Sims 4's Trailers Aren't Very Realistic Sometimes, Are They? 

I just hate how the hospital is? NOBODY WORKS THERE EXCEPT ME. There's no rush. So unrealistic.

what triggers me the most is when the trailer shows a world full of sims but in the game it's just .... embarrassingly empty.

I love that the team is putting effort into promoting, but IMO when you animate sims for artworks or add plenty of sims to the world in trailers, when in reality it's not the case, it sets the expectations apart. Bc you know they do special stuff to make the DLC look attractive but if you look at other games, regardless of simulation, if they're so good they don't need the added exaggeration since the content speaks for it self..

Has anyone else ever noticed how the "gameplay trailers" usually show LESS of the new gameplay than the reveal trailers?

To answer your question, ALL-OF-THEM. I get done with a expansion pack in less than a week. I usually use them all for decorations. Hell, I cheat just to get the collectibles because I fail to see any incentive to get my Sims out of the house aside from work. And it's REALLY bad when other players create mods just to give the game life. To which, THANK YOU!!!!

Like the fact that Snowy Escape showed interactive use of Simstagram but that was just for marketing. I haven’t followed this part of the game for as long. I just got into it during quarantine but I totally get why a lot of players are expressing disappointment at where the game is now and folks not being excited about any new game in the franchise.

The most unrealistic thing about Dine Out for me is the fact that you can go to a restaurant with your SO for a cutesy 8am breakfast date, but don't leave the restaurant until midnight that day because it took the place *12 hours* to bring your meals, then *4 hours* for you to actually eat them. I haven't had a restaurant in my game for this entire year, because there's no fix for this whatsoever. No mods, no patches. The pack is literally unplayable with the actual restaurant. The items by themselves are fine, but not the venue at all

Get Famous just reminded me how bad I want a sequel to The Movies.

what got it for me was the promise when the base game came out that "you can customize your sims even more by click and drag instead of sliders" and like yeah they got that but then there was nothing else custom about it. set skin/eye/hair colors and no way to edit the "dyed" part of hair (what if i want a brunette sim with pink tips instead of green?). same with the clothes and furniture and build mode items, set colors and no way to customize patterns. it made everything look so bland. the "even more" was taken out to "this is the only way to make your sim not look like it walked out of the random sim generator".

If ROM had a quest aspect like strangerville and journey to bantuu it would've been a ton more fun

Things that could've been included in the get to work game that even I can think of: Workaholic trait: sims will get angry if their work is not done perfectly, they stray from their families and ignore their needs to get work done Alien communicator trait: these sims become excited when around aliens and gain positive buffs And lastly, THE ABILITY TO GO WITH CHILDREN TO SCHOOL Not to mention more businesses and lots in the given world

One thing I really miss is having the dean over to get my kid into private school. That was such a fun task as I’d try different things each time and had different outcomes. Sims 4 I just hand my homework in yay?

one thing i noticed in the Get Famous trailer where they are in the movies... @4:40 you literally see their legs clip into eachother. im surprised they let that show.

Throwback to when strangerville came out and people thought we were getting three-person selfies, which would have been such a good addition EA!

i have completely given up on sims 4 and went back to sims 2. having so much fun actually playing the game and all the drama and the chaos that unfolds naturally, without player intervention.

@3:50 yeah family owned businesses would be great for Get To Work...maybe a future patch for Retail and Restaurant Lots? Sad to say but I agree Carl. Marketing relies on our excitement and high expectation reactions in order to sell their products. It’s kind of like false advertising.

Everytime I see a group eat at a table together in a trailer I get disappointed when they keep changing seats in game

My expectations for the sims 4 are so low right now every trailer I see for the game for a new pack the first thing that pops into my head is " okay....but how much of this are we going to be able to do? " In sims 3 pretty much everything they showed in the trailers you could actually do in the game

it seems you are saying alot of what i am saying and you mean it in a much woder perview where is i point to a specific so i 100% agree . But as i said before that would be a great thing for you to make a video on - the freedom in relationships/interactions is key to creating the open ended reactions you want = having a 19 year old aka teen being able to date up and so on like an adult adds responsibility and consequences to actions having no limit to relationship dynamics meaning more then 1 accepted spouce in a relationship adds depth and complexity in needing to not only develope 1 relationship but two others that connect or date someone who wants that but tryng to make it a one to one relationship. then theres the outward interaction friends and passer by sims could have . these are choices that should be given to the player and offer untold amounts of play.

