Hi gang, the Singapore series has started! Hope you enjoy this one, we’re still dreaming about those curry chicken noodles 🤤 Remember to follow us on Instagram where we post real time food stories @chasingaplate
Isn't it great?! We love it too- it's so easy to travel around and there is literally good food at every turn! Omg I'm still dreaming about that bowl of curry mee! Thanks for watching Jennifer, hope you like the rest of the series! Cheers, Sheena 😘
Oh gosh was just in Singapore at the start of April this year. Looking at your video I want to go to Singapore just for the food and a city that I never ever worry about being scammed or pick pocketed. Great video done in one of my favourite country.
Hope you had a brilliant visit MrMichaelmackenzie! It is such a safe place to travel around isn't it? We're the same, you feel very much at ease when you're there. Hope this Singapore series brings back delicious memories of your time there! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment 😀 Cheers, Sheena
Thank you for the positive feedback. Our crimes are low,but doesn't mean no crime. Still has to be on guard. We don't things for granted even though it's relatively safe. Hope you visit us soon!
I'm Singaporean, lived here all my life and I can testify that it is indeed really safe here. I have absolutely no qualms walking around myself in a dimly lit area in the dead of the night. Many Singaporeans do actually leave their belongings and valuables lying around in public places like cafes, coffee shops, hawker centres etc. when they go to the toilet or go off to order food; it's really safe so I am guilty of doing that myself sometimes as well. I've travelled to more than 20 countries around the world and dare I say none of them have made me feel as safe as my home country.
😄😄😄 so glad you enjoyed the video Wynona! We always love visiting Singapore- we eat very well indeed 🤤 Hope you enjoy the rest of the series. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 brilliant joe zurita! Make sure you give the curry noodle spot a visit- it’s right in the heart of the city so it’ll probably be near some of the spots you’ll be visiting 😄 Hope our videos can help with your eating itinerary 😍 thanks for watching and commenting mate. Cheers, Sheena
Go to Hong Lim Food centre which is beside Chinatown point near Chinatown MRT. Try the Outram fried kuay teow mee (Sunday closed) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aaxcFpIHu5Y.html at second floor. You cannot miss it because it has the longest queue! Opposite this stall is the Tai wah Pork noodle which is also nice. Also try the Hiong Kee dumpling at the same second floor. Tell them you want the nonya dumpling.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7BQnapkxZSs.html Go try popiah and rojak at Maxwell food centre. There is also a famous chicken rice there, Tian Tian chicken rice Order chicken rice meat with bone . Say you want the leg portion.
Thanks so much for the lovely feedback mate! So happy you are enjoying our content. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment 😄 Cheers, Sheena
Hello there welcome to spore🇸🇬❤ You shld try alot of delicious food at spore while u are here ya... 1. Bedok corner 2. Adam road 3. Simpang bedok 4. Beach road 5. Boon keng market 6. Eunos market 7. Geylang market 8. Haig road 9. Tekka market 10. Chinatown and plenty more of food out there...🤗🍻👍✌❤
Hi fai mie, thanks so much for the warm welcome! We always love visiting- we never have enough time to explore all the markets and hawker centres we want to though 😄 thanks so much for the awesome recommendations! Hope you enjoyed the video and like the rest of the series 😄 Cheers, Sheena
Hi samantha, thanks for watching and commenting! Whereabouts are you from? The food culture in Singapore is pretty awesome- the hawker centre culture is brilliant. Glad we were able to take you along with us! Cheers, Sheena
Drooling right now guys! It's taking us right back to Singapore and it's only been a few months or so. We also made it to Dunman Food Centre too. - Trevor
Awesome guys! It’s such a neat local spot right?! Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you guys had a great time in Singapore on your visit! Cheers, Sheena
The Victory restaurant has the best fish briyani as well. It's my parents favourite place for nasi briyani. They have mutton, beef, chicken and fish briyani. You can find common mutton and chicken briyani anywhere but beef and fish is quite rare. I recommend the fish and beef briyani. It's yummy! :)
Awesome recommendation rina aniraz! I don’t think we’ve ever eaten fish biryani so will have to give it a go on our next visit 😍 Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena
I am so glad for once it is not about Maxwell food center and Tian Tian chicken rice. Grossly overrated. Local's can't even be bothered with them. Well done for the refreshing reviews!
