@@larrymcjones did you read that as "black" at first too? haha I had to do a double take. He might not be black but technically he IS a Jewish Mexican.
I have to say the same. It’s possible to disagree or dislike to varying levels of severity something that someone said or did and still like them overall. Or at least appreciate their craft. Dude is still hilarious. It’s been a while since I heard his stand up so I had almost forgotten how funny he is.
@@JKM395 For sure, I agree. To be clear, if he had done something more egregious I almost certainly wouldn’t feel the same way. But we have the ability to make those judgments, agree that there are levels to fuck ups, and go on from there. Like you said, nuance is a thing.
@@TerryTerius Completely. Was what he did weird? Yes. Should have done it? No. He also didn't break any laws and he did ask first I suppose. If he had done half the stuff we hear out of Hollyweird, I'd have zero time for him.
@@ObiWanGinobiliTopFan He lied and said it wasn't true. Then, it became an article in the New York Times and he did damage control by putting out a non-apologetic apology. He's changed his story. The three women who said they didn't agree to it never changed theirs. You made this comment..."When yes means no, that means this society as a whole has really, really gone insane." First, that's not what happened. Second, what about the saying "no means yes"? Don't you think that's insane? Basically, saying ignore women when they say no and just keep doing whatever you're doing. Do you know how long that has been said about women? For many decades! "How many of you guys, in your own experience with women, have learned that “no” means “yes” if you know how to spot it?" -Rush Limbaugh "5 Reasons "No" Might Mean "Yes" -The name of an article written by a man for a magazine in 2009. “If a lady says no, she means maybe.” ~Warren Buffet “if a woman goes into a room alone with a man at a party, it is her fault if she is raped.” -12% of respondents from a survey in Australia believe this to be true. One in six people believe that “women often say ‘no’ when they mean ‘yes’.” -According to that same study. Nearly 40 percent of the Australian respondents agreed that “a lot of times women who say they were raped led the man on and later had regrets,”. THAT is the truly insane thing. It's time to put away all of those dangerous myths about women and listen to what they are saying...especially when it comes to sex.
@@nanny7397 I agree- When women say no, people should listen to them and take "no" as NO. P.S. My comment about "when yes means no" was because I thought what Louis did was 100% consensual. I thought that's what I heard about it, but I guess I was wrong.
@@ObiWanGinobiliTopFan I think a lot of people are basing their opinions on what they heard. I have to admit I did that as well. I didn't read his statement until after I watched this video. I had assumed when people said he apologized, he told the truth about what happened. That's why I watched the video. Louis has always been one of my favorites and I wanted to see his new material. I was really disappointed. Oh well.
@@Murdant Interesting. I've seen a million shows at Zanies. Love the intimate setting of a comedy club. Saw DL Hughley and I was about the only white guy in there. Saw Andrew Dice Clay and I was about the only one not chanting along with the nursery rhymes :)
thanks for doing Louis CK! I've never seen his new stuff so was great to watch this along with your reaction :). I would love to see more of his new stuff but also from his old stuff: 'kids are stupid', and 'Indians, White People, and Gods Green Earth' are two of my favourites that I'd love to see you react to! (and 'hates deer' is also brilliant). thanks!
I Freaking Love Louis CK. I've been on fishing trips, didn't catch anything BUT Louis kept me and the other anglers laughing out loud listening on my Bluetooth speaker. I've watched them all.
Its easier for people like louis ck to not be cancelled because he's said and done so many dark jokes throughout his career. If he was a family comic and he did like PG material he would for sure be done but the fact he jokes about the worst things usually makes those people safe when it comes to being cancelled if they just own it
Most people don’t actually get cancelled. People complain about “cancel culture” but what actually happens is there’s a little backlash for a few weeks and then everyone forgets about it. This applies to people who commit crimes too. Chris Brown still has his career.
@The_Homie_Dario They weren't in public, it was always in private and consensual. His issue was sexual impropriety, because there were power dynamics at play which could have influenced his partners' consent.
@The_Homie_Dario i call bullshit, care to point out the source? Edit: just looked it up and he asked before doing it every time, 1 woman said No and he didnt do it, 1 woman said yes and he did, one was over the phone where he didnt ask, and 2 laughed it off and didnt leave when he did it. the only one that can even be considered not consensual is over the phone, and even then how hard is it to hang up?
There are two kinds of entertainers/performers/artists. Those who give in to public pressure and kneel before the social royalty, begging for forgiveness And those who speak truth to power, gain respect from the public, and add a brand new demographic of fans.
@@nanny7397 It wasn't. He never got sued. The money lost was TV show contracts, HBO Specials, endorsement deals, movie/writing/future development contracts. That's where he lost money. If he were in legal proceedings, settled or unsettled, he wouldn't be allowed to discuss anything.