Trailers in general aren't expected to be accurate. It is to hype and make buzz, get attention. Game trailers? Oh please, that's the most inaccurate of all. Remember movie trailers? And the line... where is this scene from the trailer. Its not in the movie..

I dont play sims much because my imagination with the game is'nt there, And im glad i watched this because i been wanting to buy packs to get some sort of a theme going on... But its not worth it.

Man I've never really thought about this, but it's very much true. At this point I'm always looking at the trailers with the most skeptical look and trying to guesstimate what's real and what's marketing. Personally I'm not sure where my first trailer disappointment was, but I sure am wary of anything the marketing team puts out. And I never really thought about Get To Work being a bad pack in terms of legitimately expanding the game. Like, yes, I didn't think it was the best expansion pack, but I never really did think about how much it expanded the rest of the world/game, and it doesn't much. Even if I still like it, I do remember being kind of miffed seeing no new traits or aspirations, but brushing it off but brushing it off because, hey, it's The Sims! It's fine! I think my first real disappointment was Cats & Dogs tbh, but not because the trailer was lying. In fact, I think the trailer was packed with quite a bit of real gameplay. But, honestly, the gameplay in the pack itself is still incredibly barebones and pets aren't nearly as fun as they were hyped up to be. They barely have any agency and they barely interact with things in any sort of interesting way. I wish I could at least send them to jobs :/

Dine out, Seasons, and University are the only pack I use consistently. Everything else I use once, then forget about it.

I had never seen the Get Famous trailers. They put all that work into the trailers for the "movies" your sims would act in, but then didn't give us cutscenes with our characters in them? For shame!

I think it would have been better to bundle the realm of magic and vampires in the same pack. It's still missing werewolves and other magic based stuff but it would be a step in the right direction. How about with the packs of like get together, get to work, the snowy escapes, and others like that to have a little bit of a skill check and not rely completely on RNG. It would be at least an interesting mechanic. Star Wars... Shouldn't have happened. I still miss thieves and the likes from the third game. There's a lot of missed opportunity in the base game mechanics.

The best expansion pack in The Sims 4 is Get Together, by far. It actually adds lots of small things that affect your gameplay and improve the overall game experience, and it comes with a gorgeous, big world. What's up with the worlds in this game? There aren't enough, and most of them are laughably small

One thing that always annoyed me is the Sims 4 EXPANSION packs never actually expand on everything, they just add new stuff. If i have cats & dogs plus get to work why can't i make my dog a police dog? Or literally just any other cross interactions between packs. Besides the millions of packs and features that were missing from past games at launch, how has Sims 4 as a base game been expanded at all?

I was new to Sims when a trailer like this got me to start playing it. ... Yeah, I played for about 4 hours, realized that grinding wasn't going to unlock anything even remotely close to the game, and that all I did was send people out to work and watch them forget how to pee after playing dress up. I was uh, sure glad I got it for a discount. Sim fandom manages to do Everything with it to make it look like the most engaging, amazing, wonderful game ever. The trailers do too! And then gameplay... nah. Everything is lies and fanmade mods to try and make the lies quieter.

If they worked on the game as much as they work on the ad maybe we’d actually have an open world

the only reason i want certain expansions like get to work/city living is for the mods that require them (and city living bc the world is cool) but other than that overpriced... like stuff packs should be 5 dollars tops bc I can get more cc than what they offer for free.

It's because of incomplete lacklustre packs that once I see the trailer I think oh that is sweet and so cool but then I remember... Sims 4. I am looking forward to Paralives coming out. Honestly, I will be counting down the days once an official release is put out so I can walk away from this part of The Sims franchise.

The sims 4 business one was very disappointing. I really liked running businesses in the sims 2 it became my favorite thing to do in the game. However in the sims 4, “customers” would just stand around in the business for hours and hours and talk and you would rarely make a sale. The sales interactions do not work well, and the running a business aspect is essentially completely unplayable.

If they showed what the pack actually looked like people wouldn’t buy it.

you know those mobile games that have amazing trailers that make you think the game is gonna be awesome and full of action and then it's just bejeweled with a different look or some fighting type game where the only thing you do is tap several times on the screen to attack, that's what the sims 4 trailers are on the level of

Let's be honest; if they didn't lie to us in the trailer would they be able to charge 40$ for their expansions? Absolutely not. Imagine a realistic trailer for Island Living, it would be just screenshots of the backround. (also, they're very aware that we're so starved for fulfilling content that we're willing to do the 80% of the lying to ourselves every. single. time.)

