Singapore is preparing to hang two drug traffickers this week, including the first woman to be executed in the city state in nearly 20 years, according to rights organisation Transformative Justice Collective. The group identified the 45-year-old woman as Saridewi Djamani, who was sentenced to death in 2018 for trafficking about 30 grams of heroin. Local rights groups have urged the government to halt the executions, the first to hang a 56-year-old man on July 26, 2023, followed by the female convict two days later.

Why do some people defend drug dealers in the name of human rights? Don't they think about the rights of innocent people who become victims when these dealers operate? If you don't want to end up getting hanged for breaking anti-drug laws, then just don't sell drugs. It's as simple as that. Feel free to move to another country you think is more liberal and humane, like the USA, or something. Have you ever purchased a product due to its enticing promotion, even though you didn't actually need it? Unknowingly lured, you succumbed to the allure of the offer. This analogy holds true; if no dealers were offering drugs, there would be no buyers falling victim to its grasp. Nevertheless, criminal acts remain criminal acts. I believe no one would willingly accept the tragic loss of a family member due to drug consumption. The devastating consequences of drug abuse underscore the importance of addressing the root causes and discouraging any involvement with such harmful substances.

And... it's unfair for the drug dealers to die? You can't claim they didn't know that would be the result. And what of the people around the buyers, such as their families? Are they not innocent, and are they not harmed?

I am not too fond of the death penalty but in this case you must look into situation ethics. Think about the families who lose their children and loved ones to drug addiction every day. These drug traffickers are essentially profiting off of death, and the death penalty may well be seen as the only way that justice can be reached. Think about the drug epidemic which is ravaging the western world compared to a relatively safe Singapore

@@riorio745 People that use drugs are little more than a nuisance to a country because they aren't strong people that can overcome their addiction. If so, then why spare mercy on those who smuggle drugs into your country? Running a country depends less on ethics and more on interests. If I was Saridewi, I would gladly accept the execution, it would be an end to an extremely painful life. Life imprisonment is a living death. Long drop hanging is swift and humane, death is caused by the instantaneous fracture of the C2 or C3 cervical vertebrae. An afterlife or reincarnation would be preferable.