@@OGS2099 I never said the women sued him. He lost money because businesses didn't want to continue working with someone who exposes himself to women. There are consequences when a person behaves that way and those were his. Considering how likable he has always been I don't think it mattered what the women said or did. I think we all know what would have happened if they had sued. Many people would have said they're lying and just want his money. They didn't sue and many people still refuse to believe them when they say they didn't give consent. Three of the women said they didn't. One of the women said she wanted to go to the police but she didn't think it was a crime. She said she felt she had to do something so she started talking about it. Then, Louis's manager called her manager to tell her to stop talking about it. I think if someone who worked in an office did this people would say what a sleazy pr^ck. He should get fired, arrested, or both. Celebrity and talent shouldn't factor into this situation. Louis said he knows the people who admired him didn't want to hear about it. He took advantage of that. He's still benefitting from that. There were no "public disclosures" from him. Like most of these cases, people in his community were aware of this. He started getting questions about it and he refused to address it saying they're "just rumors". Then, it became an article in The New York Times. That's when he and his people had to do something. That was about damage control. He doesn't get credit for that. The women who came forward are really brave considering how powerful he is in that industry. They wouldn't have done that if they hadn't felt violated in some way. This had an effect on their careers. They avoided anything he, or his manager, may have been attached to. Women who were unaffected by some sexual incident don't do things like that. It's not only him who suffered consequences because of his actions.
May look a bit older, but: tell you what, he looks well. Looks thinner, healthier.......drawing no conclusions, but he looks better than he has in a long time I reckon. Worked on himself over the proverbial break.
I love Luis CK... Hate that woman who legit consented to him doing something then cried about it afterwards. Horrible and she should be fined for whatever he lost.
@IrishBiteGirl You're being naive if you believe they consented just because Louis, the person accused, said so. Have you read about what happened from legit sources? Legit meaning not the person accused or their friends, etc.
@@tylerbuckner3750 He's okay. Free speech is for everyone, even people who disagree with you. When you try to silence people who don't agree with you by crying "cancel culture" you're trying to cancel THEM. Do you see the hypocrisy? The same freedom you enjoy b^tching about things you don't like is for everyone. Not just you.
@@tylerbuckner3750 "Who's trying to silence anyone?" Exactly! Not the people you're talking about when you mention "cancel culture". Those are just people with a different opinion than you, that's it. No more, no less. They didn't cause Louis to lose any jobs. The companies he was attached to made a business decision based on the facts. I have to say that your original post is a little disturbing. It sounds as if you're saying if one sexual harasser gets off the hook they all should.
Louis CK and the fact that he asked before he did what he did was the first ever "wait a minute" moment in the #metoo movement. Amber Heard was the nail in the coffin of that movement. Which is sad, we don't need a hashtag to not be a piece of shit but that just shows you what happens when any message is absolute. I feel so sorry for Louis, even though this came to light years after the concept of "kink shaming" he is shamed for his kink. I'm a fan of his forever.
Louis felt safe with other comics. Never feel safe with struggling female comics - they will never get a career and will sell you out for 2 sec of prime time.
@Laslo Brorsonius It's a shame struggling female comics couldn't feel safe with Louis. It's a shame he took advantage of the power dynamics in the relationships he had with women. Wonder why he never "asked" female comics on his level to watch him j^ck off? Oh right, he wouldn't have been able to get off on that. He needed that predatory feel to it to get aroused.
@@picklejuice4638 Louis CKs own words... "when you have power over another person, asking them to look at your dick isn’t a question. It’s a predicament for them." - Louis CK He chose women who had less power than he did. That's what I said...he chose women who weren't on his level in the business. "I also took advantage of the fact that I was widely admired in my and their community, which disabled them from sharing their story and brought hardship to them when they tried because people who look up to me didn’t want to hear it." - Louis CK There's nothing wrong with a man enjoying a woman watching him masturbate, to each his own. It's only a problem when it becomes predatory. Tell me, are these the words of a man who had a consensual sexual encounter?... "There is nothing about this that I forgive myself for. And I have to reconcile it with who I am. Which is nothing compared to the task I left them with." You know the answer. One more thing. I'm not concerned about the women he's had consensual sex with, that's not the problem. The problem is that he preyed on women who weren't interested.
I love Louie. I think he is great. I buy everything he releases. However, he does whitewash his offense a bit, by not mentioning that this was in the workplace and the women were his subordinates. It would have been way more impressive if he *actually* copped to what the real offense was. No one gets in trouble asking a woman if you can jerk-off in front of them. He got in trouble because it was in the workplace.
@mk bietz I've always loved and admired Louis and was so disappointed that he had done this. In the beginning, I thought he asked the women and they were cool with it. Then, I looked into it and it seems that he's the only one saying they all agreed to it. Three of the women said they didn't and I believe them. Especially considering Louis dismissed the stories as lies before it was in the Times. I think he got off on the power trip and their discomfort. That's the real creepy part of this in my opinion because that's predatory behavior.
