When straightening one arch only, it’s important to remember that it also affects the other dental arch. Why? Think of it this way: you need both arches to eat or speak, they work together, interlocked in function. Our mouth is just like a box, if we change the size of the lid it may not close properly! So, as one arch changes we also need to consider how all the teeth will work together.
Teeth are generally misaligned when there's a spacing issue: too much space creates gaps in teeth; too little creates crooked teeth. Aligners exist to help adjust the available space and improve arch shape.
