@MANGOES _ARE_LIGMA I knew what they were when I was like 12. Figured out the nastiest way possible too. I was in Ihop with the fam, and suddenly I turn to my right, and there was a big ol' red eyed cicada on my shoulder. Never screamed so loud. Dad told me it was the bug that makes that noise during the summer.
He is serious about that singing! I grew up with thousands of these things singing in the trees constantly in Mississippi. It's not truly a Southern summer without the cicadas ...
Also, at night I found out Katydids are those loud summer singers. They are singing back and forth to each other. The crickets and the tree frogs sing along with them making a summer night time orchestra--isn't Mother Nature grand?😊💕😊
Cicadas and katydids bring back childhood memories for me. So do cardinals, chickadees, blue jays, mourning doves, red-winged blackbirds, robins, crows, Canada geese and red-bellied woodpeckers! The frogs and crickets are just relaxing to hear before you head inside, lock up all your doors, roll down your blinds, turn on enough lights, never more light than you need, and either try to sleep, or instantly doze off when you’re seated in the kitchen or on your couch. Happened to me last night!

I live in Baltimore Maryland we have this species and another that makes the usual common Summer Cicada Locusts rattling. They come out every year starting in early mid-July and last until early mid-September. It's nice to see what they look like. 🙂
This has always beeb literally the sounds of heatwave to me since i was a kid because id always see the heatwaves off of car roofs i know its unrelated but i also felt likr the sounds were coming from the power lines or above them and up in the trees i guess thats whete they hide idk
The sound of my childhood growing up in East Texas. This was the song they sang in the late afternoon/evening. Very different from the lazy, lilting call during the day. Lots of nice memories.
Ok but I still don't know what is outside my window singing this annoying repetitive melody. I don't know if it's a bird or insect but it sounds like OOo oo oo oo oo. ooO OOOOoo. oooO OOOOoo. Sounds like an owl hooting but I have never seen an owl around when I hear it..
Thanks for posting! I only thought they made the REEEE continuous sound, never knew they could made that pulsing alarm sound. I just thought my neighbor's car alarm was going off every day 😂
little known fact cicadas produce two tones one is monotone while the other fluctuates it is also known as an overtone or a note that comes from nowhere. humans can do this to you can find a video if you search up tuvan throat singing
One of those flew into my kitchen. When we tried to knock it back out the door, it screamed so loud it was almost deafening. We didn't want to kill it, so it took a minute to get it out. Even though they're harmless, they freak me out.
Back in my day..Hot 100 degree Southern California weather...a few palm trees were filled with Cicadas! They either make a loud clacking sound or sound like a table saw cutting a board! Really ! And try to sleep at night with these damn things making a loud racket!!
Outstandingly enjoyable by nature how whenever a cicada in a good mood through sunlight he or she would begin whining through waist quivering as if their butt felt moving up & down amusing~ 🤭
