@@theothersamb2320 My friend plays Ork and he literaly has a small bucket filled with excactly 60 dices for his infantry hitrolls (30 models with 2 shots each, plus "Dakka Dakka" =one mor hitroll for each Nat. 6)
I have a set of d6s I bought for Roll for Shoes that would suffice (I usually use them as random tokens now). I need to start playing a character that uses a ton of d6 just to use them now.
Haven't played at a table in so long that I don't even know where my dice are. Roll20 just factors in the effects of criticals automatically, though, so we don't have to wait around while someone figures out how many dice to roll and then tallies up the results; we just give a brief "Eyyyy!!" When we see the Crit and click for damage. It's not the same, but it's more efficient.
Fun Fact: Brennan said that the Sugar Plum Fairy had ONE single spell slot, and that spell slot was a 9th level spell slot that she was about to cast Wish to regain all hit-points lost to herself, until SOMEONE GOT A FUCKING NATURAL 20.
The sugar plum fairy had more than one total spell slot because she casts other spells in this fight but she indeed had one 9th level slot that she was going to use as you said.
the Dm duality: Sheer pride and happiness on behalf of your player absolutely pwning this boss- but the absolute heartwrench that is seeing your cool boss enemy get folded like a pair of jeans
The thing that stung the most for Brennan was that he was about to use the boss’ last spell slot to cast Wish and restore all the boss’ hit points, but Siaoban beat the hit points needed to kill the boss.

I agree that DnD rocks but there are plenty others that have fists fulls of die to roll and, if we're talking actual storytelling, wildly deep and different systems for building amazing stories. There's so many cool TTRPGs out there and from this comment I can't help but think you haven't explored the vast array very much yet. (I have a soft spot for systems where die rolls can explode because it's like... how far can this go?)
@@micanikko Ah if you watch the campaigns, you will see. She has consistently good ideas and uses spells very creatively. They all do, but I always think Siobhan makes great use of all her turns in combat.
yeah, players really don't realize how impossible it is to create an encounter that's challenging without the chance of a TPK. if the monsters in a balanced encounter get multiple nat 20s, they can generally easily kill the entire party. if the players get multiple nat 20s, they can generally easily kill the monsters. I ran an encounter that was supposed to be pretty difficult for my party with literally 8 enemies against 4 players, and the players swept them because almost every single roll by the monsters was under their ACs, even with pretty decent dex modifiers. Multiple dice got sent to dice jail, to no avail.
@@n3onvalkyrie936 good to know! I've never actually played in a campaign; I've only DM'd so sometimes I feel that I'm missing the player's perspective. I'm actually about to run a really rough dungeon with my party with a lot of dangerous monsters with interesting abilities, since they've been shitting on me for not running a "real" dungeon yet lol. I've been nervous about the fact that there's a chance they'll die, and player death is often seen as the DM's "fault," so I hope my party has the same opinion as you lmao
@@jamienagel5195 It's a new rule in Tasha's, the miles is based on 1+your Prof bonus. It's weaker early game but you eventually get a 14 mile diameter by tier 4.
@@Fyreflier which was bullshit, because fall damage is capped at 20d6 and Keyleth had more than 120 HP at that time. The fall should not have killed her, and Matt should have been immediately called out by his players for his flagrant disregard for the rules.

The point of D&D is not to follow all of the rules to the letter, it's to create a story that is entertaining and makes sense. 2. If each 10ft height gives a D6, that would make 20D6 roughly 200ft in the air. Are you saying that someone who falls 200ft should take the same damage as someone who falls 500ft? 1000ft?

Essentially what happens when a player scores a lucky roll and combines with such a magnificent build that it completely obliterates whatever enemy the DM set up and he's unprepared for it.
As a Guardsman, I can firmly say that I have to use dice buckets as well. Also, my ork friend one time rolled about 300 dice in one attack. It hurt. A lot.
I remember playing a Deathwatch campaign and my Marine kept rolling righteous fury to the point by single turn of combat took 5 minutes just to roll all of the dice and calc all of the damage.
Hilariously, Brennan later revealed in this episode's Adventuring Party that, had the Sugar-Plum Fairy made it one more turn, she would've healed a *ton* of her damage.
I love this fight because it's just... it's just a brutal fight. If I remember correctly the baddie never calls for any help and is just kicking ass the whole time. Starting off with a fucking brutal cold attack (that got counterspelled) that would have hit the entire party. A kick-ass enemy.

