My machines go straight into the washing machine. 5 laborious washes, drying and oiling. I love it, then I also understand the machines. A lot is also disassembled. The ultrasonic cleaning is also amazing. Everything shines like the first day in the sewing machine factory. And then they stand like in a gallery in my meticulously clean workshop.
When I was a little boy, my grandma worked as a seamstress and I can still see her today, half a century later, sitting in front of her old Singer sewing machine, operating the foot pedal. So, thanks for bringing me good memories. ❤️
What parts are you missing ? You should share a video of your machine if you still have it. They are pretty cool. I just bought mine and it’s on its way can’t wait it needs to be worked on though. Will know for sure when it gets here.
I hope that's not wd-40 you are using on her. WD-40 is not a lubricant. It's a water displacement, thus the letters W D. As it dries, it will gunk up the joints you put it on. Only lube I use at my work bench is Tri-Flow. Excellent product and recommended by several sewing machine companies.
I can well imagine that there would still be someone in 2121 who would restore a sewing machine from 1920. But is there someone else who cannot imagine, that someone will restore a 2021 sewing machine in a hundred years?
Well why not? The way things are going, economics may dictate restoration of older machines....There are many machines today that are every bit as well made as the old Singer 45k. (Juki 441 for example) that would easily last a century. Now, who knows if thread will be available in 2121.....Sewing may simply be obsolete.
Cool..I have the same machine as well as the singer 29k patcher you have in the background. My 45K25 came with a 2880rpm clutch motor that ran too fast,so am replacing it with a servo motor...Just about to mount the servo control box. I'm just looking at videos to make sure the belt is in the right place and the machine is threaded properly.. I haven't used my machines as yet. Thanks for sharing your restoration Mikko..Cheers from Sydney Australia.
Thanks Mikko,Canteens seem like an interesting project. So many things interest me but i may need a couple of lifetimes to learn them all. Nothing is as easy as it looks and things get complicated very quickly.I do love RU-vid though ,it is a huge game changer when used as a learning platform. I just had a look at your channel and you have some impressive skills.Your ropemaking Jig was awesome and it's obvious you're not just a pretty face. Again, thanks for sharing and all the best mate.
Que hermosa Máquina Singer. Trabajan muy bien. Aunque no tengo la economía para comprar una es mi sueño conseguir una igual a esa joya tan linda. Felicitaciones bello vídeo.
What model of 45k is this product? The 45k sewing machine leg seems to be made of thick iron like the original wheel you have. Is this sewing machine leg still available today?
Excellent restoration Mikko; what a find! Like many others, we have two old treadle Singers, with one relegated to the attic, and the other as a side table with potted plants adorning it. I am now inspired to restore the best of the two. Surprised the needle system is still available for your machine. Have you tried sewing any heavy fabric with it? Best, Vernon in West Vancouver
hello. I have a 45k56. Can I use it like you have? The presser feet of the two are different. Can I use 45k25 presser feet after removing the parts for the 45k56 vibrating walking feet?
Great video Mikko, I am looking for one myself. Do you still have this machine? How much do you think something like this machine sells for. Don’t see many of those around.
Hi Mikko, thank you for this video. I have one of these machines and need to clean it. Would you please tell me what you used to clean the body of the machine and what did you put on the leather to clean the needle ? The metal plate on my machine is a bit rusty, did you put WD 40 on fine fine sandpaper to clean yours ? Thank you again All the best Karen from Ireland
I mostly used just wd40 for cleaning. In tough places some mineral spirit. Cleaning rust is easy with 600 wet sand paper and wd40 or just water. For polishing needles, a piece of leather and some fine polishing compound, any brand will do. Thanks for watching.
Nice old machine.. I've got one from the early 50,s...it has the same style bobbin ( bullet shape).I have two other machines, But they don't have the power/ability to sew leather like the old girls do...
Oh dear!! The very thing I wanted to see and have explained and you fast forward through it!! I hope I can find a better video, freezing yours helps but it still doesn't show it in enough detail!!
Hola soy de argentina y tengo una maquina parecida singer 45k76 que hera para fabricar bolsas y la quiero modificar a talabartera quisiera ber el mecanismo de lansadera
@@mikkosnellman Then I put beeswax in and let the thread pass, but does it also act as a waterproofing agent? I bought the original oil box separately on eBay. So I'm going to use it. And when I turn the footrest underneath, I turn it counterclockwise, and if I make a mistake, it turns clockwise... . Is there a way to only turn it counterclockwise (i.e. only in one direction)?
@@mikkosnellman Thank you for quick response. I recently bought a 45k89. However, there is only one type of presser foot. So, it seems to be of little use. There's no way to solve this, right?
Sr..
