A collaboration between documentary filmmaker Neil Halloran and Nobel Peace Prize - Research and Information, this short data-driven film simulates a nuclear blast in a major city in order to tally the estimated deaths that would result. Using data from leading researchers and highlighting present day technology developments, the film illustrates the very real danger nuclear weapons still pose to humanity and life on Earth.

Ryan Chastain-Maxey yep. Vaporization happens so fast you don’t even know when it happens. The sensory impulses can’t get to the brain fast enough before you’re vapor. You want to see something even more frightening? Look up the Soviet/Russian cobalt doomsday device, that’s believed to be still there to this day, as an insurance policy against them being nuked in a sub launched, first strike. Some believe it isn’t real, just a staged intelligence leak to scare the US, or is it?

I'm in a major city and probably within the 2 kilometer radius of the center and I think in such a scenario I'd really not want to be in the 2% of survivers during impact (small chance is still a chance). Depending on how much time I'd have until impact (if whatever bomb that would've been used was noticed from a distance) I'd either drive to ground 0 to be instantly vaporized or, if I have more time, drive as faar away as possible. I really hope something like this never happens

I saw those scuds come close to the city of Riyadh, and I still vividly remember how much time they ‘stood’ in the horizon like a bright, slow moving spark, while the emergency sirens rang into our heads. When I think about it now, there seemed to be plenty of time to react. Now if its hypersonic - you see it, then you don’t.

If you in the zone of 20 psi shock-wave (for 800kt surface detonation this would be the radius of 2 km), which levels concrete buildings, yeah even going to a basement or underground shelter gives only slight chances of survival. However, for the zone of 5 psi shock-wave (2 - 4.25 km), this is really like dealing with a powerful tornado. Crawling under a desk or bed even not the first choice, is not entirely that stupid, especially considering chances are that's all there might be time for. It won't protect you from the destructive blast, if you are lucky it might offer some hope for collapse though. In any case for sure, it is better than nothing. There is an online tool allowing calculating zones for different strength warheads: nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/ By the way,... 1:24 quote: “hundreds of times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima”. I remember in old days 20kts was quoted as the yield of both Nagasaki and Hiroshima detonations. Today some sources quote 18kts, while some 15 kt for Hiroshima and 21kts for Nagasaki. No matter which number we stick with, 800 kt blast is 40-53 times more powerful than Hiroshima bombing. Not “hundreds of times”.

I wish someone would make a video like this with a 20 megaton device because they do exist and will be used in WW3, include the EMP. The Tsar Bomba was 57 megatons. A little known fact about hydrogen bombs is that there is no upper limit to how powerful they can be, like there is with the usual atomic bombs. You just have to keep adding more layers. They could easily make 50 megaton bombs and use them on all of our major cities.
@picklepic3091
@picklepic3091 День назад
They wouldn’t use 20 megaton bombs on cities or anything they’re not trying to kill as many people as possible. They’re just trying to limit infrastructure and also a 20 megaton bomb is too big to fit on the end of a missile and isn’t their main prerogative the only way I would see them using a weapon that large is the targeting positions of power or high-level military bunkers but besides if they’re targeting cities, they’re targeting hospitals positions of power refineries and factories if a nuclear war breaks out, they’re trying to limit the blowback even though I don’t see what the point is they’re trying to limit blow back towards them so the biggest bombs will be used on missile silos submarines positions of power and anything that you can use against them
@picklepic3091
@picklepic3091 День назад
And also it’s not about how big the bomb is is about how you deliver it yeah you can make it 100 megaton bomb but that things gonna be way too heavy to deliver by missile so the only way bomber and no bomber specially with modern technology is going to make it anywhere near any major city

If you are in the city that was struck, there are only two things that could happen to you: you die instantly or you envy those who died instantly.

@@murkotron I do read more. Infact I actually used to read a lot and was quite fast at it too(I would read a thick book in a day) however that doesn't mean I can memorise all the words I just remember the basic story of it. Take Darren Shan's horror novel, I know the story but don't remember any sentences, not one.

@@murkotron FYI the fact that a sentence has been said or written before doesn't mean somebody else can't come up with it or something similar on their own. if you actually follow that logic tho you must have a really hard time coming up with comments on the internet...
