So strange yet so sublime. Hearing “Early One Morning” was surreal, especially, as when I was a very little kid - back in the mid-1960s, its melody was the theme song for a kids’ show on TV called The Friendly Giant - I hadn’t heard that tune in well over 50 years and never knew its name, so hearing this was a very healing experience. Thank you so much, Brian.
Reminds me when i was a young girl learning to sing from my music teacher and how important the words are when you learn to sing and the eloquence of music; honored to perform before an audience for the song...my first song was Little Town of Bethlehem..five years old..and from there my father introduced me to Opera...thank God for music...I love music by Brian Eno and Steven Halpren and many other musician and my background in Visual Communications created a structure for implementing music through relaxation; presenting my idea to a Hospital in Chicago and music and healing of the human being is amazing.
Im not sure what to say. Owning most of his music on tape, CD, DVD, Record. Tons of music hes made. But never thought i would being hearing this like i was in church, and Copenhagen even.
Brian Eno, imagineer supreme, invents "white people singing gospel and other selected songs kind of like church singing" and rumor has it that he has invented a new collective gathering event - he calls it "the drum circle that includes women". Brilliant! Seriously I have loved this guy since Bush of Ghosts was recorded.
The Elvis song he references as originally as "German" is absolutely not derived from anything teutonic. It's Elvis, and the melody is based on a French song Music by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini (1741-1816) Lyrics by Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian (1755-1794) "Plaisir d'amour". And the fact that he calls something a "Pop American crap song" then sings all music that has major American relevance including African American history - quite lame, Brian Eno - hmmmmm. You silly maiden - not so fresh as the rose garden are you? Keep singing about those maids singing in the valley.
Totally inappropriate. A rich white atheist from England appropriating American black spirituals. Haha, ok I really don't care about that PC baloney, Eno just isn't good at them. It's like an old 8 bit computer playing from a hymnal, but without the charm or soul that a computer would bring.
Do me a favor and don't be a hypocrite. Only utilize music, art, and food that was created by people in your race and in your country. If you aren't Mexican, don't have tacos. If you aren't Italian, don't look at the Mona Lisa. Hell, if you aren't Polish don't go 5 feet from a Pierogie. Or that's "Cultural appropriation."
Despite having produced some great work over the years, Eno all too often turns out to be dull and boring, failing to quite deliver. This singsong thing is awful to my ears.
my acc name is marcus norman-taylor look up anthea norman-taylor. she is my aunt and she married brian i will even comment on this with my real name account
Anthea also his manager if I recall correctly :) Don't worry about people sharing sometimes abrupt opinions like this on the internet, your uncle isn't boring he has many sides to his personality, but people will not hesitate to put opinions forward on the internet and can be rude because it's impersonal - I assure your uncle isn't bothered after many years in the public eye! BTW is jazz musician Jonathan Eno related? He's someone my company worked with, didn't like to ask, but curious. Listen to your uncle, he's intelligent and creative you can learn a lot frm him
WTF is this? Eno singing about cotton fields ?????? How on earth did he get involved with this? This is just awful! 3:24 - 3:30 is the best bit, but it is all so otherworldly and despite my recognition of his interest in gospel and spirituals in his compositions....this is just off the frickin wall!
You know, I love Brian Eno, but this was about the last thing that I thought I would ever come across while jumping around from one Eno video to the next. I think the word, "Bizarre" is a justifiable adjective. No way would I have sat through this demonstration had it been anyone else...And this is the guy who produced "Remain In Light"! I suppose One could argue that, if nothing else, this video proves that Brian Eno is a well-rounded individual. I hope that he continues to make music 'til he has to, "...fly away".
This happened because Brian Eno, Laurie Anderson and Ebe Oke were recording together in Copenhagen and live streaming the process on the main public library and by the end of the week they would do a talk and present the recording that they had done, on the library. So, every Wednesday morning there is this singing at the library and I guess Brian Eno, being in Copenhagen at the time, agreed to participate because he likes collective singing. Last week David Byrne was here as well. I think we are lucky here in Copenhagen, to have people like this stopping by at our library :-) This is the talk they did: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kyo1RGY2CkQ.html
