This is the Chinese reality TV show, The Singer. Where they get established professional singers to compete against each other. This 2017 season, they brought in a foreign wildcard entry from Kazakhstan, Dimash, after one of the producers heard him sing when he won a 2016 singing competition in Belarus called the Salinski Bazaar. He was the youngest, and not a professional yet. So, it wasn't expected that he would last the first round. BUT his first performance, SOS, took the country by surprise and he won the very first round on the opening week. Overnight, he became a superstar in China and launched his journey into world stardom. There are a number of unforgettable performances from The Singer 2017. He really should have won the overall competition, but the show couldn't let it be a foreigner instead of a Chinese singer, so they gave Dimash 2nd place. The subsequent protest from this, lead the producers to abandon this policy and no longer favor Chinese performers. Leading to more international professional singers to participate in following seasons. Yes, Dimash is a generational talent, a singing prodigy. He is the uncontested best singer in the world. Name one other male singer in all of human recorded or known musical history that can sing in Bass, Baritone, Tenor, Alto, Soprano, High Soprano, pop, opera, Broadway, folk, dance/club music all with legitimate highest quality vocal sound production equally well and equally strong in all registers - who can blend any number of genres and registers effortlessly in a single song and have it sound amazing AND who could also hit 2 notes off the top of the piano? His physical presence alone is impressive at 6 foot 3 inch. This song is by Russian singer Vitas, who was very popular in China for his vocal range. Dimash has a wider range than Vitas though. That's why the audience was excited. They knew this song. I love the support his "Competitors" give each other. So warm. The lady doing the high note "mickey take", won the whole Competition, beating Dimash.
The man at the end that said horrible was also translated as terrifying in some translations. Those were people who had to compete against him and it was the second time they heard him sing. The same person is now a close friend of Dimash's. What you will be interesting in knowing is since 2017 he has developed his baritone voice a great deal. He will be 29 in May so there is also a level of maturity you will notice in his newer performances. One such performance is The Story of One Sky. He composed the music, wrote the script, acted in the video, and sang all of the parts although you will think it is several people. It is about war and the need for peace between different cultures and religions etc. It is intense, and can be difficult to watch but it is a masterpiece and is up for an award in the UK at a film festival this month. Would be nice for it to be acknowledged here in the states but our industry seems to focus on far less talent.

Weather and his work schedule were the obstacles keeping his Dad from getting to see his son sing. Dimash was a 'wildcard' and Dimash became the youngest performer to ever appear in the competition. Dad caught the last flight that was going to Beijing. There was a hole in the weather that had caused many flights going east from Kazakhstan. Apparently, not long after the 'hole' opened it closed and then it was a race to stay ahead of the storm. So like the video said his Dad just got to the studio just as Dimash was doing the entrance thing. Dimash later said in an interview, 'I wouldn't have shown off so much if I'd known he was there.' Still it was amazing to me to hear him say, 'was my singing good?' Did you notice the height difference between Dimash and Dad? Dimash is a full 6'3" tall. I'm grateful to whoever gave you this link. I stumbled on it not long after I saw the first video had been out for the last couple years. Since then I've been trying to get this video into the mix. You are the first reactor I've watched that has put this video up as their first viewing of this performance. After this performance came out and went viral the original writer artist Vitas got a court injunction barring Dimash from singing this song period.

Dimash is the competition "i 'm singer " in China 2017 in front of 500 jurors and established competitors from China. He is the only foreigner and the youngest ,only 22 years old.
Not in a century, not in a millenium, but in all time. If there ever was a voice greater than Dimash’s in history, it surely would have been mentioned somewhere. Besides, with the difficulties in global communication centuries ago, how could anyone sing in a dozen languages, or seamlessly merge different genres (that didn’t exist yet), or add various ethnic elements to classical or pop? Definitely, Dimash is the GoAT.

When the guy at the back said ‘horrible’ I think that was a bad translation. That singer is from a band called Lion. Dimash became great friends with them and Dimash sang on another show with them and Tia Ray who was the poor girl who had to follow Dimash on that first episode of I Am Singer when Dimash sang S O S which was a world wide you tube hit and the Chinese version of you tube (welbo) got 600,000 hits making Dimash a huge star in China. All the other competitors really loved him because he is such a humble and respectful guy.

I have always commented that reactors should begin with Dimash" appearance on The Singer 2017. I Watched all of it, and I did enjoy the other singers as well, but, they are not Dimash.

the funny thing is when he sang SOS as the first performance he did in this competition he made the internet crash when more than 600 million Chinese wanted to know who this guy was and why they never heard of him before.

