Man, Now You are in near some Epicness! So proud of Finnish Metal! This is an Masterpiece by Jari Mäenpää! Drummer is Kai Hahto, now in Nightwish! Thank You!
Finally some Wintersun. The vocalist/guitarist Jari Mäenpää is both a musical genius & good vocalist given that he only has one fully functioning lung. The drummer, Kai Hahto, is now officially a member of Nightwish since July 2019. P.S. RVA is good looking & funny, but unfortunately she doesn't know nearly as much about singing/vocals as do e.g Beth from "Beth Roars" and Valerie White Williams from "Vocal Splendor Studios". P.S.S. Herman Li is the guitarist of Dragonforce. He might be fast playing scales but falls far behind Teemu Mäntysaari (the guy with the green guitar in Wintersun) in actually playing the guitar.
I also love Beth Roars. I'm subbed to her as well. I've had to stop watching them though unless I already know the song. It's tough because I love reaction channels but I know there's a lot of crossover content
Teemu is a beast, his riffs and licks sound monstrous, unique and tasteful. Apparently they can be quite difficult to play and get them sounding right as well.
FINALLY :D "Time" from the same session is even better imho. I also recommend "Lonliness (Winter)", Jari's voice and emotional expressiveness are absolutely stunning in this one. It baffles me how he can sing so well/powerful considering that about 30% of his lungs had to be removed due to TBC.
Finnish metal is the best metal of the world. Just like bands like a Wintersun, Children Of Bodom, Nightwish, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Evil Drive, Warmen, Elias "Evil" Viljanen, HIM, Apocalyptica, Tarot, Thunderstone, Raskasta Joulua, Jarkko Ahola, Sentenced, Brother Firetribe, Kenziner, Tarja Turunen. etc... Check all those bands because i bet you love some of them. Greetings Helsinki, Finland.
Good reaction and nice info. Jari Mäenpää is for Wintersun same than Tuomas Holopainen for Nightwish. Wintersun has published so far 3 albums. This was from second album. These live rehearsal video are 3. You could next reaction for one more this rehearsal session: Time. This second album name is Time I. Some day should come out album Time II. But when, nobody knows... These three rehearsal videos also shows Kai´s talent as a drummer. How good he really is.
People keep reacting to the Time 1album(this song especially, live rehearsal version) and Forest Seasons album all the time, when their first album is their absolute best material. Starchild, Battle against time, Death and the healing, Beautiful death. These songs are simply amazing, but the whole album is pretty much perfect.
Wow! How small the world we live in ! (equivalent of one popular Russian saying). I used to listen to Ensiferum and Wintersun some 10-12 years ago as well as lots of other heavy stuff. But yesterday your reaction to Dimash brought me to your channel.) Like your videos so far as you don't put yourself in confines of genres, keep doing that, man! Greeting from Russia! \m/
Bingo, you nailed it. However, e.g. Metal Storm labels them incorrectly as extreme power metal (www.metalstorm.net/bands/band.php?band_id=425&bandname=Wintersun)..
Melodic death metal already has folk (or, to be more precise, medieval\Renaissance era folk-ish music) elements incorporated in it, check out Dark Tranquillity and In Flames early albums (The Gallery, The Jester Race, Skydancer, The Mind's I and etc.)
Yes, thank you! Wintersun is such an epic band and they sound the same on stage. Here is a suggestion of two other Finnish bands if they are not yet reacted by you: Battle Beast's Black Ninja and Poets of the Fall's Carnival of Rust. Their singers do not need autotune either.
Great reaction my friend. Try the song "Loneliness" so you can see a different side of the band. Jari's a genius. Oh and btw, it's another long one, it's a Wintersun trademark.
