Naya's voice & conviction here is everything. Rest in Love Naya. And Amber slaaaayyyeedd from first note lol. This is definitely one of my favorite mashups.
This is definitely one of the best duets and best mash-ups from the show. Naya and Amber's duets were always stellar. Everyone always recs Valerie to showcase Naya(Santana), and it is very good, but my favorite solo from her is actually Back to Black. Very underrated, imo. It's not a plot-heavy song, but she sounds so good. One of my other favorite mash-ups is I Feel Pretty/Unpretty from Lea and Dianna(Rachel and Quinn). Other recs: Paradise by the Dashboard Light(group), Cough Syrup(Darren Criss), Smooth Criminal(Naya and Grant Gustin), Bad Romance(group), Marry the Night(Adam Lambert!), Defying Gravity Season 5 version(Chris, Amber, Lea), Blackbird(Chris Colfer) is a personal favorite, and, of course, My Cup, the best of their original songs. Okay, I'm joking, mostly, about that last one, but the rest are all some combo of awesome, cool, and/or fun. Oh, and maybe one of the many, many times they sang Don't Stop Believin'? It was practically their theme song. I think I'd go with their Regionals performance of it.
The glee club knew she was a lesbian, but the rest of the school didn’t ‘know’. She & Finn were arguing loudly in the hall & he threw it out there. He really did tell that girl he thought Santana sang great, but she was so angry & scared she didn’t believe him. Her parents accepted her but her grandmother who she was very close to kicked her out of her home and refused to have anything to do with her. Incidentally, Santana/Naya Rivera & Finn/Cory Monteith have both died, Cory while the show was still on the air, Naya a few years later.
You should check out Paradise by the dashboard light, it's definetly the best group song. Other great group songs are The Scientist, We are young, Edge of Glory. For solos: My man or Roots before branches for Rachel (Lea Michele) Valerie or Back to black by Santana (Naya Rivera) Somewhere only we know or Cough Syrop by Blaine (Darren Criss) Ain't no way or Am i telling you by Mercedes (Amber Riley) Plus some good duets: Listen to your heart (Lea Michele/Jonathan Groff), So emotional (Lea/Naya), Somebody that i used to know (Darren/Matt Bomer), River deep, Mountain high (another Naya/Amber).
Oh you definitely need to check out Don't rain on my parade Santana's version. Santana is the one singing here and man those vocals on that song are worth checking out!
Someone else described it well in an earlier comment. To me that episode was memorable with both songs, choreography & the topic. Glee although the actors were seriously were legal adults playing teenagers (laws of hours for minors on set as well as content). Did handle variety of topics (homosexuality, suicide, anorexia, peer pressure, parent arguments, favoritism etc.). I watched up to the point where it transitioned majority of time to NYC. Murphy kept stating he wasn't going to keep the original cast in high school forever. But, he lost focus in my opinion on the Glee group. He changed direction to Rachel/Curt when they moved to NYC. I felt that should have been a spin-off. It weakened the entire show as the premise was Mr. Schuster returning to the Glee group to re-vitalize glee them. He, then slowly vanished & no longer was there. Murphy lost interest in the actor for whatever reason. (There were some actors he lessened through the years, Salling was one & the other was Diana Argon.) The existing glee group he seem half-interested in pursuing new storylines as the seasons progressed. Result, glee the new group those who were new coming in were faded to the background. Then when returned back to OH it was jumping the shark at that point. That cast became mannequins as focus was on Finn, Rachel, Curt & Blaine getting majority of the songs during remaining seasons. ] This episode was to me "Loose lips sink ships". Up to this point whatever typically was said in conversation was something done w/o worry anyone would be listening. (It's one of the annoying things been done in movies/TV shows such as conveniently no one overhears their conversations at restaurants, bathrooms, bars, planes, schools etc. Many times "I've" been sitting at a restaurant & can hear someone's conversation 2 tables away.) When she's brought into the office, I praise the support given. However, Murphy's flaw is not based in reality. It was poignant but sharing this situation w/ an external source as Curt's father wouldn't have been real, I don't know even why the guidance counselor wasn't there (she's Schuster's wife!). It did I think set the tone for the song & is necessary to see where the emotional buildup was coming from especially as she's passing her love interest Heather during the song. During the song Finn & Rachel were flirting w/ each other. Santana mistakenly thought he was telling Rachel about her being gay. There are some great mashups done on the show. Adam Anders and Peer Åström did great job of doing the arrangements. Some songs liked better than others. Either the original never vibbed with me or didn't like how revised. It happens. Mercedes/Naya were dynamite together. Whether it was later when in NYC doing a recording, or this song. I had really hoped they did more songs but again Rachel/Finn did most in beginning. What's unbelievable that Rivera was seen as a background character originally in 1st season. It wasn't until some issues with actor Mark Salling (Puck) did she get noticed & brought forward while Mark was floating to the back. (Sad how some people deconstruct.) "MY" opinions Murphy did 3 things wrong: - Started out w/ older songs then jumped to contemporary. Feel should have kept up with mix. Musicals of past many don't recognize now many in choirs/glee clubs do. - First it was Rachel, then Curt I don't have an issue. But turning Blaine into a clingy & insecure boyfriend I do. that first time saw Blaine, he was confident & self-assured. Why change him? - Messed up changing Will's character vanishing & not trusting his casting choices when the original members graduated. - As stated, they leaned too much on Rachel's NYC scene. That should have been a spin-off.