😂 we agree with you wholeheartedly John15 Photography- there is much more out there than Tian Tian and Maxwell food Center! Thanks for watching and commenting and we’re glad you enjoyed this video! Hope you like the other content on our channel. Cheers, Sheena
You totally have to get there Wouter Veraart! Bet you would really enjoy it! The food is great- so much delicious choice!! Thanks for watching and commenting mate 😄 Cheers, Sheena
I'd advise against Satay by the Bay. It's overpriced and mediocre. Tourist trap. Try Old Airport Road. It's one of the best hawker centres in Singapore and most of the stalls there have a certain benchmark otherwise their business wouldn't survive there.
Hi rev, thanks for watching! Old Airport Road is one of our favourites- we visit often! It's actually in our latest Singapore video 😀 Hope you enjoy the rest of our Singapore series! Cheers, Sheena
Oh look l found a vid of you guys l hadnt commented (stalked) you on!! Almost a year to the day since this posting, what a world change since then. What l wouldnt give for a plate of Rojak right now or that stuffed Murtabak, l almost forgot how much Sheena can shovel in one bite and keep her lippy and dignity intact!! ❤
Yay!! Glad you found another one to enjoy while we’re not posting. Thanks so much for all your continued support. We can’t wait to get filming and posting again. Sheena is a machine! Thanks so much. Thomas 😀
The hot beverages (coffee or tea) are actually customisable anywhere in Singapore, not just in Ya Kun, but we use some unique terminology to order drinks derived from the different languages that are spoken here. Kopi: Coffee Teh: Tea C: with condensed/evaporated milk O: black (without milk) Gao: thick (from Hokkien dialect), for stronger coffee Kosong: empty (in Malay), no sugar Siew Dai: less sweet (from some Chinese dialect I'm not sure which lol theres simply too many) Peng: iced (from Hokkien dialect) We also call hot tea without any additives "diao hir" (which means fishing in the Hokkien dialect, the tea bag hanging out of the cup resembles a fishing line), milo is "tak kiu" (which means "to kick a ball" in the Hokkien dialect, derived from the boy kicking a ball on the milo tin) etc.
Hi Antalya Gozleri, thanks for watching and commenting! We hope you enjoyed this video! Your list of drinks terminology is super useful for first time visitors to Singapore- we certainly remember how confusing it all was on our first visit. Love the info and backstory behind tak kiu and diao hir 😍 Cheers, Sheena
😍😍😍😍 so happy you enjoyed it S D! Hope you had a snack on hand mate! Big love back and hope you enjoy the rest of the series. Thanks for watching and enjoy the rest of your week! Cheers, Sheena
So happy you enjoyed it Call Me Maybe! We love food hunting in Singapore so much! Thanks for watching and commenting- hope you like our other Singapore videos! Cheers, Sheena
Soft boiled eggs with soy sauce and white pepper? I have to try that! Uhhh, the murtabak? One hand for all those ingredients? I’m not sure I could do that.
It’s a great combo 5cats 2kids! I always remember my grandmother pouring soy sauce over our easy over eggs as well before putting them on top of a bowl of white rice and quickly piercing the yolk so it’d mix in with the soy. It was great! Oh gosh that murtabak was a hefty plate of food 😆 thanks for watching and commenting on this one! Cheers, Sheena
Hi guys I hope you’re both well, it’s wonderful to see you guys in Singapore. That breakfast was awesome, loved the curry noodle bowls and that salad with that sauce was so interesting 😍 great video
Hi FitAngie! Thanks for watching mate 😄 we’re great thanks- having a blast in Italy! Omg everything we ate was awesome- so glad you enjoyed the video 😘 Cheers, Sheena
Ahhh noted! Thanks for the recommendation mate 😄 we’ve visited Maxwell hawker centre in the past but didn’t get to that stall so hope we can visit on our next trip. Thanks for watching and commenting 😄 so happy you are enjoying our videos! Cheers, Sheena
I'm Singaporean, and while Singapore is indeed an expensive country to travel to especially in terms of accommodation - there aren't really that many options for budget travellers especially since Airbnb is banned in our country (you can actually be fined very heavily by the government by leasing your apartment out for short term rental online). That said however, local food in Singapore is quite inexpensive in my opinion and readily available to the masses. You can easily get a huge spread and variety in a hawker centre without breaking your bank
Good to see you both back and in my fave foodie place. I go to Singapore every year. Love it. Have you tried the mutton murtabak at Zam Zam nextdoor to Victory? Thats always top of my list of places to eat at.
