Father Ernie Sands used to go mad at us boys for singing "bring out the Lord's goodness". Still, he had a good sense of humour - hope he's doing ok. Will go see him next time I visit the UK.

Sorry - the 5/4 rhythm just sounds TOO much like "Take 5" by Dave Brubeck. Fun as a jazz piece, love it as a jazz piece, but it's utterly inappropriate in a liturgical service. Pop music is fun; I have nothing against enjoying it. But no matter what the lyrics are, the swinging pop cadence and imitation of 'Take 5" is pretty disrespectful of God, and lacks the dignity and reverence which should be part of any respectful worship service.

One person's 'disrespectful' is another's 'sing with joy to the Lord'. We are a diverse lot with a diverse way in which God ministers to us through music. My congregation love this... and they are good, faithful souls. Let's agree to disagree on this one, friend.

@@upperclydeparishchurch I'm always up with 'agreeing to disagree'. In the RC church, however, there is the magisterium, and it lays down guidelines for music that is appropriate to use for Mass. Even Vatican II stated: 'Gregorian Chant has and should be given the pride of place." Realize, however, that the 39,0000+ varieties of protestantism have different views of what is considered 'appropriate' service music. So have fun with popularized, secularized music however you want; I still don't want to see it ever, in a Catholic Mass,