Some more things that went wrong: - Will doing way too sexual songs with the *kids* (or having a whole episode dedicated to twerking) - The episode where Sue obsessed over Kurt and Blaine (I mean, same, but that was just weird and creepy) - and I know Rachel is "the" main character, but still, the others should have gotten more Solos, especially from the OG Glee Club (up to Season 3 finale), I would have loved to hear more from especially Tina and Mike (mainly because I love Harry Shum Jr. and he barely had any solos)
Song Requests: Definitely the Smooth Criminal one and also Don't rain on my Parade (both versions, the one by Lea Michele and the one by Naya Rivera) and basically every performance by Amber Riley, especially Try a little Tenderness and I will always love you and Ain't no Way and I am telling you I'm not going (or whatever the name of that song is). Amber/Mercedes is THE best, while Lea/Rachel is of course amazing, her character is too annoying, and Naya/Santana also has such an amazing voice. Oh and not to forget Darren Criss/Blaine, maybe try All of me, Somewhere only we know and Raise your Glass. Warbler performances in general are always very fun to watch and amazing and from the competitions, there are also really great songs from the competing show choirs like Vocal Adrenaline. You also need to watch at least one song from "Unique", maybe Starships, idk, I just googled some of the best performances and said those I actually remember xD Chris/Kurt is also great, but I'm not as much of a fan of him, but maybe check out Blackbird and Don't cry for me Argentina. Also adding New York State of Mind to this list and also L-O-V-E (the last one just because I love Harry Shum Jr. and he is great in it) Glee has so many amazing songs and such a talented cast. The show itself is very cringe a lot of the time, but it's worth it for the vocals and as long as you don't take the show too seriously, it's great. I'm currently rewatching it and am on Season 5 (of 6) again In my opinion best singers: 1. Amber Riley/Mercedes Jones (the one who sang the Rumor has it part) 2. Naya Rivera/Santana Lopez (the one who sang the Someone like you part) 3. Jake Zyrus/Sunshine Corazón 4. Darren Criss/Blaine Anderson 5. Lea Michele/Rachel Berry (the one who sang It's all coming back to me now) 6. Alex Newell/Wade "Unique" Adams 7. Melissa Benoist/Marley Rose 8. Chris Colfer/Kurt Hummel (the one guy that sang in How will I know) 9. Cory Monteith/Finn Hudson 10. Chord Overstreet/Sam Evans (I had Sunshine at 5 first, but mostly because she has so few songs, so I put her a little higher, because I mean, she was so good, Rachel was so afraid that Sunshine was better than her, she sent Sunshine to an empty drug den and Sunshine then transferred schools, so if Rachel is so impressed by her voice, she must be amazing xD) It's really hard to make a list, because they're all so amazing and I didn't even include season 6 characters, because I don't remember them well enough. But basically, almost every single character in this show has an amazing voice
The other girl who song rumor has it was the one singing the chorus to someone like you at the end but they focused on the Latino girl because it was her moment in the story
There are so many amazing covers in this show. The whole Michael Jackson episode with Naya Rivera and the Cello’s and Man in the Mirror. The Scientist, To Love You More where Lea Michele holds the last note for something like 22 seconds. Please review more, you won’t be sorry!
Yeah, it was the guy at the end's fault (his name is Finn). I love Finn, but he's had some . . . questionable/problematic moments throughout the series, including outing Santana. It was mentioned in the beginning that the opposing congress candidate had a niece that went to the same school, and she overheard a conversation between Santana and Finn. Santana was being bitchy to Finn, and in retaliation he spun around in the middle of the school hallway and told her loudly that maybe she should just come out, that maybe she's so mean because she can't admit to everyone that she's in love with Brittany (another girl in the glee club; the camera focusses on her a few times during this song, the blonde girl).
Glee was really good about their mashups. This was definitely one the better ones. Also check out Singing in the Rain/Umbrella & It's My Life/Confessions.