Hi mate, thanks for watching and commenting 😄 we’re so happy to be back! Ah yes we’ve eaten at Zam Zam before- it’s great too 🤤 we’re huge fans of the Zam Zam in KL also- it’s super crispy. Bet whenever you visit you have a list of things to eat that’s a mile long! Hope you enjoy the rest of the series! Cheers, Sheena
Hi guys!! Thanks for watching and commenting 😄 a lot of crossover for sure but there are definitely unique Singaporean dishes that you don’t see in Malaysia (and vice versa). Chinese Singaporean food is what’s most common unlike Malaysia where Malay food dominates 😄 Just reflective of the populations. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series guys! Cheers, Sheena
Yes Malaysia and Singapore might be sharing the same dish, we are like brother and sister , but the Malaysia side is More traditional way, and Malaysia Chinese food they use more of Pork Lard to enhance flavor. For Singapore side, the Malaysia immigrant brought the food culture over thus we having the same dish is not a surprise, our food tasted bland is because we toward "healthy" living ~ our food is less heavy in taste and used less lard in cooking
😋😋😋😋 thanks so much for the recommendation MH Bin Katab! We will make a note for our next visit! Thanks for watching and commenting on this one, hope you enjoy the rest of the series! Cheers, Sheena
So delicious guys.. we miss Singapore, especially the food .. kaya toast, rojak.. some of the places you went to look familiar :) Another awesome video guys
Thanks so much for watching guys 😄 How great is the food in SG?! Hope this brought back delicious memories of your time there. Thanks for taking the time to comment you two! Cheers, Sheena
Ohh the toast is grilled over charcoal? Great breakfast set there - strong coffee, soft runny eggs and that kaya. Like that you gave it a sweet and savory blend
😄😍😄😍😄 thanks so much mate! So happy to be food hunting and filming again in Singapore! Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you enjoy the series! Cheers, Sheena
yes Singapore is a nation of eaters... that is why I have gained almost 10kg since moving here!! hahaha it is time for me now to stop indulging and start working out haha
Lollll You are right. It took me years to stop having supper. Because it is so accessible and almost everywhere you go,you will come across 24hrs eateries 😂
Thanks so much Luan Yee 😄😄😄 oh gosh that Uncle’s rojak was very special 😍 hope you enjoy the rest of our Singapore series mate. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena
if you are still in singapore i highly you recommend you to check out beach road hawker center and maxwell food center these are few of the finest hawker centers in singapore
Hi viki 91, thanks for watching and commenting! We have visited Maxwell food center before but not Beach Road- will have to visit next time! Thanks for the recommendation. Hope you enjoyed this video and like the rest of the series 😄 Cheers, Sheena
Do remember to drink loads and loads of water mate, Singapore is super hot during this time of the year, and food in Singapore is mostly very heaty for your body, can cause you to have sore throats, cough and even flu if you do not drink enough water. Love your efforts in making all these vlogs but do take care of your health.
Thanks so much Meifern Lee! We were downing the waters and the sugarcane 😄😅 great advice! Hope you are enjoying the Singapore series- we always eat so well when we visit 😄 thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena
Everything looks tasty. Beautiful scenery. Breakfast was extra delicious, love soft boiled eggs. How do you manage the temp change in the foods, because of filming and photos? Do you still manage to eat it while hot?
Usually it’s warm but we don’t mind that as you really get the flavours coming out then 😆 sometimes we get street food vendors shouting at us to eat, eat, eat whilst it’s hot, they don’t understand why we’re just standing around taking shots of the food 🤣 Thanks for watching this one Rebecca! Hope you enjoyed it 😄 Cheers, Sheena
Oh my, love your foodie reviews but those almost raw eggs just look wrong, sorry :) But appreciate you sharing the local breakfast tradition. So excited to see you guys back on the international foodie road. Mmmm yummy curry chicken, you got your Mark Wiens "love this flavor" face, Lol That mix mash fried dough Veggie ruit dish looks almost Thai. So interested, I've Never seen any of these dishes before. Thanks for sharing, James and Kim
They are definitely something to get used to those eggs 😝 we’re so happy we were able to introduce these dishes to you guys! Hope you get to taste them one day (sans eggs 🤣). We’re so happy to be back in the road! Thanks for watching and commenting guys! Cheers, Sheena
Guys what a wonderful breakfast. Love strong coffee with condensed milk! That’s a winner And the running eggs are to die for. Never had them with soy sauce so I’ll def have to try those. The chicken curry plate looks phenomenal! Harmony is the right word to describe it! It looks great and I’m sure it taste even better based on your description and faces guys
This was such a great day of eating guys- everything was top notch! Thanks for watching and commenting- have you ever visited Singapore before? Thanks for watching and commenting 😄 Cheers, Sheena
So happy you enjoyed this one Nica Flores! It’s such a cool place to travel to right?! Hope this video brought back some delicious memories of your trips there! Thanks for watching and commenting mate. Cheers, Sheena
I like how you reply to most comments! Welcome to Singapore, and I was in New Zealand once and the views were AMAZING. Hopefully I'll get another chance to have a proper holiday there. :)

Hi Keith! Thanks for watching and commenting mate- the rojak really was amazing- such a random hodgepodge of ingredients that work in such harmony! Hope you enjoy the rest of the series mate. Cheers, Sheena
Ahahaha we feel your pain with wearing the wrong color with a messy dish! That curry mee looks well worth getting messy for though. Interesting how they cook the chicken Hainanese style, but then you add that curry flavor!
