I don't use the single basket a lot, but I wanted to make a video with it. In the comments of my other videos, there were some friends who asked how to make espresso with a single basket. In the video I make two espresso shots with 10g and 11g coffee. Espresso ratio is 1:2. The grinding is the same setting I use in the double basket. The inner burr is set to level 5, the grinding size is level 3.
The biggest difference between the two shots is the shot duration. 10.5g of coffee beans can be used to make a better shot of espresso. You can specify your questions and suggestions in the comments. Enjoy watching.

Thank you for the upload. I've never really used my single basket. This makes me want to try it out! I see it takes a couple tries to dial in the shot.

Hello my friend. It's good to set a reference point when starting an espresso shot with a single basket. I decided to continue with the same grinding. this way i eliminated one of the variables. You can start by trying to make a single shot of espresso with the grind size you used for the double basket. For the first shot, you can use a dose of 10.5 g. There is a great taste difference between a double basket and a single basket. I think this is because of the basket form. When tampering with the single basket, I think the middle of the basket is not tampered tightly. Perhaps you will have different experiences than mine. 😊🙌🏻

The puck on the second shot looked more uniform compared to the first. I'm looking forward to trying this and tasting the difference between the two baskets! I as well use wdt with more needles and it helps in distribution. I'm still using my spouted portafilter. I may be looking to purchase a bottomless here soon to see where I'm at with channeling!

@@damianhbk1 Hi Damian. The machine is backwashing after espresso shot. In the meantime, unpredictable movements occur in the basket due to the pressure and the puck may deform. Actually, it may not be right to comment by looking at the puck, but I would still like to see a clean puck. I think you can get used to the bottomless portafilter in a short time because you are used to making coffee with your machine. It takes the espresso experience to the next level. 😊🙌🏻

Just want to say how high quality this was. Nobody with a breville mentions the inner burr setting when showing grind size... I also love the idea of using the infusion pressure as the shot pressure. Single shot is certainly a different beast to dial in.

The second shot looked better, but if I were you I would have kept the dose the same but ground a micro step coarser, or as an alternative I find when I grind slightly too fine I can usually just use a paper filter on the bottom of the portafilter and a puck screen on top will help the water flow better and also help speed the water flow. All in all it looked deliciously good, but the bitterness is over extraction I think. Shoot for a 3-1 ratio in 25-35 seconds at 96°c and 6 second pre infusion(medium/dark roasts) and you'll unlock flavors you never knew were there :) Happy pulling!❤️

Great advice! I'll try the ones mentioned here and I've already started trying some of them. You can see better extractions in my new shorts videos. Actually all the settings are almost the same but the puck screen made a big impression. Ratio 1:2 Extractions in the range of 25-35 seconds are delicious. I have to admit that I found the most balanced flavors over 30 seconds. I will be happy to test your suggestions. All these comments are valuable for anyone watching the videos. Thank you, "Happy pulling!" I like this saying.

@ahmeterginkarahan

Try grinding a little finer than the coffee grind size you use in the double basket or don't bother with all that, in my opinion the best extraction is 18g/36g 😊🙌🏻

@@ahmeterginkarahan Hey, thanks for the reply! I try to avoid being over-caffeinated, so I've been practicing pulling single shots. I did ground thinner and it barely flowed.. By the way, I'm also looking for a distributor. Can't believe the one you use is of such a reasonable price. I was looking at V shape ones. Wonder it will even do a better job. I do use the WDT tool.
@ahmeterginkarahan
@ahmeterginkarahan Год назад
@@sciencescience9102 I always help my subscribers, you can always ask questions 🖤 Your espresso flow is dripping, you will need to speed up the flow. In this case, you need to go for coarser grinding. As far as I understand, the single basket dose capacity you use is 9g. If you wish, you can search for different baskets produced without a machine. I'm sure you can find a good IMS brand basket. I bought the distribution tool I use from Aliexpress. It is a cheap product, but it is sufficient in terms of weight, it does its job. I haven't tried the V-shaped one. 🙌🏻☺️

I am very curious... Since I do all the things I normally do when setting up a big machine for gastronomy but it doesnt work. The flow was too fast with 10g and grind more on the fine side. I then weighed in 11g and put in about 20 kilos of tampering (i testedy 15kg multiple times on a dare so pretty vonfident in my tamper) and put it to grindsize 3 so quite fine. Now the espresso takes about 7 seconds to flow but then flows quite fast, (austrian) americano style, despite having very high pressure.... So cant be classic underextractiom... Do I have issues with channeling?

@ahmeterginkarahan Год назад
First of all, I recommend using an 18g dose in an unpressurized double basket. Your grind size may not be correct, you may need to adjust the inner burr to find the correct setting. Check out my video; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pUiY_bPMr6o.html I recommend trying to keep the pre-infusion time long. In this way, you can achieve good extraction with pressurized water after the coffee is thoroughly wet. I show it in this video; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-70UGUBaHCMM.html

@@ahmeterginkarahan Thanks mate!!! I found a video on this today and as you pointed out, inner burr was wrong with being set to 6. I was thinking its crazy, bc cofe flows like being very coarse despite the outside setting being 3 I compensated with putting 11g into single and 21 into double basked and tampered a bit harder. So thats why it came out slowly first and then fast despite high pressure....

@@ahmeterginkarahan True. As for milk frothing: Is it possible to get propper steamed milk for latte art with this machine? I did practice a lot with soapwater and tried out a lot but ffs i am not able to incorporate the foam even with a fast rotating long vortex. This machine was a present from my family bc they know how passionate I was at my old job over latte art and I am very very grateful and is more than anything I would ever ask dont get me wrong... But damn, is it sad that the Pro has some lot bigger muscles for steaming and would cost only a bit more... Which I would gladly pay out my pocket.... Bc i really enjoy making latte art but I almost always get the foam sitting on top.... Fine foam as it should be but no way to incorporate and so very thick undefined latte art Probably a curse that thus far I only worked at very high end machines.... So of course I am probably more picky than I should be.... But thus far wands did the job in about 15 seconds and since being so powerful they perfectly mixed the microfoam into the milk.

Looks like your dose was too much as your puck had the shower screen imprint on it . And usually the pressurised basket is for pre-ground coffee . The grinder makes the coffee and on these it's well documented they are poor )

Hi, 10g dose was missing and 11g dose was too much. I agree with you. For the same grind setting, 10.5g of ground coffee could have been a better shot. The opposite is true for pressurized baskets. In an espresso shot using a bottomless portafilter and an non-pressurized basket, the espresso will flow directly into the glass. It is considered to be a better method for this. I would like to examine the source of information that proves otherwise. After all, what we all want is a good espresso. Thank you. 🙌
