I've always suspected that double sided were ideal for shore lines and single sided from above, but it was nothing more than theory. Thanks for giving us the up close evidence, it was very insightful.

Something I’ve seen elsewhere with single sided magnets. Slide a funnel over the line prior to attaching the line to the magnet. Helps keep the magnet from snagging while it’s dragging along.

I find that it helps to instead of steadily pull the single sided magnet, pull in small quick jerks upward so the magnet hops up and lands with the powerful side facing the ground.

Great demo. I have a bridge nearby that also has a boat ramp. They recently pulled a 15 year old VW out of the river. 😮 sent divers to look for bodies before pulling it out. But I think it had been stolen many years prior (maybe joy riding) and pushed down boat ramp.

That's why I use double sided magnets, because I throw out, then drag back towards me. If I ever decided to magnet fish a lot of bridges, then yeah I would go get a single sided magnet, to use for only bridges.

@John Doe not necessarily, it is good for starting out, but a double sided magnet is actually split between the two sides a 1200 lb double sided is really only pulling 600 lbs on either side. So it's hard to get a really strong double sided to use for drop down fishing

damn, wish i had thought of looking this up before buying the dual sided one. i thought the magnet was faulty bc it was clear the magnetic force was coming from the circumference, which was sealed with glue and a layer of metal. this video is super helpful, thank you!!
@taurushipointenthusiast1306
Well I got 1 each Single is 250 pound pull and the double is a 750 pound pull 66 feet cord came with both so there is a total 132 ft tethered 1 on one side 1 on the other. But this video is proof I did the best of both. But yes education is always awesome new sub

however from experience, single sided seems to work better because as it is pulled, it moves things in the ground to "dig up" items so to speak. Anytime I've used the double sided, it seems to knock off items when I've felt them attach if I'm dragging it when it comes across trees or rocks. I've had way more luck with single sided when using both in the same area.

Yeah but which magnet is better from a much lower bridge that you're going to sew it way out to the side and pull it back in.... What about that? My mom wants to get me a magnet fishing kit for Christmas and we were looking over them last night and I just don't know what to get. I want the 360 ones but they're all too expensive. I also want a good brand not a way expensive one but I don't want to end up with a cheap one either.

I heave an idea how to fix the issue with the single sided magnet, in short just use something that can float at the surface like plastic balloon or like the gallons for Gass to help the magnet facing downward but you can pooling it back to you and you can fix it in this way easy. 😊

I unfortunately bought a 2000lb single side and noticed it does drag upside down like 85% of the time..l just bought the 3600lb Brute double side..have not used it yet but DAAAYUM IS IT HEAVY! I am considering trying to attach a tennis ball/raquet ball or a big fishing bobber to the eye of the 2k lb single side with a 1/2"-1" rope attaching it..l think this SHOULD do the trick to keep that single side DOWN. I honestly am blown away by the Brute 3600lb magnet..it's VERY stout! I don't think l would buy another single side..the dual side eliminates any benefit a Single might have..which are none from what l see..

Thanks for confirming what I thought of the two types of magnets. I prefer the double-sided myself. I also think having a giant two thousand pound pull is overkill, what do you think?