You should really check "Wintersun - Loneliness", Jari's vocals have progressed A LOT since this live, you will be blown away trust me... They are still one of my favourite bands, give the loneliness a chance my man :) Cheers from Croatia
And also, just a quick fun fact, the vocal and guitarist (Jari Maenpaa) does all the music by himself, took him 8 years to write the Time I album (This song is the opener track on it)
The Dave Townsend comparison was guite fitting :) ..cuz Jari as well compose all the songs himself, all instruments but the drum, this are done by Kai Hatho. And u want to listen to other awesome songs by Wintersun? Just feel free and Pick one..u will not be disappointed. But m first recommendation would be "Time" or "Loneliness"
I hope you read this: So the original videos of the session recordings of Wintersun Time I were immaculately mixed - big expansive sound with a strong up front metal guitar tone backed with vocals and accented by synths. Jari (Wintersun vocalist/guitarist/producer) re-mixed them and over-produced them. This is sort of a theme of the band - over the top, and sometimes overly so. The other great live session recording is that of Time. The original mix is literally not on youtube due to copyright takedowns. Here is the original mix of the session recording of Time: www.dailymotion.com/video/x2vdq7j I hope this is your followup to this video. Again, the new mix absolutely doesn't have the same impact. This song is also much more clean vocal forward, and just as good if not better as Sons of Winter. Enjoy!
Great, honest reaction and such interesting info about the singing techniques! I know nothing about singing, but I'm a huge metalhead and find it super cool to learn about it, so thank you! :) Also, if you want some finnish melodeath to react to: Mors Principium Est - Reclaim the Sun
I might add that while these newer one's are just great, I mean great. The seasons album is good, but you don't have to listen to it, but a bit mellow stuff like ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wX-X7oX5Abc.html (straight from Jari's page). It was where it all started. Early 2000's. Just great music, not as aggressive than this, but still great music. We didn't know if we where ever to get another album, took so much time. But if you want something more mellow, check their first album Wintersun. Death and healing as I posted may give you the idea. No pressure, just wanted you to know that their first was great, at least one of my favorites. Doesn't melt your face away, but still great music.
Nice. Which Devin Townsend song got blocked? I dont think he blocked it because he shared a tweet showing his own video, with his own material was blocked for copyright. RU-vid is just crazy right now.
@@VerbalDroppings ahh that sucks. I remember watching your reaction to that too. I bunch of his other songs dont seem to have problems with blocking. He has even said in Q&As that he is totally cool with reactors and thinks it's cool people discover his music through them. Anyways loved this reaction and Wintersun are badass.
Rebecca the Vocal Athlete is your favorite vocal coach? Not mine. Yeah she is cute, but she is a crowd pleaser and avoids criticism, and generally looks into very popular artists: tries to make a popular channel to make money. If one is critical, you can easy alienate thousands fans who will never return to you. I rather follow a vocal coach that goes into details and is brutally honest and gives critical opinions too - they are not as popular, that's for sure. And same goes with people who react, too. I dig this song, and the band is very good. Vocal fry just isn't my thing, I find very few songs where I like it, and that keeps me away from Wintersun. But I do listen them too, every now and then, just to know.
@@VerbalDroppings I was sensing something like that. Just enjoy your voice, be he instrument, the messenger of music. Just there would be room for a Dwarf smith as a vocal coach :) Your style and that punch knuckle joke gave me a flash of the Dwarves in the Hobbit film trilogy. In the 12 of Thorin's entourage (the Dwarven leader if you haven't watched the Tolkien stuff) there's this one bald guy with long beard. He prefers a sledgehammer or axe in battle - heavy stuff. You look like his brother :)
@@VerbalDroppings Then you're almost as hopelessly nerdy as me. Well, here's some Dwarf metal for you, maybe you've heard, but here goes and kippis (Finnish for cheers or skol): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pNvtnd7hyQ4.html
THIS IS PROGRESSIVE DEATH METAL, NOT POWER OR BLACK METAL!....PLEASE RESEARCH AND UNDERSTAND. This band was precious...I am saying "was" because they lost their drummer years ago to, "Night Wish," another progressive metal, orchestral band. ....excellent vocals, check them out.