😆😆😆😆😆😆 glad we didn’t understand at the time Ben Yusof or we would have burst out laughing! Thanks for watching and commenting on this one mate. Hope you enjoyed it and like the rest of our Singapore series! Cheers, Sheena
Thanks so much Food Critics! So glad you enjoyed the NZ series! Hopefully we can get back there soon to film more 😄 thanks for watching and commenting- hope you like what we have lined up for the channel! Cheers, Sheena
Hahaha I don’t think I sound anything like Mark Weins 🤣 just being myself! Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you enjoyed this video. Cheers, Sheena
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 we just found out what he was saying too Raymond Chia! Glad we didn’t understand at the time otherwise we would probably have burst out laughing during filming. Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you enjoyed this video and like the rest of our Singapore series! Cheers, Sheena
@@intheworldofmari HAHAHAH He said "hong gan ah, chao cheebye". "Hong gan" means something bad is about to happen, and "chao cheebye" is a curse word which literally means "smelly vagina"
I love that Singapore is so multicultural, like NZ. You can literally food-travel throughout Asia in one country! SO good to see you traveling again, guys. I hope Thomas' upper respiratory bug takes a hike soon. Chilli oil will burn that bugger out.♥
So true MsKestrela! I also love how you can eat really well for very little $ 😍 we’re so happy to be back on the road and Singapore was a great first stop! Thomas’s bug has been banished! Woo hoo! Thanks for watching and commenting MsKestrela 😘 Cheers, Sheena
I'm so glad you tried murtabak! Yea, I wouldn't eat murtabak without dipping it into curry, because it would feel like it's missing something. What you say is right - the mutton isn't really spiced up and the overall flavour is plain. I believe you have to dip it in the curry. For me the meat curry is the best accompaniment ie mutton or chicken curry. With the curry it's like a match made in heaven and then the mutton, egg and the prata start to make sense. That's probably why you liked the chicken better one because it's already flavoured, but the original one is the mutton I believe. Never had the chicken one in my life 😄 The colour of the chicken one reminds me of roti John though 😄😄
Omg it totally looks like roti John!!! 😆 The dal definitely amped things up. We totally should have ordered some curry too in hindsight A O. Next time 😄
Do it Sean! The rojak is so awesome! Saw a very popular popiah stall too 😄 thanks for watching and commenting mate, hope you enjoyed this one! Cheers, Sheena
Get well soon Thomas! And Sheena, gosh what a brave soul with that white tshirt on a curry mee & rojak excursion! Glad to see its still spotless end of filming! 😂😂 And wow wow wow the murtabak looks to die for!! Great vid as usual guys. Take care & cheers!!!! 💚💜
🤣🤣🤣🤣 very unusual for me Ar Em! I’m normally covered in splashes! Thomas is fully recovered now yay! Thanks for watching and commenting on this video mate, so happy you enjoyed it! Cheers, Sheena

Great recommendations chong yikchueh 😄 thank you! We film a fried prawn noodles in an upcoming video- I’ve finally found my favourite one in Singapore! Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you enjoyed the video! Cheers, Sheena
@@ChasingaPlate I'm a local and kway chap is definitely one of my absolute favourite dishes in Singapore but it is an acquired taste. The pigs large intestines braised in soy sauce are the best when dipped in chilli.
Gosh a good plate of murtabak is serious heaven Sheena. The onion chillies and spice mutton with egg inside the crispy bread with slighty burnt edges dip in a dhal curry. Finish that off with local sarabat tea and you'll be smiling guaranteed! My mouth is watering....
