Thank you for the nice walk, brings back sweet memories of buying CNY delicacies like sweet sticky rice cakes etc which is available all year now , unlike in the 80's and 90's they are only available during CYN. Anyway great video as always, lots of fun watching Singaporean preparing CYN in spite of the uncertainties with the current pandemic. Hopefully this year of the Ox will make us strong, bring good health and prosperity to all of us. Stay well as always.
Glad to show you around Bugis 😄 By the way, this coming weekend the lights will be up at Chinatown. Wondering how things will be like over there then 😄
We were very lucky Delta didn't hit when we were celebrating our CNY this year. Would have been a disaster 🤣 Cross fingers that is the last major variant we would have to face
I was 2018 in Singapore. Our Hotel was on the Bencoolen Street. Good People, fantastic Food and amazing architecture. I hope to visit singapore again in near future. Greetings to all good poeple
Yes it was 😊 I didn't put in the footage along Guanyin Temple but its nice to see the flower sellers have their designated shop lots now. More orderly.
_It's getting close to Alan's favorite time of the year , Feb 12 CNY. The time of family reunion dinners and hong baos.I know lah Alan you want to be strong as an Ox right? Thanks for the video upload_ 😃👍
Love visiting this place Waterloo.. Have a big Chinese temple( guan yin niang niang )there.. Use to go to the temple with my colleagues to pray on the 1st and 15th days of lunar calendar.. Miss Singapore so much..
Yeah it's a popular temple. Wanted to start filming in that area but unfortunately it was already closed. Think it's only open in the mornings and early afternoon
Watching your film is like I was also there walking around Singapore.. How about filming "garden by the bay"? Love that place as well..So many different types of flowers there..
@@phiklangbong2148 Thanks 😄 For gardens by the bay, you can check out my Singapore Attractions playlist. I filmed it once during pre-covid days. There are also 2 videos on Cloud Forest and Flower Dome ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rwSvpPoCf8w.html
It seems that in the distance you can see my hotel "Boss")).I didn't even know that you could walk from Bugis to the hotel,I always took the subway. By the way, you have a very disciplined people, all wearing masks, even on the street. Here in Russia, the mask is worn only in the store, transport, i.e. where there are closed rooms, and then only because otherwise they will not be allowed in public places
Yeah its considered walkable (if you can endure the humidity and hot temperature) 😄 Hotel Boss is in a nice spot, its very close to Masjid Sultan and the Kampong Glam heritage area. And there is a main road nearby called "Jalan Besar", its well known in Singapore for the unique dishes being sold by the restaurants over there. Some of the hawkers have been doing the business for decades. Yeah majority of us Singaporeans do our best to abide by the rules. Mask wearing is compulsory the moment you step out of your door and we are only allowed to take if off when eating/drinking and doing strenuous exercise. We still have people who don't abide and the government just fines them S$300. They employed "Safety Ambassadors" to go around to ensure people are reminded of the rules. Keeps the people in check. Not that its a bad thing. I would say its a necessary "evil" in this pandemic times.
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV As for wearing a mask, I fully agree with you, at this time it is necessary to adhere to the rules. Therefore, you have few covid cases in your country.Unfortunately, Russian people are more careless. And about the Masjid Sultan, I am a little upset,I did not meet her on the way, probably, I was looking for her in the wrong place..In the next trip, I will set a goal to visit this place.
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV Well. Thanks!)) I visited the main sights, but I would like to just walk around the city in different places.I really liked the place near the Oasis hotel in Chinatown,I was in the dark, I would like to walk there in the daytime. In general, I want to repeat the entire route))
This is about 40% the density of past years in Singapore. I had claustrophobia in Chinatown about 2 years ago. This has really change what “crowded” means in S.E.A.
There is one big difference between shopping centres in Australia and Singapore. The Singaporean Centres have no seating anywhere. I have a limited range of mobility and I have my own seat with me when I'm going to SG. It is an ingenious little telescopic seat.
Yeah its true. Space is a premium and they probably don't want people to sit. If you want to rest, you can go to a restaurant to grab a drink and rest there 😄
I'm helper from Indonesia.. 15 years.. Now ready go home but i vr like Singapore. I love miss always Singapore.. Now i stay at home forever because covid.. Cannot come back again so sading
01:36 - I think there is or was a coin laundry to the left. I used it once. lol QB House! That's the quick haircut place! 25:41 - Something you rarely or never see in The States. A set of banks' ATM machines side-by-side. Many people withdraw cash when paying for their groceries at the supermarket. There are ATM machines around (many run by private companies and the fees can be high) but, using the supermarket cashier is usually free if you buy something. The 7-11s in my area have a maximum of $10 that can be withdrawn with a purchase and some mom & pop shops will allow you to get cash also. 25:46 Beard Papa's! I saw these guys in Tokyo but never tried them.
Fascinating. Didn't realise that's how things work in the States. The ATMs here don't charge for withdrawing money and its a convenient way not to hold on to much cash. That said, the transition towards digital payment is steadily getting traction. Tried Beard Papa's before. Its too sweet for me =D
@@robertbrianheath1629 Sorry I was not clear. We do have debit cards, I was just commenting on the set of bank ATM machines shown in the video. I've never seen that in the States.
@@OneManOneCamera OK I get that but Why would Some one Withdraw Cash from Account in the Store when you can simply pay by Card!...Or even if ATM is out of Store?
@@Sema4beach That is a good question. Here are some examples. Some apartments will take your card for rent BUT tack on a 4% or more service charge, so cash is king as many do not offer online pay. Some small shops only take cash (or require a minimum purchase in order to use a debit card without a fee) and many believe the government tracks the spending of individuals... and cash doesn't leave a trail. My feeling is that the US has been slow to take up a "cashless society." During my time in Tokyo, I remember when vending machines began to give people an option of paying by cash OR using their prepaid train fare card. It could not have been cheap for so many vending machines to be upgraded but it was done. Here in the States, many firms seem reluctant and now that I think more about it, I've only noticed a few places where you can pay by Apple Pay or Samsung Pay.
@@juneteng Yeah its currently "Still the same" for the moment. Capitalands acquired the Bugis Village and Bugis Street area and will be doing re-contruction to the area. Not sure what's it going to be like 3-4 years from now
The source of the problems comes from the imported cases. Sure some of the imported cases are asymptomatic and started spreading to the community. Then the community cases started all over again. The last CB and phase 2 we did good by stopping imported cases coming into Singapore. Then the Government opened up and let people come in hell its Deja Vu again.
