in 1998. You helped me finish 4th in the Amateur side. I live on Hartwell now and this video really helps. Tight lines!
Wow Randy, this helps a bunch. I have been living a couple miles from the boat ramp at Lake Glenville,(Thorpe Res.), for a little over a year now and I struggle to find fish here. I can catch huge slob sized yellow perch and occasionally I find bass deep and catch them on heavy jiggin rap style lures. One day I got into huge crappie, some of which were well over three pounds each. nine out of ten times though, its the dead sea. Blueback herring are the forage mostly . Now I have a better idea of what to figure on as I search the lake for the bass. Thanks Randy. George.
Great advice. As we live in Dalton, GA, Chickamauga is my main lake, but we have a condo on Lake Chatuge on the GA/NC border and it is a herring lake. We visit it several times a year on weekends and my BassCat/Yamaha is in tow. You are spot on with the comment about viewing the lake in sections. Lower, at the dam, is full of schoolers and the upper end (river) is much more a traditional area, while the mid lake tends to be dead for a good portion of the year. Best of luck at Hartwell and wave as you go back home.
Sorry don't comment much. Use my phone most of the time but I never miss a video. Learn a lot. Live in Northwest Montana have a bass tracker xl classic. everything I need. Not good enough to spend too much. Thank you for your videos.
Great info Randy. Always good to hear your point of view. Cannot wait to see the break down of this lake. This is my home lake, so should be very interesting.
I cannot wait for all of your Hartwell footage to come out from practice and the tournament! I went out there Saturday and it was tough until i got on a topwater flurry around 3pm.
I've fished Hartwell 50 yrs.anglers would do very well to take a course on herring! Learn the forage!! Learn all you can about the blue back herring! This will help bass fishermen on herring lakes tremendously! Guys, herring are not shad!
Floating out in the middle of a Creek making a video while practicing and that little smirk on his face while doing so. He is on em guys....lol. Go get em Randy!!! Good luck Man.
