Deadly Sins Last Video on Zodiac in FFXIV: • The Zodiac, the Tarot,... Twitch: / ailuromage Twitter: / ailuromage Music : Recollection by Tokyo Music Walker Stream & Download : fanlink.tv/vuFe
I am Catholic, so I related a lot of Shadowbringers to my faith, but I never sat down and categorized it so neatly. I LOVE this video!! I even learned something about real life sin eaters! This was fantastic and thank you for taking the time to put it together and reference Scripture! ♥♥♥♥
I would have added the in-game lore behind why they are called sin eaters. To quote from Encyclopedia Eorzea Volume 3: As no religion, not even that of the Church of the First Light, seemed able to provide a satisfactory explanation as to why these Light-corrupted creatures emerged, or why they attacked on sight, the people latched onto the belief that such apocalyptic horrors must exist solely to devour their mortal transgressions. To some, the "sin eaters" were salvation and damnation both
"So Sin Eaters in real life seem pretty different from Sin Eaters in FFXIV" I dunno, that ritualistic eating of bread makes me think an awful lot about meol...
This makes a lot of sense, the names of the sin eaters were really intriguing to me (I just finished ShB and entered Endwalker for the first time) and the names of the sin eaters threw me off. This was helpful :D
Sin eating was always interesting, and it's definitely not a Christian thing. It probably has older roots. The wages of sin is death. Its the entire reason Christ did what he did. But its fine. Many cultures have more than 1 event to handle sin and death. FF14 is the second mmo that Ive played that has so much juicy religious stuff. Its great. Also, great video.
Seems like both. But I did use Sentience because Sin eaters really seem completely gone. To me at least, they just seek aether, fully under control of the Light wardens like moths to a flame. I don't think they even feel, just a force that keeps going unless it's killed.
@@Ailuromage Yeah true. (Tho that does depend on one's definition of sentience but let's not get into that coz it would be a long philosophical conversation.😄)
Now I'm wondering how these names came to be in universe. The WoLs wouldn't be considered virtuous by the general population by the time they became Sin Eaters, so I'm inclined to believe Vauthrey may be responsible for their names. The rest may also be his doing, or may come from older traditions of worship of light. I'm just speculating here, though. Is there anything in the game that gives a clearer answer?
I'm certain it is a representation of how insanely powerful they were after becoming sin eaters. It would make sense they would be named Virtues which are the highest form of "good" so to speak against the darkness, as all darkness is considered sin by Vauthry
I learned something today. When I asked god for help, and none arrived, so I decided to “fuck it, I’ll do it myself” without his help. I was actually committing the original greatest sin. Well, good thing God isn’t real. Lol
One thing about the Sin Eaters is a very little detail about a specific one: Tesleen The Forgiven Unlike every other Sin Eater that isn't a Lightwarden, she doesn't have a sin to be forgiven, she was just "forgiven". I think it's because, unlike other people who got turned into Sin Eaters, she didn't had any sins as she did her best at helping people that were suffering and slowly becoming Sin Eaters themselves.
She's one of the extreme few you see without the prefix of forgiven and also not being a lightwarden. Perhaps she didn't commit any Vices but she was still sinful for not being of Light in Vauthry's eyes.
Every person has some sort sin - even Tesleen. We didnt know her well or long enough to know any sins or flaws. They didnt give her any specific sin because they wanted made sure we know who that boss in the dungeon is.
First! I've loved your videos so far - I went on a bit of a deep dive after discovering you through your XIV content and started watching your other videos on Christianity. Really interesting stuff! Can't wait to see more from you in the future.
Am I completely misremembering an enemy type called "Forgiven Heroism?". it's possible i misread something (like possibly Hedonism) but i just can't shake the memory of it. But I can't for the life of me recall where I would have seen this enemy if it even existed. It may have been part of the whole Elidibus portion of Post-ShB and I completely misplaced the context
I don't remember one called Heroism or Hedonism. It was brought to my attention that I missed Forgiven Indecency though, which is easily the Vice of Lust. 🐱
@@Ailuromage it wasnt listed on a wiki page of sin eaters, so it's completely possible that it isn't an actual enemy name. But I know I've seen something that at least planted the thought enough times. Dont think i could find it without a full replay of ShB though Neglected to say but really liked this video tho! It is cool to see an examination of all the lesser sin eaters
Wow these videos are awesome. I'm not a believer, but I always find interesting how faiths and mythos influence the entertainment we consume. While playing ShB I kinda understood that the names of the sin eaters were sins that they beared but didn't pay too much attention to the meaning and intent behind the naming, so thanks for this video!
What you may want to add to this discussion is the names of the Lightwardens, besides Innocence. As the greatest (even considered greater than the Virtues,) Sin Eaters, you may wish to add them to this discussion, since they are another nod to Christian theology.
@@acgearsandarms1343 Hm. I tried to send a reply, but it didn't take, so round two! Titania killed a Lightwarden, and then became one herself, so she wouldn't take on its name. But, she could be Agape (sacrificial love) or the Latin term which tends to be added into the 8 great "loves" Ludus, or playful love. A type of non-commital love that is just whimsical and fleeting, that includes things like flirting, seduction, and one night stands.
didnt expect new videos to come out this quickly, the channel is very interesting with this style of videos, also i love that 2:41 sadness was a cardinal sin lol
Thank you! It's a lot of work to be honest but I'm very glad people are enjoying them. And yes, Sadness was considered the source of things like an unstable mind or a weakened mind that would more easily fall for temptation.
I’ve been sharing your videos with my other lore enthusiast friends; your work is such a treat and I got so excited seeing you posted this on your timeline!! Especially since I’ve been helping a friend get through Shadowbringers and soon to relive the story on an alt. Keep up the amazing work!! 🫳🐈⬛💕 (edit: I love phone typos fhuidklfdj)
