I don't know what to call this place. Singer Bluff? Singer Hill? The Bluff at 8th Street? Anyway, it's pretty.
This is a continuation of my binaural walking experiments. This time with an umbrella, as it was raining. I was holding the camera gimbal in my left hand while holding the umbrella with my right (I should have switched hands, but once I started, it was pretty much impossible to change). Still learning, but it's a gorgeous spot.
Camera: Moto X4 phone
App: Open Camera -- Video stabilizer on
Video Format: H.265
Focus: Autofocus
Bitrate: 40Mbps
Microphone: Roland CS-10EM
Recording device: Zoom H1 (old version)
Gimbal: Aochuan Smart XR
Video editor: Shotcut (I just synced the audio and video, and added fades. No other processing)
Audio impressions: Again, I like the binaural audio experience. The point where I'm looking at the top of the waterfall and then turn to look on the other side of the path, I could close my eyes and pinpoint exactly where the waterfall was. Still very pleased with it.
One slight issue is that wearing a mask with the microphones in my ears, sometimes you could hear me when I was breathing heavily. Not too bad, but something to consider in the time of mask wearing.
Video impressions: Turning up the bitrate took care of some of the issues. Unfortunately, now I'm getting a blurring issue when turning too fast. I think it was because of the limitations of the phone in low-light conditions. There were also a few lost frames, again because of the phone. These would probably be solved with a new phone, but that's not happening any time soon.
While the video wasn't perfect, the location really makes up for it!

It's one of my favorite places. Once I'm comfortable with my setup, I've got a longer route planned that incorporates this as one of the legs of the journey.

I was pleased with the results. I'm still working on the video aspects, but once I get that figured out, I'm going to figure out what mic sensitivity gets the most interesting sound, but it already sounds great.

The $70 is for the harness part that holds it right? The camera itself was a fortune I'm imagining?
@PacoWarabi
@PacoWarabi 3 года назад
There $70 is for the harness (called a gimbal), yes. The camera is my mid-range 3-year-old cellphone, the Moto X4. I think at the time I got it, it was something like $250 or $300. Not a bad price for a pretty decent phone that takes pretty decent video. I've been using it exclusively for my videos for the past couple of years. It can't compete with a $1000 iPhone, but since this is just one of my many hobbies, there's no way I could justify that cost.

I'm always sad to see human intervention around natural water. Like rerouting or things like that but this is actually very beautiful because the alternative would have been for them to pipe it underground and we wouldn't see it at all and that happens a lot especially in Washington. I don't think Washington has one bit of fried or empathy or anyting money is definitely 100% ruling! When they made the laws about you can't build on Wetlands well unless you have enough money to pay for it and then Anything Goes I get really angry when I think about it obviously. It affects are frogs which I adore. And of course if the frogs are affected then everything else is! Sadly enough last year I saw frogs swimming in mud puddles After the flood because they were built out of there wetlands there was literally a lawn with a sign that had the little flags that said it was just sprayed with whatever Chemical Company yeah there were frogs eggs everywhere in the lawn. The parking lots were being driven through by four wheelers it was heartbreaking because there was baby frogs everywhere and nobody could even go into the building they should have never been put there and it used to be such a beautiful place when I was a kid. Thank you for taking us to Natural places and then natural places that were at least done properly if they're going to build City over it. Again this is why I want to buy that place on the mountain. Working on it every second. Definitely need help. Take care and thank you

I feel like around here, people work with nature instead of against it. There are a number of paved roads in the area that during the flood times, they just have a gate they swing out that says "road closed," and they just let the road flood. They close those roads five or six times per winter, and in the summer they grow produce or hay. Why fight nature when it can be such a good friend?

@@PacoWarabi that's really neat. Washington has done such a poor job with everything. Enough that I'm moving 4 hours away from people and today was a good example of why we've been tormented by our neighbor with the threat of being harmed all day long and it's still going on right now at 1:30 in the morning so over 24 hours. Plus it goes on every day but there are worse days. Any Way Washington is just the shadow of itself. When I was a little kid it was such a neat place it was like a small town. People said hi to each other when they passed people took care of their kids. I'm sure there's exceptions but for the most part if I had a problem I can go into any of my neighbors houses without even asking if it was an emergency. Now people who live right next door to each other don't even look up to say hi. I grew up on somebody else's Farm property and there was animals everywhere. And then it started changing and that made farm that was built by hand and had river rock fireplace and famous people had done work in it while it was being built. Now has a bunch of Townhouses built there so I've been told I won't go look. I have to say Oregon has done a much better job at least of the part I've seen right now Washington's boarded up from the Space Needle all the way up past the courthouse and it's not just because of covid-19 cuz people are just walking in and taking what they want from people. I don't know how we're going to afford the solar I don't know how we're going to do the work but I'm moving to that mountain or I'm not going to be here at all

Aside from all of this dreary nice that I'm talking about I have to say your camera work is fabulous and I'm glad that you treated yourself to this equipment. I mean it was fine what you did before but this is quite a step up and it's different every once in awhile I would do a cellphone jungle video for fun. But I like this and I'm proud of you for being able to get it. I'm sorry I'm not caught up on your videos. If I need to smile I think of the birthday in the sand. What a cute video. Only way I rather be eaten by a bear or freeze to death and be hurt by these people they don't deserve it

@@gomezaddams6470 No worries about staying caught up on my videos. I hold no illusions that my videos are essential viewing. Watch them when you can. Or not. I have been wanting steady videos for over a decade. Some of my early equipment was steadicams made from PVC. This is just so much smaller and more effective, and cost something like $70. I probably spent that much on my PVC equipment over the past ten years!

That is a lot of rain!! Oregon gets more rainfall than Washington! It may be just Seattle and Portland. Rather than the whole state who's the guy. But I know Oregon does get more rainfall. Washington so ruined it doesn't matter

What a shame the landmark is populated by homeless trolls making it uncomfortable for normal people to enjoy. I was there today for a walk up the stairs and encountered 3 individuals. I was able to avoid the first one but the next couple gave me the creeps. Hopefully they remove them when we get nice weather. I've lived within about 2 miles of there for over 70 years.
