Singapore Airlines Turbulence | Over 40 passengers from a turbulence-hit Singapore Airlines flight are receiving treatment in Bangkok, with 20 in intensive care. Among the injured, 22 have spinal cord injuries, and six have brain and skull injuries. Most patients are British and Australian nationals, with the oldest being 83 and the youngest a two-year-old with a concussion. One passenger died of a suspected heart attack on the May 21 flight, which diverted to Bangkok. Fatal turbulence incidents in air travel are rare, with the last occurring in 1997. The injuries can be severe because it is latent.

I used to fly a lot with my job in the 90’s and I was all about the seat belt! I flew all over the world and remember 2 flights where the severe turbulence scared the 💩 out of me. Once in Eastern Europe and once in South East Asia.

What a stupid question could this turbulence be prevented, the only things the captains could do is try to prevented from severely only,

They have to improve safety from turbulence. Some way to detect turbulence zones - to avoid them, or did this plane lose altitude. seat belts advised at all times and stuff like that.

The turbulence was most likely caused by the people who didn`t fasten their seatbelts. Using toilets during the flight is totally unacceptable and those passengers who couldn`t control their bladders and bowels for the short 13 hours of the flight should be banned from flying for life. The man who alegedly died of a heart attack probably had plenty of underlying conditions so he would have died anyway. In short, there is nothing to see here. You travel at your own risk and the carrier is under no obligation to take care of your safety. Since the climate change is directly caused by the unfastened passengers who disregard the rules that whether the ""fasten your seatbelts"" sign is on or off it means exactly the same thing, which is fasten your seatbelts, so those people should pay a special $1000 fee every time they purchase an airline ticket, which would be donated to the Save the Planet Fund, and all the other people on that plane who could have simply stayed home, but decided to contibute to the global warming instead should pay a 100% selfishness tax on their future air travels . Have I missed anything from the story?

Very funny - I don't think. What's your point ?

This is pilot negligence. Pilot and first officer has ability to see oncoming turbulence and they should have warned passengers and crew. Airline must be sued.

CLEAR AIR TURBULENCE
@chalayan

perhaps you try becoming a pilot and see if you can detect the clear air turbulance which currently is non detectable even by technology. Also, the pilots and the crews have done their utmost best and landed the plane safely in Bangkok despite the crews are injured yet they continued to help the passengers. Talk is Cheap!

@@chalayan Exactly. Nonetheless, there will be attempts to bring major lawsuits against Singapore Airlines.

@@roxximusik8958 those ungrateful ones for sure will want money. Perhaps, they should buy travel insurance next time.

I would never leave home without full comprehensive travel insurance, which will include a medical evaluation. I was stranded for 3 months during Covid my insurance paid every cent of my expenses, most ppl didn’t have insurance and ended up paying dearly. Clear air turbulence happens, accept it as the new normal.
