Real Men Real Style I'm partial to single monk, and went w vintage ones , one a made in USA Johnston Murphy Aristocraft with a larger strap, the other A custom [I believe] of unknown origin [all the writing in the shoe I cannot read the language or script, I suspect middle East incredibly well made, with a very small strap and cap toe w brogueing, both are old so they use working straps. The vintage American made shoes can be a phenomenal value, florsheim imperial, HS Trask, and Hanover [especially LB Shepard signature line), are every bit as nice , comfortable , and seem as well made as most in the std AE lineup.

Single monks are my favorite shoes. Sleek and elegant. I wear no break hemmed pants so double monks show both buckets and can look very busy.

Great video Mr. Centeno. In my opinion, both the single and double-monk strap are incredibly versatile; the single-monk strap being slightly more on the dressier side. I own a pair of dark brown single-monk straps with crocodile imprint (made in Italy), absolutely love them.

double monk is where its at i have a couple pair of double monks, i get the most compliments on my shoes when i wear my double monks. couple weeks ago i was at a bar with my buddys playing pool and like these 5 younger guys were looking at me and i overheard one of them saying "man i like that dudes shoes"

Paul Evans rock, great shoe, sick discount Antonio - oxblood is a great choice. I prefer the double strap, as the single can sometimes look too "elf" shoe like...but I do own both. Another great video.

I bought a pair of single strap monks years ago, before the internet made them popular again. That they were actually leather shoes with a buckle was the seller. I've had them for years and miles, so I have a relationship with them. If I were buying today, I would probably go for a double straps because they're available. But it's a very individual thing because of how subtle the differences are.

I've always preferred double monks, primarily because the shape of the leather strap is simpler and more elegant in my opinion - I don't like the way the lower leather strap is partially uncovered in single monks.

*If you have feet with a high arch or instep, or have wide feet and want to buy a pair of monk strap shoes, make sure you try them on before buying them. This means that you should not just order your usual size online and expect them to fit you like a glove - chances are that the strap that closes across the instep and fastens gets too short!*

Double Monk is the more casual shoes compared to single Monk. It sits only below the Oxford in formality.

I don't agree that the single monk is less formal than the double monk. The single monk is a very established look in Europe (made popular by royalty) and has been connected to formal dressing for many decades. I hardly see anyone dressing down single monks, whereas I see very often (and I do it myself) use double monks with dark jeans. Double monks have yet to establish themselves and only time will tell, since they are a fairly recent trend.

Petko Stoyanov leathers should match and hence no. And I think it's hard to find to find a good quality oxblood belt.

I would say match the shoes and the belt if it's a suit but if you're wearing casual wear, the shade of brown should be close to burgundy.

Prefer double monk and just got one from Allen Edmonds, like Paul Evans very much too but it only has one fitting shop in NYC, for people not living in US and not travel to NYC by any chance, have no choice to give up.

Sorry, but "elegant" is never meant to be more complicated. The single monk is sleeker because there IS less going on, and more of the actual vamp is showing. That makes it more elegant. The double is very trendy, meaning popular (for now). They look bulky, even very expensive ones. Single is wonderful but double is good casual shoe.

For me, the main question regarding the double strap is: would this accommodate use in an ankle-length boot? Because that's my default shoe pattern, and I don't think that one strap would do it. So if that's out, then monks probably are out for me, too.

Having tried the double monk, I would go for the single monk. It makes you stand out from many others who wear double monks. (0:55-1:00) I thought the single monk was somewhat more formal than the double monk (or so it was said in an earlier monk strap video on this channel)...

I got a pair of Allen Edmonds Warwicks in Oxblood. They're single monk shoes, but I love them. Wear them with nice dark jeans. I always get compliments. Personally I always find double monks too dressy.
