Because for his point the sequence of sentences is all that matters. It is how it would read in a transcript without the characters' names. Some sites do that. Furthermore, he used ellipsis to make clears there were other sentences before the last one.
This episode is based on something that really happened. In the 1960's the American town of Centralia, PA used an abandoned mine shaft to dispose of their garbage, when the garbage got too much they set it on fire to try to get rid of it but the fire went out of control under the ground and filled the town with toxic gas. They had to abandon and demolish all the buildings in the entire town as a result and everyone was displaced.
Holy shit, I knew about that town and how they abandoned it, but never knew it was due to trash. I thought it was just due to a natural gas deposit setting aflame or something.
Yup. I live about 10 miles from Centralia and its a trip. Going there in the winter is insane. All the houses, except for two, are completely gone. All roads in the area will be covered in snow, but the old town roads there are clear of snow. Had family who lived there when the sinkholes started..
Incorrect on some important details. The landfill of Centralia was located in an abandoned strip -mine pit. That is, an open-air area where they were doing surface mining. However (and the cause is disputed that either it was intentional to "clean up some of the garbage" or unintentional - a trash hauler dumping hot ash onto the area), the fire got so out of control, it spread to the entrance of an underground mine, in which then gasses were detonated and fires spread throughout the labyrinth of abandoned coal passages. No garbage was ever stored IN the underground mines at all.
@@Jerram89 It was a parody of an incident that happened with Redd Foxx at a convention who walked off stage because of the lack of attendance, which is why they played the Sanford & Son theme in the exact same fashion.
Fun fact: It is based off of an actual anti-pollution ad. To be specific, it's the Iron Eyes Cody "Crying Indian" ad for the Keep America Beautiful foundation.
This episode is a total masterpiece. One of my favourites. I love how it starts with the Simpson family arguing about who should bring out the garbage and ends with the town completely destroyed. And in the middle Homer gets beaten up to Pride (in the Name of Love) at a U2 concert.
In the Spanish Dub (Not sure about English) Homer grunted that he was gonna take revenge and unwind with everyone... He did by flooding Springfield with Trash from many states
(Turns around anyway) “BWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
In the Latin American dub, the Native American starts to cry instead of shouting a big scream at the end, that little detail always made this ending so much dark and hollow
As bizarre and random as that short Sanford and Son interlude was at 2:00 there actually is a joke behind it that makes its a hell of a lot funnier in context. There was a convention where Redd Foxx came onto stage where the band played the theme song from the show, but apparently what happened was along the lines of him looking at the audience where attendance was so lacking that Foxx basically told off everyone there and left back off while the confused band played him off in one of the most awkward moments ever. It is a random ass joke but it's one of the more underrated ones.
While not to this extent, it's not uncommon for towns to advertise themselves as waste repositories. Toole in Utah has been doing it for some time, taking considerable amounts of radioactive material with it.
@@moteroargentino7944 I might be missing your comment's point, but in this episode alone, it is explaining the dangers of style politics over substance ones.
I wholeheartedly respect Ray Patterson when he told the town to piss off after they disrespected him. And that rendition of "Sandford & Son" as Ray walks off leaving the town to reap what they sowed always gets me!
This video has haunted my suggestions for a pretty long time now, for I did not dare to click it because of the intriguingly ambiguous title "Simpsons Clip". What is the clip about? What characters does it feature? Is it classic or newer Simpsons? Do I remember the episode? Do the jokes land for me? The questions it raises are so numerous. The only hint it gives you is the thumbnail, which features the statue of Jebediah Springfield fallen over and a trashed city square. My guess was that the clip could be of one of the various scenes of riots in Springfield, perhaps the aftermath of the soccer riot in "The Cartridge Family", or the blackout riots from "Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge", or even the frighteningly prescient Jimmy Carter statue riot from "Marge in Chains". After contemplating the title and thumbnail many times over perhaps the past few months, I was afraid the unfinished puzzle and speculation would be far more titillating to the imagination than anything the actual clip could include. I wondered if it would be most exciting to just never click the video and keep savouring the mystery. But eventually my curiosity grew too large to ignore, and here I, finally, am! Oh, it's just final minutes from the garbage man episode...
@@crypastesomemore8348 I think in the first seasons it was almost as funny as the simpsons, some episodes even better but now its just total trash, even more trash than current day simpsons
@@crypastesomemore8348 no I was just saying that although I like both shows people often compare them and say that simpsons is better because it's so wholesome but they disregard episodes like this. I don't even know how you managed to misinterpret what I said
@Simz Zxy But she’s always been a pretentious, self-righteous twat. You guys are just looking at her through rose-tinted glasses. Just listen to her in any of the early episodes, and watch how quickly you yell, “How do you know that?’”
Can’t really blame Homer for this one completely. The people of Springfields were the ones who voted in an idiot. Who’s the greater fool; the fool, or the fool who follows him?
Nobody talking about how strong the town is to be able to move concrete buildings (intact) and onto flatbed trucks that are carrying them perfectly balanced, unsecured, and with no problems. 2:54
@@albogypsy2842 Apparently not if i have 9 more likes then you. Re-recommended this clip. Forgot i posted this. Yet, they liked what i said more that. So yea, keep the logic for those you can truly disprove 100% of the way.
"Oh gosh. You know I'm not much on speeches but it's so gratifying to leave you wallowing in the mess you've made. You're screwed. Thank you. Bye." What the critics told the makers of Madame Web.
So Simpson's Road Rage was the old Springfield b4 Homer wrecked it! And the new one is the Springfield in Hit'N'Run! That's why the maps are completely different!!🤣😉
But if all previous spots are dumps, wouldn't it make it easier to narrow down what's left? I guess 10% of the map is Shelbyville while the other 90% is Real Estate for Springfield. Plus, a convoy of moving building somehow goes undetected.
That's more common than you think. Big chunks of Paris cant be built any taller because of how many unmapped tunnels exist. They still find parts of the catacombs when doing renovations.
Skinner's mom getting a literal mouthful of disgusting moist garbage and probably swallowing some of it is one of my favourite moments in Simpsons history.
I like how Homer jumped from his house into Moe’s when the latter’s entrance was visibly on the other side a couple of shots prior. Or is the back just identical for some reason?
You know when they thought it was awful that all the trash was going into the abandoned mine, it was only an abandoned mine although Homer is to blame for all the trouble.
It's the Sanford and Son theme, they literally only had that short interlude because it was a parody of an incident that happened at a convention where Redd Foxx walked on stage to the music being played, and noticing that the attendance was extremely lacking, he basically told everyone off and walked off stage, which prompt the band to play him off confusedly.
