I'm dead, he said you can emulate how sticky the gears on your real car are. I definitely don't want the same feel my VAG gearbox has going into 1st and 2nd, trust me on that haha.
Really interesting review mate!👍 If it haven't changed with high demand, I could tell Dave and Billy what shape I wanted for my knob. And I also have controller issues with RBR and Forza games, but that goes for most of my gear, not only the BDH. I play most sims and games on the market, and those two games are the only one I have issues with when it comes to the BDH.
Thank you much for sharing! I didn't know there were different knob options. I hope I was clear in the video that BDH being a custom-type operation, it's easily doable to make small changes like threading and basic knob shaped. On videos I've seen, the teardrop knob didn't look as small as it actually is in real life. Part of me wants to review the product as it would normally come from BDH but in retrospect, I would definitely want an M12 1.25 threaded shift rod so I could pop on any of my knobs from my real cars. It's something I didn't even think to ask but if someone forgets to ask (cough me) it's nice to know what the standard setup feels like. Luckily I'm not into Forza games, and I kind of feel like the type of person that is willing to spend this much on a single piece of gear won't be looking for the type of experience Forza offers, although I have heard it's a lot of fun and it would be nice to have it work flawlessly with all games. Overall, as we both know, it's an amazing shifter and is definitely worth the money for those that prioritize feel over anything else. :)
@@DouglasThompson Could be that I picked to get a aluminum knob, that they could custom make it for me? Yeah Forza games can be fun, but a bit on the arcady side for my liking, mostly bought them to play with my kids.
Interesting comparison. I had a Thrustmaster and two Fanatecs before I got my ProSim. I’d like to try some other shifters like the BDH but I’m so pleased with the ProSim I don’t wanna make the effort or wait months and months for a BDH. What’s the weight limit for that motion rig? Can you really notice a difference in performance if you put the cover on BDH?
This is a question I get asked often with my real cars. I took out every single thing that wasn't necessary to the basic function of my WRX's. You can't look at any one piece as an individual item, think about everything as a whole and you begin to realize it's the mentality of saving weight that saves you weight rather than just taking things off here and there. I removed hundreds of pounds off my bolt ons only 04 WRX and I smoke STI's because of the power to weight ratio. My 06 wrx is even more aggressively gutted and has the increased engine performance to boot. ;) Weight is extremely important but to answer your question point blank...no I can't feel that difference but it seemed unnecessary for my personal use. ;)
Just received my bdh, love it, but having the same 2nd to 3rd issues you had. I’m going to try and adjust mine as you indicate here. Any tips on the best approach to trimming that nub - is it removable or do you have to do it in place?
You can use a small wrench on the flats near the base of each nub. Just sand or file a tiny bit at a time until it's perfect. Mine no longer does that at all.
Leo Bodnar has suggested to do some settings in DI View but I haven't a clue what he means. I'll be honest, DI view is not a very user friendly tool. Lol I'll see if I can find that message.
Every sim I can think of has mapable H-pattern. Only one I can think of that wouldn't is maybe assetto corsa competits or other single discipline games like f1.
@@DouglasThompson I said f-it and just bought the bdh. Must honestly say that its amazing. I've never had so much fun playing rally games before. The look and feel is just second to none! Are you still using the BDH?
They had said they were going to send me a unit to review but I don't think it's on the table anymore for whatever reason. I will say the bash shifter is amazing. I bought one recently and it blew me away.
@@DouglasThompson thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely use your feedback as to what I should buy as you have tried them all. I hope the wait-list doesn't take too long. I'm in no rush but would like to have something soon. I have the rest of my rig sitting in boxes.
@@DouglasThompson Well it is an H pattern shifter review. How could I not watch that till the end :) Hopefully I will get a beta test of an DIY shifter based on the ProSim mechanism, and if it sees the light of day as a 2 or 3 off product it was said that it will be some 350€ so I will most likely get one if I like the beta test and don't find any major weaknesses. At the moment still using G29 shifter that I converted to USB.
Doug, thanks again for all your input bro. I ordered a simvertex but I just read somewhere the switches they use are bad? Any thoughts on that? Or if you have any negative thoughts that would not make it a good buy please let me know.
They are probably referring to the fact that all mechanical switches have the potential to fail. As in they are not using hall effect sensor technology.
