Cynthia Erivo is a legend. She won a tony, Emmy and grammy for her role on the color purple and was this close to get her egot this year since she was double nominated for harriet as best actress in a leading role and best original song and her performance at the Oscars is a must watch. Holy moly. She also helped benj pasek and justin Paul (the greatest showman, la la land, dear evan hansen) on some of the workshops they did for the greatest showman and if you watch those workshops performances (this is me) you can def spot her singing, is so good.

That's not a legend. Every EGOT won their egot for 4 different projects over 15+ years. Cynthia getting 3/4 major awards for one performance cheapens the prestige. Why is she winning for music television and theathre for 1 Broadway show? Also her continuing to disrespect our Black American Heroes and Icons for clout when she deems Black Americans as ghetto and worse is hypocrisy at its finest. She is not even in the vocal league of Jennifer Hudson, or Aretha, or Whitney, or Mariah or Gladys or Jennifer Holliday. So no she's not a legend

@@Alexp36500 Aretha said she can sing. At least on account of Erivos testimony. Erivo had NO BUSINESS playing Aretha. Disrespecting her direct wishes and legacy. The entire Franklin family boycotted the series for many reasons.

It was recently announced that Cynthia will be playing Elphaba in the upcoming movie version of "Wicked" so we can now imagine her using that powerful voice to sing gems like "Defying Gravity" I'm really looking forward to that!

She is amazing at what she does. With already having a Grammy, Emmy, and a Tony to her name, and being nominated for an Oscar or two, that's pretty cool. Also it's pretty neat that she's only in her early 30's and already achieved so much. I mean to achieve these things at any age no matter who you are is amazing, but to be younger and this talented already, I can't wait to see where she goes from here.😊

Another one you should check out is Jennifer Hudson doing her version of this song at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2010. Jennifer did it the year they were honoring Oprah Winfrey (and others) who helped produce the stage production of The Color Purple on Broadway and was a supporting actress in the 1985 movie of it. I had always assumed the squatting/bending was assisting her, but I was not aware of the precise "mechanics." She has of course nailed that part without squatting but those times were at concerts. So is it likely that she does it for reassurance or safety? (What with having used her voice for nearly 2 hours straight.)
