Probably true. For every episode there are like 10 or less sketches and usually only half to a third are good and occasionally one is truly great. But then some episodes are total duds and some seasons have barely any good sketches. Though some periods do have a few great sketches several weeks in a row to be fair. It is a decent show to watch regularly but watching highlights from the past is the better way to see the cream that floats to the top. That and nostalgia.

People with false nostalgia about the show say that. Sure, the edginess and novelty of the format can't be reclaimed, but the hit-or-miss rate of the skits is no worse now than "back in the day." In fact, I'd say it was better in terms of skits that have become iconic (the Internet helps, of course). And the cast of the last several years has been stellar -- witness the post-SNL success of those who have moved on.

I've been watching on and off since 1978. Sometimes years would go by without even a glance. I think now RU-vid helps a lot by allowing me to filter sketches, but also the writing has been excellent the past few years. The filmed pieces are consistently excellent, as well.

I absolutely loved this. It is so bizarre how media outlets try to declare somebody of some group the first at something when they are so blatantly wrong and even a tiny bit of research would prove it. The Starcraft II bit was perfect and the final photo killed me!
