Whether you enjoy and appreciate Richard's vocals is personal business. The fact remains is that he sings in perfect key. Like his voice or not, the man has got the soul and at the end of the day if you got the soul...you got the goods.
Personally I love his vocals but I agree with you completely. This one gives me goosebumps and the feels all over I might make this my funeral song it was Shine A Light from Exile but...
How friggin awesome he is waiting for the Canadian drug sqaud trying to get him for commercial drug traffickers mandatory 15 -25 he is not a fucking dealer and Mick playing shanigans with trudeo Margret , Pierre said get out of my life don't take my wife go

This is my favourite version of this song ever, and these Toronto bootlegs are some of my absolute favourite Keith recordings ever. He really has a special talent doing this old country stuff.
These songs he recorded in Toronto break my heart. Knowing what he was facing--25 years in prison, separation from his wife & kids, loss of freedom, loss of music, loss of his band (there's no Stones without Keith), makes all these songs so much more poignant. And they are poignant enough to make me weep already. I hope they play this at my funeral.
This song pretty much speaks for itself. The subject matter is very emotional so just about whomever sings it, that`s worth their salt, nails it. Jerry Garcia, Graham Parsons, Merl Haggard, or Kieth. All very good at what they do and all nailed it.
That's beautiful ! Such a simple tune, but with those lyrics thrown in, it becomes a heart breaking song. That's Merle Haggard for you and Keith delivers it beautifully. Thank god for those two.
Wow! What a song....it's bringing tears to my eyes because of the emotion in Keith's voice. Never heard this one before and I thank-you for sharing it!
Written by future Country Music icon Merle Haggard in the '60s - he had spent time in solitary confinment at San Quentin prison - the isolation cell was located on Death Row.
@@gutterdandy9173 Keith was a Country Music fan - recorded a couple of songs from George Jones - also admired Haggard as you allude to. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n2zbvtSWCao.html
my brother wanted this song to play by keith before he left here....god bless you brother...you "RIP" I will be with you soon....love you bro...hated you took the blame for a crime you didn't commit... I love you brother "Tom"
Must have scared the crap out of him facing prison time for peddling heroin in Toronto. The recordings he made when everyone else took off to New York are raw, beautiful, and telling. That gruff exterior belies a very sensitive soul.
Keith never needed to peddle heroin in Toronto. Hell could you imagine Keith wanting to sell heroin at the corner of Bloor and Young asking in his gravely voice, " Hey man, want some smack? I need the money." the only reason he was charged with possession of trafficking was because of the amount they found and it was for both himself and Anita who were both addicts. Keith was no criminal but he was a heroin addict
I love this song 🎵 ❤️ and Keith. Your voice is beautiful and amazing. You have a raspy yet sweet sound. You are laid-back cool with a edge of bad ass. You are a songwriting genius. Your music and lyrics touch deep down. I love these pics of Keith,he's so damn good looking too. Keith you are my favorite Stone.God Bless You Always. Love you Keith. Your music has real meaning and feeling.
Dearest Keith ❤greatest Icon, you are the greatest ever! Please sing more songs.. your words, voice, heart, and soul... so helpful, expressive, beautiful and inspiring bring great love and beauty and heart! Please share more and more .. bring it with you to us! Love and Hugs, Linda
Much respect for this version. This song is not about how well one sings it, but all about the emotion and whether the listener believe's the deliverer. In my humble opinion- and homage to the one and only MH- Keith, I believed, and you did the song justice.
The house Gram lived in when he was a child is in Waycross Georgia now. I have stood in the room he loved, and I sensed that he is not confined there, but he has not forgotten it. His spirit is untroubled, but remains unbound.
Really loved it. There's just something about the country songs that I've heard Keith do. He's really great and I think he has a deeper side than most people think. 5***** Thanx, Sam
I´m so agree with you, me a real fan of the Stones( they call them "los Rolling" in Spain..), I have the same feelings bout´Keith since 24 years ago now. lately I had that feeling about Brian as well, at leats he was the Music/sound soul in the band till the end of 1967...when he began to lost his mind cause too much drugs in a wrong minded one... for so much excess. All the best, bye now from Alcalá de Herares, Madrid. ;)
Without Keith Mick is nothing and Mick proved it Micks song writing sucks badly without Keith but then again Keith is the Stones Mick is cool anf I love his voice.
this version was very enjoyable, had a honest tone and pace. after further listening I want this song played 1st thing at my wake when that time comes. smooth yet beautiful!
He’ll be back no more and tjere’ll be no one who has Made much to the blues bein ‘ recognized as it deserves by livin ‘ a blues life …. Well it’s so long so long babe he must say goodbye and roll this highway until the day he’ll never dye and always be on us
He sounds very sorry for his ways that led him to getting busted on this song. you can here he is lost no matter when it was. so glad he got his crap together. he is awesome and if indeed the rcmp saved his life as someone stated here then they did us all a huge favor..he very well could of ended up like his best friend gram who is also my all time fav singer..keith is a close second, I'm glad he made it and is with us today. :)
love this shot of keith, I'M glad he didn't join the 27 clubs. CLASSIC shot. keep on playing keith the world need you to make us smiling and happy. right on.
