You can look up Cramer's Rule - it is one of the most direct ways to solve simultaneous equations In fact, it can also be extended to linear systems with 3 or more unknowns as well, so it is quite powerful

thank you so much for this video! You have really helped me to achieve more than you will ever know. These videos are my Go-To for prep work for my studies in mathematics. I have always struggled with maths but thanks to your videos, I am able to complete higher education university courses that I normally would struggle so deeply with. thank you so so much for making me finally be able to understand maths even if it is at 31 lol.

i never really liked this^^method, but the method i use works well, i find it's simple and it's easiest for me, also when written out properly(which is impossible in a YT comment) it's fairly easy to follow. The steps are #1 make one of the variables the same in both equations then forget that variable exists. #2 find the difference(subtract) between the remaining numbers #3 divide the the two numbers as shown below to solve for the existing variable. #4 substitute and solve for the remaining var. just an alternative method i prefer using. EX1: #1: 2a + 3b = 2, #2: 4a - b = -24, multiply #1 by 2, so #1: 4a + 6b = 4 and #2: 4a - b = -24, then find the difference between the two equations, so (-24-4) x -1)=28 then (6b minus -b) or 6b+1b=7b, then divide 28 by 7 and b=4, then 2a+12=2, minus 12 from both sides so 2a = -10 divide by 2, and a = -5, EX2: #1: a - 2b = -14, #2: 5a + 3b = 14, #1 times 5 so #1: 5a - 10b = -70(find the difference), -70 - 14 = -84, 10b - 3b = 7b, (then divide) -84/7 = -12, so b = -12, (substitute value for b then solve), a=10.

Dear Tecmath thank you very much for your time on RU-vid. You are among the very handful of great teachers on RU-vid who is able to explain everything via simplication. You said around 6:46 that you did a lesson on being able to calculate large numbers i.e. 98-252 could you let me have the RU-vid address because I'm relearning maths again and want to be in a position to help my son who is 9 now. I am able to help him at the moment but want to be competent when he gets to this age. However, he is struggling a little with mental maths in adding up and taking away large awkward numbers for eg 794-86. A technique I use is with the 794 discard for a moment to a corner the 94 part of 794 which leaves 700. Then use the 700 and subtract the 86 but one has to visualise how far away 86 is from 100 which is 14 which gives 614 and bring back the 94 to add onto 614. Now swap the 14 of 614 with the 94 which gives 694 and then add the 14 giving 694 + 10 is 704 plus the 4 = 708. This might be complicated for a 9 year old to mentally visualise and he almost has it but is not quite. He can do it on paper though most of the times so we still have to practice this part too. Any help much appreciated. Thank you so much.

it works, you have to reorder the terms and solve for Y first 3y+2x=12 then 4y-3x=1 then y= 36-2 over 8+9 = 34 over 17 gives you y=2. you add the 8+9 because you use the opposite sign of what was in the equation. Make sense?

I kinda did it a different way for eg 3x + 2y = 12 5x + 3y = 19 We multiply the first one by 5 (because of its 5x) and the second one bye 3 (because its 3 x) now we have the equation like this 15x + 10y = 60 15x + 9y = 57 now we subtract 15x - 15x = 0, 10y - 9y = y, 60 - 57 = 3 now we have the equation like this y = 3 and if y = 3 we look at the first one 3x + 2y = 12 and change it to 3x + 6 = 12 and with simple algebra we know x = 2 & y = 3 and if you multiply it form the start its is correct and have a nice day

You are the best in short cuts. I thought making either x or y the same would be easy. But I had to rewrite my method after watching your video. But still (2x+2y)=18 can be written as (14x + 14 y) = 126. So -14x - 14y = -126. Then -14x + 3x = -126 +49 . -11x = -77 x = 7. Isn’t this faster?