They're never gonna add any real weight to the sims 4 because the AI is so poor, because it was built on an engine designed as a Multiplayer game. But no one was complaining about the lack of Deep AI back in 2014, (we had other things to complain about). Now finally people are starting to see that every system in the sims 4 is the same. your sims have all these traits and icons and stuff that all result in giving your sim a moodlet. Moodlets have no weight because Sims are just little robots that go through the same limited animations which only are different for male and female. I'm sure they have great ideas for the sims 5, like story progression, a Cause/effect system, memory system that impacts behavior and relationship interactions, But the fact they've been doing only destination expansions shows that they can hardly alter The Sims 4's Core anymore cause it's becoming a mess.

I take all trailers with a spoonful of salt at this point.

These recent trailers are infantilizing and make me bored because I know they exaggerate things to an annoying degree, I’m tired of those “not real gameplay” shots like in the Island living or JTB trailer. I think the biggest let down for me was the initial release of the game. I was so excited for it because I expected it to be everything the sims 3 was but better. I remeber being so excited for the new emotion system (God if only I knew then what that would become, its such a meaningless system, especially considering every expansion comes out with a new way to instantly alter your sims emotions). When I realised the sims personalities were even more shallow than before and so was all of the gameplay I was just heart broken. The Sims 4 I think was my first real gaming let down (I was only like 14 when it came out) and it was a massive one. I think i tried to give it a chance for the first few years and hoped expansions would make it better but they never did, with the exception of get to work. That in my opinion is still the only pack that added any significant amount of somewhat versatile gameplay and it still wasnt much.

I've been disappointed with almost all the expansions and game packs because I can't help but compare them to Sims 3. I remember getting an expansion pack or game pack in Sims 3 and it keeping me entertained for weeks. Like the Sims 3 Generations and Late Night were soooo good and the Supernatural pack blows Realm of Magic out of the water. When I buy a Sims 4 pack I generally get bored after one playthrough but the dumb trailers sucked me in. The only ones I don't regret buying are City Living and Get Together.

I'm surprised some country in the EU or Australia hasn't sued EA over false advertising or something. Seems to always happen with these kind of bait-and-switch tactics, especially if there aren't refunds allowed on Origin.

i feel like sims 4 would be so much better if they had the cutscenes from the trailer (like acting gigs) into the game kinda like sims 2 cutscenes. it is so boring doing the same thing over and over again. every sim feels the same and theres no personality.

Just watch Sims 4 trailers in comparison to 3 or 2 to see the decline in quality and depth. Remember one of the first trailers for 3: where someone finally opens the door and your Sim is finally able to go outside into an open world. It was so amazing and as mind blowing after being forced to play in a closed world for years. Imagine my disappointment when I tried to visit my neighbor in 4 and having a load screen pop up. Sigh.

The biggest lie is that there's a game in the game. There isn't. And the fact that they keep teasing this, then letting us down is why I stopped playing months ago and likely won't anytime soon. I doubt I'll be buying anything more from the franchise for a very long time, if ever again. I've decided 6 years of letdowns is long enough. I've moved on.

Not being able to work at your restaurant was sooo triggering. It actually gets kind of boring after a time (like a lot of things in the Sims 4). If you compare it to Sims 2 Open for Business that pack is absolutely pathetic.

Island living is the biggest disappointment.

Ironically, I've played Get to Work more than any other pack. Maybe I just really really love playing the scientist career. I hate it when my sims have to go home, and I love visiting Sixam. The detective career was pretty fun, too, when it wasn't too buggy to play. Back then they'd actually give us lasting things to do for our money. These days you only know you robbed a vault if a notification bubble pops up, and you can only upcycle furniture with a magic machine that teleports sofas to your inventory. They skip so much and just leave a majority of actions to the rabbit hole of imagination. It's very boring.

They lie like rugs. The whole changing of things between early access videos being put out and the pack being released is just another way to manipulate the Sims community. They're using Game Changers, in my opinion.

I think what kills me the most on the inside is all the set dressing in the worlds. Sims 1-3 if you saw it you could interact with it. Each house was a playable house. Giving us 3 houses in a neighborhood and 30 fake ones is such a slap in the face.

I literally don't form any expectations from trailers anymore, as I know it's just pure shenanigans and fabrication 🙃 Like there is no point in even watching the trailers at this point for me because I sit there like , "yeah but i know this isn't what it is." Honestly pointless, I'll stick to watching actual gameplay by actual players when it's released.