No - Not an Alien. His mother says she DEFINITELY gave birth to him! He didn't arrive in a space ship! Yes- the planet has NEVER heard a voice like this in all of human history. Not 100 years. Not 1000 years. Not Ever before. He is pushing the boundaries of what the human voice is capable of, and inspiring many artists all over the world. Did you see all his co-competitors out the back there? They ceased to regard themselves as competition and became 'instant fans' - just like the rest of us! 🤣 Yes, this was one of several songs Dimash performed over the course of the 2017 Season of the Chinese 'Singer' competition, which, I believe, ran for around 3-4 months. Dimash is very close to his family, he was 23 at the time, and had not been away from home for so long before. Apparently he was very homesick. His parents both work and could not stay in China and he had his friend and Kazakh/ China Translator there, the guy who introduces him in Chinese. He didn't know his father had flown in to see him and was in the audience. Later he was worried, what his father thought, as he'd been quite, his word: 'Cheeky', { my word; ' Flirtatious'! } during this performance. Also, it looks like the make up artists had changed his hair and added make up to make him look more in a 'cute boy K-Pop type' style. You never see him use this kind of 'stying' again. Besides - he doesn't need to! All he needs to do is open his mouth and sing! 😄

I love your reactions to Dimash. Your joy in watching and listening to him is so evident. I would like to make one little suggestion. After you go back to the video after pausing, hit the left arrow key to restart about five seconds sooner. That way the continuity from the last note isn't lost. Especially when you don't know the song you sometimes stop in the middle of a really important note. Anyway, I look forward to more Dimash reactions. A big "thank you" from a Las Vegas Dear!
Thanks for another reaction. At the end when Jam said horrible (translated incorrectly) meant more like crazy/impossible. Sadly we will never hear this live as after this episode was broadcasted, Vitas the original Singer/Songwriter got his lawyers to write up a letter to cease and desist for Dimash from ever singing his songs again. Dimash is a very humble and sweet person. He's got 3 concerts lined up in the next 3 months and part of his proceeds is pledged to help the victims of the earthquake in Turkiye/Syria. He is known to talk about World Peace, spreading love, his love of country, family, and his fans. If you follow the Singer competition show, he sings the Show Must Go On next. His English then, was a bit rough around the edges, but I love it. Thanks again.

The song is about a guy who built a house and now lives all alone and sad in it ...listening to the howling of the wind outside ... This song belongs to the Ukrainian- Russian vocal clown Vitas. However, they forgot to ask Vitas. The people who hold the rights sued Chinese TV... unfortunately too late. The Chinese had already put it online and so it is on the Internet forever. Vitas (Vitaly Vladasovich Grachev, *1979 Latvian SSR is a Ukrainian- Russian pop singer who mainly sings in Russian. He is also a composer, actor and fashion designer. Dimash is indeed once in a century (probably more) talent, kind of like Einstein, Hawkings for science. It does make one feel just happy/lucky to live in this time and have a chance to appreciate it. Sidenote: That "horrible" thing is a mistranslation. It should be "stunning". The phrase is "Jing Ren" -- stun (every)human, but in chinese the first word stuns is the same as frightening and horrible, it's the second word that gives it context. It's a case of Google translate at its "best".
You've been dimashified! The only way to explain Dimash's singing is that he is beyond talented. His is unworldly a once in a lifetime singer. The best way I can describe the way he makes me feel is that he reaches inside you with his voice & raw emotions to actually sing & he touches your soul. I remember discovering Dimash & going down that rabbit hole he brought me to tears many, many times like no artist has ever done. Enjoy your journey with Dimash & if I could suggest one thing, please read his lyrics after listening to his songs. The lyrics of his songs are just as moving as the singing. You can't really read the captions while listening to the songs his voice will just take over & you'll miss the lyrics of the song, which are just as amazing. Ty for not rushing straight to recent Dimash performances. We Dears appreciate anyone that can fully experience the progression of his talents. Also, I feel these 14 performances of Dimash during the I Am Singer competition in China are the best of the best in terms especially of crowd reaction to Dimash. Say what u may about China but the Chinese people fully know how to connect with his performances and do so. The accompanying orchestra on that show is top tier talent as well. It totally compliments Dimash's talents. PLEASE do not overlook a performance from the same show Autumn Strong / Late Autumn. It is the first time Dimash ever sings in Mandarin to honor his Chinese audience there. He worried greatly that his pronunciation and accent would jeopardize the performance as he had only one week to learn a very well known song to the Chinese. I also feel it is the most emotional of any Dimash song he has ever recorded. He literally has his audience in tears as well as his competitors. Recommend the video with full song background and clips of Dimash preparing from the Gloria Wu channel. The translation is weak but better than nothing unless u can find a better version. This are his first steps for a global outcome. After that he started touring, and yet continued to extend his vocal range. You may choose to continue all the steps up to now or just jump in to how he’s grown vocally, his soprano voice an high notes was the beginning, now he’s showing his development in the low range as a tenor and all the shades between. He’s amazing. What ever you choose you will be amazed over an over.
If you want to see a difference in this song, you could look up Vita’s version. He wrote the song. He actually old Dimash never to sing Opera 2 again. Very sad. But after I heard Vita sing Opera 2 I realized what kind of jealousy was going on. Just thought you might enjoy a little of the backstory.
