Ah, I remember when this came out as his first official solo song. Most solos Jimin had done as a member of BTS before this MV were all beautiful and soft or sexy (Filter) but still in a certain style with his vocals, his collabs had also been in a similar vein. So many people were expecting his solo album to be more of the same. Then he drops this. And the world of K-pop exploded. It is a work of Art, and truly showcased Jimin as a top tier performer. The haters came out in droves, and even quite a few ARMY were haters. I loved it though. I was in shock the first 30 secs and then I was sold. It has only gotten better with each watch. The song and the MV are so personal. It was from the heart and really spoke to where he was at and what he had gone through and triumphed over. Seriously, people did not give him the credit he deserved for that alone. Jimin wrote the lyrics and composed the music for all but the one interlude track (and even then he recorded a bunch of the sounds used - him running, him drinking, etc) for FACE (and he did all but one song of MUSE as well) and he has been heavily involved in the concept, design, choreo, MV direction, and pretty much every bit of both albums. They are so personal, which is my preference. Short albums but every song is a gem. Alone is a masterpiece but underrated as SMFp2 and Like Crazy are much more to the tastes of most people. Alone is something I listen to multiple times every day, it speaks to me, because it came from a dark place in Jimin’s life, a time when I was in a similar place, as were millions of people around the world, and he captured that in the music and lyrics that he wrote. You can feel it. What he felt. What I felt. What we felt. All captured within a single song. That’s a talent that not many people have. Jimin was given an opportunity and he grabbed it and has shined bright.
✨Jimin “Set Me Free Pt.2’, it’s everything & more then I could hope for, Jimin’s amazing artistry, his so beyond spectacular,, so mesmerizing, phenomenal performance! The song, Jimin’s vocals, his dancing, the amazing choreography, which aside from the two main choreographers, he had a hand in, offering suggestions, also the amazing backup dancers, the lyrics he wrote, the music he composed as well as being involved in the production, even the set design of the MV. Jimin was hands on, involved with every facet! No wonder the in-house legendary producer for BigHit Pdogg, who worked with Jimin throughout the whole album, stated that “in 2023 K-pop will be ended by Park Jimin”! Seeing this made me that much more excited, for the full album, Jimin’s “FACE” released last yr on March 24, along with his main song ‘Like Crazy’ MV. Jimin’s other songs “Face-Off” (trap beat, absolute fire), “Alone”(hauntingly beautiful vocals), as well as hidden track “Letter” (Jimin plays guitar, meaningful, heartfelt fan song, thanking army for their support), are all equally amazing! Though Jimin’s song ‘Set Me Free Pt.2’, blew me away , meeting all my expectations & then some, I was also not totally surprised, because indeed Jimin is now ‘set free’ from the confines of being part of a group, to now be able to open up full throttle and ‘finally’ be able to release all that he held back for so many yrs! Jimin has been involved in every facet of creating this album! Hands on all the way, perfectionist that he is, including writing lyrics, composing, as well as being heavily involved in production! Jimin’s true, real, inner self will be finally seen in all its raw, authentic, amazing, heartfelt, passionate, emotional, sincere glory! This is aside from Jimin’s full range, hardly ever being shown, aside from high notes, but being finally able to show his full registry, mid range as well as lower registry as well!. Often not being fully taken advantage of, but that comes with being part of a group, that has every single member having so much talent that it’s been limiting for Jimin, especially him being so selfless, making a point of having others shine before himself.
