Any ship sinking is a sad thing. This is sad. Period.

Even though everything seemed to go as planned for it's scheduled demise, it's still incredibly sad to watch this tug (or any other ship) sink.

And suddenly you recognize that you forgot your phone inside...

Great to see a vessel serve the ocean in a new way, be a home for marine life; which is sorely needed, and generate income from scuba divers. Seems like a win win and not a waist.

This tug looks similar to the first tug I engineered, Tug Tilly, which is also on u-tube. Tilly was a WW 2 army tug V8 GM 567. When I worked on her she was named The Lewis No. 8 For Eklof Marine. The government built Hundreds of them, in the Harlem river.

Cool! I like the underwater shots. The comments thinking you could recycle this old ship are misinformed, artificial reefs are a good use for these ships, better than sending it to some shithole breaking yard.

Before any boat or ship becomes intentionally sunk for an artificial reef, you better believe the owners have wrested every single penny's worth of use or profit from her. Old tugboats like this one are really only good for razor blades once the useful metals and other materials are stripped. You may mourn this an an undignified end for a work boat of this type but it isn't. In fact any ship that isn't turned into soda cans deserves a fitting burial at sea and continued life providing enjoyment.

Titanic wasn't built to be unsinkable. She was built to be as safe as possible, but it became an overused slogan to call her "Unsinkable", which she proved she wasn't.

On this video he actually explains what he is doing and why and people are ranting where there are videos where they just sink the thing without explanation and people understand those videos. WTF!!! The problem with old tugs is, the engines are very large and below deck. There very likely worn out in this day and age, so it's cheaper to replace than rebuild.. It takes a restorer who likes old boats, without the restorer, the boat ends up in a reef.. It's a complete waste and just an attraction for tourist divers.

We have a tug in the Bahamas if you would like to buy her to sink. She is called the Ocean King. Single screw tugs can no longer be insured

Actually its not. Usually older equipment lasts longer than the cheap shit they make today i mean look at the ships on the great lakes some have been sailing for about 80 years and one for a 106 and they are still going strong.

Why waste the tug instead of seeing it be sent to the bottom and waste money buying another one

I never understand this, if I dragged this beast to my local scrap yard they would probly give me bout 5 grand for it in scrap metal

You are overreacting and being irrational. Nuclear waste is disposed of at controlled dumping sites in the ocean. It is monitored from the point the material touches water to the moment it hits the seabed. The waste material does no damage to sea life; the water is so dense and heavy that not even gamma radiation will escape a radius of 100 ft. Scuttling a boat (once drained of all chemicals) is a great way to promote reef growth and marine life. They're also good diving attractions.

Artificial reefs are created where man has destroyed the natural reefs due to pollution or other manmade causes of reef destruction which include climate change.If you don't want old tugs or other boats and ships sunk to create reefs, go buy them. Then you can spend the ten thousands, hundred thousands, and possibly millions of dollars or more and years to refurbish and make sea worthy.