@@DouglasThompson Fair enough but then the question is are there any shifters that use hall effect sensors? Also, these switches they're using, are they the same as the ones used in the fanatec sq 1.5? Better than the fanatec or about the same?
Really good comparison video. I'm happy with my current H, the Fanatec one. Even though I think the Simvertex would be a really nice upgrade, I think I stay put for now. I do not think I would prioritize funds for the BDH as of now. It looks amazing though! And I ofcourse saw R-VR's video when he got his also. Good times. Good racing gear :-)
Yes, the Fanatec one really is the best for that price range and the furthest I can recommend getting, price-wise for a more typical user that isn't completely insane like me...lol Just wait till BDH releases the "DT22" ;)
BDH is working on a budget friendly Fanatec competitor they say will blow away the Fanatec shifter for a similar price. They asked what they should name it and I figured since it's a smaller unit and their current name for the cylindrical shifter is the "Bazooka", I suggested they name the new smaller cheaper unit the 22, since .22 caliber ammunition is typically cheaper and smaller than most ammunition. So they said they would call it the "DT22" as in "Douglas Thompson 22" ;)
I have the BDH you tried and now the new HSQ which has Hal sensors now. I haven’t made my mind up yet which H shift I like best there very similar but new feels more accurate to me and of course you have the option of sequential
Ya, they are both really great, also I just saw that the Simvertex might have gone up in price temporarily. I reached out to Simvertex to see what the reason for this is, and if it's permanent.
No I don't have a Prosim. The only reason I include it in the conversation is because the bdh is also modeled after a quaife mechanism and my friend that owned a Prosim H-pattern actually prefers his bdh over the ProSim, I think he actually sold his ProSim recently...
@@DouglasThompson watched it my man . Wanted to ask , have you ever tried a newt ssh shifter and if so how does it compare to the ali one? i currently have the ali one and im happy with it tbh but just curious.
I have yet to try the newt but I have heard good things. I don't think it could be all that much better for the price point. I'd say until you feel the urge to drop at least 300+ you won't get a sizable performance gain.
Can anyone doing a sim equipment review make it so that you can' actually hear what you're trying to say? Don't need the engine noise to drown out the info. That aside, absolutely excellent review.
I've been using the bdh nearly exclusively. I used the simvertex for about a few days or so and switched back to the bdh but can still heavily recommend either of them.
@@DouglasThompson I'm watching your video from 2 years ago when you received it lol any idea why the price fluctuates a lot even on Ali Express? Can I trust any source? I found one for cad850 plus free shipping which is way lower than the original store link prices... Getting me so skeptical man lol
@thinkrtank shipping prices have been pretty wild from what I know...I'm really hoping someone from another country doesn't win my pedal giveaway... lol
You are using the BDH shifter in the wrong configuration. It is designed to be used with the tubing facing backwards. That’s why you were having those issues.
If I can remember when I get home I'll measure for you but I have cut the rod so it is no longer standard, if that affects what info you are trying to gather.
@@DouglasThompson yes I've tried the original simvertex and it's way too long. I prefer a slightly shorter throw but not as short as the bdh. I remember your video show bdh is 2.5cm. then u measured the simvertex. Watched a few but can't seem to find the part. Haha Would you also help measure the side distance, gear 1 and gear 3 or gear 3 to gear 5. That will be helpful
@@thinkrtank991 I would imagine they would have no problems supporting the product for that long but I don't speak officially for them. I know if I needed a part right now, they would probably just send it to me. Are you good at building/fixing things typically?
@@DouglasThompson yeah I'm fairly technical. I just like to go for products with long warranty periods cause it generally says a lot about the product. I'm in this hobby for the long haul and I'd like my money to go as far as I can lol Sim coaches offers lifetime warranty for example and that's crazy and worth the investment.
@@DouglasThompson I don’t know why I wrote that !?! I’m 45yrs old for feck sake !! I just didn’t want to put 1st again !!! Great comparison review mate, i love the engineering of these items, especially the BDH, it’s a piece of art, put I can’t justify them price tags for what I use a H pattern shifter, I’ll stick with my fanatec v1.5 , it’s low on immersion but a pretty solid shifter !!! If my numbers ever come up then who knows ??? 👍