When the character animations in the trailer are better than the ones we get in game, that are always the same and never updated (same romantic interactions + animations since launch) it puts an especially bitter taste in my mouth. It's like, we *could* have the Sims emote this powerfully.... but we won't ;) When Andrew's Pose Player is one of the Sims 4 most popular mods, you gotta wonder what went wrong at some point.

The Dine Out one hurt the most. I built this magnificent, detailed restaurant, and I can’t even run it because the people won’t sit and the servers won’t do what I tell them LOL

The last time I played Sims 4 was when I went to check out Realm of Magic's gameplay after having the pack for a few months and just using CAS and Build/Buy stuff from it. I watched the trailer to get an idea of the lore and the type of story I could tell using the pack and got a little excited to mess around with it because of the idea that the type of magic you learned would influence the magic realm. After building a college dorm type home for mages, I set out to explore the actual gameplay... only to find out that none of the lore in the trailer was present in the game. Even though I was very underwhelmed by the Strangetown dlc, I was at least entertained by telling my own story around the mostly uninteresting story that EA told. Realm of Magic felt like there should have been some overarching goal similar to that, even one as simple as the goal of cleaning up the islands in Island Living, but there wasn't anything there for me to work with. I went in with the high hopes of an underwhelming basic goal to achieve and found disappointment anyways.

I ONLY buy the expansion packs when they are discounted. Though, even at a discount, they charge too much for what they offer.

"If you're one of those people who seemingly apologizes for those types of things not being included, consider where Sims 4 would be if each expansion have actually expanded on the traits and aspiration offerings..." THIS! The reason why this game is a cesspool is because of these passive-aggressive simmers who think they know what gameplay is, all because a pack "fits their gameplay". Lol. Expansion Packs are not suppose to cater to one type of gameplay, that's what Stuff packs are for. Throughout the 6 years, people who complained about how lackluster The Sims 4 is has been shun and told not to buy if they don't like it. Well, for one, wouldn't it make more sense to complain when you own the packs rather than not owning a pack and complaining about it? This game would have really improved if those people in the forums (since Get to Work) weren't told to shut up and enjoy what we already have. Especially when those concerns were expressed properly. Because honestly? Most simmers should play other games, because the people who complain with this game is not even close to toxic compared to the other games. In one of the games I play you are wished you and your family gets cancer the moment you say "hi". Also if it weren't for those people who complained, I doubt we would even have Sentiments by now. So you're welcome.

When Sims 2 released packs I knew they'd be great and eagerly bought them. I didn't need trailers to convince me. It took me a while to come round to Sims 3, but I'm glad I eventually did. I've given up on Sims 4 and don't even bother watching the trailers. They're all fur coat and no knickers, and I regret the money I have spent on them

Its like the sims team used CC and mods to make the trailers.

It's like they're trying to show the imagination a lot of simmers bring and mixing it with the actual gameplay. And it looks amazing, but not all simmers have the same imagination... they could do better

I forgot about alot of this I have not bought the last 2 items I just remember being really disappointed in pets all they do is run away and bark at the toilet or meow and there's no water bowl and you can't control them

Sims 4 is full of missed opportunities. They need to add more traits, more aspirations and more whims. I just don't understand why those things wouldn't be included at the very least in every expansion pack. Not just the "tutorial" aspirations. I'm a very loyal person, most times to a fault. I've been playing this game for almost 21 years in different versions. My 18 year old son keeps saying mom just find a new game, there's so many out there. I can't though because the Sims is "my" game, it's what I've always played. I don't know when the time will come that I finally give it up. I'm hoping Sims 5 or paralives will be everything I've been waiting for 🤞. Also, we need the lore back because not everyone has an amazing imagination and if you're one of those people trying to think up new ideas would be very hard. We need the game to do it's part too. Have been stung so many times. I hate a new wee world like the magic one in space looking like you can build your own thing there. And find out it's all just smokes and freaking mirrors. Now I wait and watch reviews.

What's crashing me lately, is literally the crashes that the recent patch was supposed to "fix". I have been able to play without freezing and crashing until this new pack came out. I've had to wait over 5min for it to come out from it's frozen state and decided to just save and close as it. It froze while saving too. The freezing is a massive problem making playing and even building, not doable anymore. And I just got back into playing after being super busy the past couple months.

I miss the old sims 2 ones-