If Keith Richards would have been a solo artist he would have been talked about right next to the over-rated Bob Dylan. But, since he's considered by most the guitar player from the Roling Stones he's passed over when people speak about the best songwriters ever, but there's a reason he is in the songwriters Hall of Fame!!
A fine Keith Richard version of this sad country classic. The Byrds also do this brilliantly too. As do The Everlys. & of course Merle Haggard. Chris Newman Southampton Uk 🇬🇧
When Keith does a country song he shows it the same respect that he shows a classic blues tune. A lot of Brit rock singers try to affect a southern accent.
The warden led a prisoner down the hallway to his doom I stood up to say good-bye like all the rest And I heard him tell the warden just before he reached my cell 'Let my guitar playing friend do my request'. Let him sing me back home with a song I used to hear Make my old memories come alive Take me away and turn back the years Sing Me Back Home before I die' I recall last Sunday morning a choir from 'cross the street Came to sing a few old gospel songs And I heard him tell the singers 'There's a song my mama sang. Can I hear once before we move along?' Sing me back home, the song my mama sang Make my old memories come alive Take me away and turn back the years Sing Me Back Home before I die Sing Me Back Home before I die
Go back and listen again to the Stones. He occasionally sang lead. Not often, but that is Keef singing "Happy" and "You Got the Silver", and if you hear harmony with Mick, it is usually him.
Seen a ridiculous comment saying Gram Parsons is on vocals.. This was recorded in '77, Gram died in '73..do the math! This is all Keith! Wonderful! Downloaded the full bootleg there, it's a gem!
Read his biography; he's an interesting man. On this, he sounds more like a depressed convict than any of the other guys; can't hold a note, but Jeez he can sell a song. An extraordinary performance. He should take up country full time...he has the heart for it.
If I hadn't known this was Keith Richards, I'd have thought it was Bob Dylan before his voice went south. Honestly? I'd listen to Keith sing instead of Mick any day.
Wow, ya sang that well, nice voice there Keith. Sing me back home, Been singing that song forever, where is home.? I still don't know, I've been moving on since I were in my teens, I keep saying this will have to be my last move cause I'm tired and can't do It anymore, but I'm still not home. Can't understand it, all I ever wanted was a little animal sanctuary, I never got it and its probably too late in life now. Not to worry, I'll have enough to think about when the SHTF lol. By the way I've got a drummer friend who knows every beat to every song you've ever wrote, he says he likes a good sesh, he's teaching me to drum at the moment. take care K.....di.
What place have that to do among comments about Richards rendition of this song? Been hard for you. Sad and hope It gets better. It will, don't give up and it will. Fight hard and i know it will. But it aint Keith the comments are for, but fellow Y-tubers.
I hope you find peace, safety, Joy, & your Heart's True Home. With many animal friends. 💗 Mine is Humboldt County, in far Northern California, in the Ancient Coast Redwood Forest, by Mother Pacific, Ancient Mountains, & six Wild Rivers, & the California wilderness. Paradise. No where else do, or have, I ever felt at peace. I hope to return before I die, & have my ashes under the Redwood Tree, where I buried my child's placenta. Or, just throw my body out in those woods for the Bears, Raven, Banana Slugs, & Fishers. In the Redwood Trees, where the Sasquatch roam free, that's where you'll find me . Sing me back home, before I die....
@Madmelodist Have you read his autobiography? It gives an insight of Keith which has never been publicized before. He's a very sensitive, intelligent man behind the facade! Even during his drug days he knew exactly what he was doing, if he hadn't he would have died alongside all the others who messed up. I love this one too, country was his first love.
@Redwood Rebelgirl Yes during the recording Parsons taught him many country songs Richards never heard. They were so tight & drugged out together they had to have Parsons kicked out so they could finish the album. Also Gram & Keith worked together on Wild Horses tune no lyrics, didn't make " Exile" but later with lyrics made it onto the next album. No credit for Parsons, just like they fucked Maryanne Faithfull out of royalties on Sister Morphine it took her 40 years in court to get royalties for that song, & really fucked Taylor on Exile & other albums songs he wrote with Jagger that he got no credit for like Moonlight Mile for one. Taylor quit because of the reason because he was getting no credit for his input & was starting to become really addicted to heroin & refused to tour for the It's only R&R album. Most of there so called "New" songs in the came from their Vault of Masters which didn't make Exile, Sticky Fingers & it's only R&R even back to when Brian was still in the band. Now they just remind me of an oldies band like bands you see on PBS.
Wild horses didn’t make exile, but the next album, you know jack shit it was on sticky fingers, and parsons didn’t write one note of wild horses, the 1st time he heard the song was when Richards played him the ms sessions , and gram loved the song he asked if he could record it, and keef said no problem , now go and read some books on the stones 🤦