My mouth was watering reading your description mate 🤣 it totally hit the spot! Thanks for watching and commenting mate, hope you enjoyed this one! Cheers, Sheena
Thank you so much Yen Lee 😄😄😄 oh gosh yes it’s super hot 😅 we’re downing the sugarcane juices! Hope you enjoyed this video mate and like the rest of the SG series, thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Sheena
😍😍😍😍 thanks so much for watching jjB! So happy you enjoyed the video- hope you like the rest of the series! Omg Singapore has such a great food scene- we love it. Cheers to you in Oz! 😄😄😄
Absolutely ah ma the play boy cat! I reckon the more you visit the more you notice how different the food cultures are. It’s very easy to think they’re similar or the same but each are so unique despite some crossover in certain dishes. We always love food hunting in SG! Thanks for watching and commenting- hope you enjoy the rest of the series! Cheers, Sheena
I loved how you described ya kun's bread. Spot-on! That's what makes it different from the white, chunky toasts you find in your normal coffee shop. Eggs (and eggs done this way) soy sauce and white pepper is a combo I can't live without 😍 I have never dipped the sweet toast in the egg though haha..
😝 I love a sweet and savoury combo A O! Do you have eggs this way at home often? Always love getting into the Singaporean breakfasts when we’re there- oh and the kopi 😍 thanks for watching and commenting mate. Cheers, Sheena
Oh I see. I thought you meant 'home' as in 'Singapore'. Not often, only when I crave it :) What I love about the half-boiled egg is that you'll not feel as if eating the egg white is a chore - it just slides down your throat easily like the egg yolk and you don't have to worry about chewing it like you would on a well-cooked egg. I have also made my own kaya before and you'll realise that if you make a really rich kaya (egg yolks, panda juice, sugar, coconut milk), you don't really need the butter at all - it'll just feel intrusive.
Omg Rod Reves, I have to agree with you on that front. Different ingredients so unfair to compare but if I had to pick a favourite out of all the ones we’ve ever eaten that would be number one. It was one of the best things we ate in Indonesia 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 Thanks for watching and commenting on this one mate. Hope you enjoyed it! Cheers, Sheena
Hi Pin Sopheak! Thanks for watching and commenting, we hope you enjoyed the video 😄 We always eat so well in Singapore! Hope you enjoy the rest of the series! Cheers, Sheena
Hi Stuckinmo Pro, thanks for watching and commenting mate! The gloved hand he uses when touching the meat and noodles and the ungloved he’s just holding the bowl and ladle with 😄 Hope you enjoyed this video. Cheers, Sheena
You totally have to visit Spectre VA6! It's a great place and the food is epic. Thanks for watching and commenting, hope you enjoy the rest of the series! Cheers, Sheena

Hi mate! Gosh it sounds awesome! We’ve zipped over to Europe now 😆 definitely want to get back to Sarawak soon though- we have so much more exploring to do! Thanks for watching and commenting on this one 😄 Cheers, Sheena
😍😍😍😍 thanks so much Kit King!! Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to stop by Malaysia- we were in SG to see family and managed to add some filming in too 😆 we’re in Europe now. Hoping to get back to Asia soon! Thanks for watching and commenting on this one- hope you like what we have coming up on the channel! Cheers, Sheena
Rojak is not your typical 'healthy' salad. Not to mention it's lacking that 'green' and 'colour' that you would want to see in your classic salad. In Singapore we like to describe messiness or a disorganised state with the word rojak, meaning a mish-mash of things. Glad you found a good rojak!!!!!
Hahaha definitely not a salad by the usual definition! Love how the word is used to describe messiness or disorganisation- so neat 😄 it’s so cool learning these things on here!
SO GOOD 1981cherokee1! Feeling pumped and ready to hit it hard 🙌 hope you enjoyed this one mate, we have loads of content coming up- hope you all like what we have lined up! Thanks for watching and commenting 😄 Cheers, Sheena
Hi Ilona Jones, thanks for watching and commenting! Not sure you're saying who sounds like Mark, hope it's not me 😂 Hope you enjoy the rest of our Singapore series! Cheers, Sheena
nice one guys ,sorry to hear your not well thomas , best thing to clear your nose is eat a strong white onion .. lol cheers . oh sheena still looking GOOD ..
Ha good advice Basingstoke Dave! I was popping the raw garlic cloves- they work wonders too. Thanks for watching this one, hope you enjoyed it 😀 Cheers, Thomas