That reminds me of an epic moment during a game. My rogue cleric spent his action to stabilize a dying ally. Another character was a Battlemaster and used Distracting strike followed by Commander's strike. My character rolled a natural 20. With 16d6+4d8, I had to borrow some dice.
My last campaign was almost the exact opposite of this. We were fighting the last boss and i got a scroll of metronome which is basically a scroll that does something random and when I used it it true polymorphed me into a dragon turtle and when I went to attack the boss i ended up rolling a Nat 1, then he rolls a Nat 20 while using all his special abilities and he one shots me out of dragon turtle polymorph before i could even actually do anything. Then once I'm back to being just a sorcerer i proceeded to miss literally every attack i made for the rest of the battle other than getting the last shot on the boss when he had 1 up left. We ended up winning but the dm calculated the chances of that happening and he said it would be around 1 in 4000. Ever since then my wife actually believes me when I say the men in my family are cursed with unluck.
He's not sighing because of the nat 20 he's signing because he's letting her pour every resource she has into her attack after she learned it was a crit.
According to another comment, Siobhan did 59 damage when she needed to do 52. 7 damage more than necessary with all those dice? The boss definitely could have lived if the dice rolled even slightly worse, and the Wish spell said boss was going to use _anyway_ would have erased all that progress.
I am a veteran DnD player and I have no idea what quadruple green flame blade means. She also didn't seem to factor that into her dice so I truly have no idea.

@@yooooo8600 Green-Flame Blade is a Cantrip (0-Level) spell that adds fire damage to an attack made with a melee weapon. It also damages any enemies within 5ft of the initial target. This damage scales with your overall character level. The critical hit gave her quadrouple the amount she would normally roll.
The face a DM makes when he thinks, "Shoot, I did NOT give these guys enough health.......well he's not bloodied yet, so I'll just yeet another zero on the end there."
Green flame blade is a fun spell. It’s a sorcerer cantrip and along with hexblade, and Pact of the blade, makes a spellsword, “one handed swordplay with combat magic” build actually possible and really fun.
I love moments with big nat 20s like this. I've only had one moment like this myself, playing in an absolutely rediculous lvl 20 oneshot where we had to kill Garfield. Yes, Garfield. I built a sorcadin to play, tried to get a crit the whole game, and finally got one. 1st attack (crit) = 4d6 Slashing + 4d6 Fire (Flame Tongue Great Sword) + 6d8 Thunder (GFB) + 10d8 Radiant (Smite) + 8d6 Necrotic (Magic Tattoo) + 11 + 20 (aasimar), 2nd & 3rd attack = 2d6 Slashing + 2d6 Fire + 5d8 Radiant + 11. All in all rolled 50 dice + 53 for about 250 damage. Party members knew my build was supposedly busted, but were like "wtf is this, 4d6+3d8 per attack is good, but not *crazy* for level 20 and magic items" until I rolled that crit and hit with all three attacks in one turn. Yes I know it's dumb to do this, but it was a lvl20 oneshot where we were killing *Garfield.* Only reason it existed was because our normal DM couldn't play and the day before I by chance found a Garfield stat block someone made. It ended with us killing Garfield, Jon *becoming* a second Garfield, and subsequently entering a never-ending fight with me (Layman)

@@paullatham8486 well, Garfield had... Ascended. There was no longer a cat, but rather Garfield had turned a large warehouse into his lair by *becoming* the lair. He did still like lasagna, though (there were about 400 mouths he could eat it with), and we actually did distract him with that create feast spell and a nat20 charisma check, dedicating all the food/drink the spell creates to lasagna.
Oh this is the BEST feeling. High level rogue with a rapier that gives me a bonus sneak attack die rolling a nat 20. I was barely able to get the dice I needed from the table.
I’ve done that on a 5th level smite, plus holy weapon, path to the grave and booming blade as a level 12 character, all on a demi-lich in its lair that was supposed to be a big bad and one shot him, my dm tried really hard to kill me the next few sessions.
In old school Marvel Superheroes, I "crit" (red effect, rolled a 98 on a d100) on the DEVIL and he crit failed (rolled a 1 on a d100) and I knocked him out with a single blast. Not the same system, but you get the idea.
I don't speak nerd, but when I saw the IT guy all flustered and I saw the world's-happiest-property-lawyer holding all those dice I knew it had gone in her favour 😊
I had a similar experience in a different game in the big boss fight I had my character use all of his resources on an ultimate strike and I crit I needed every single d6 at the table plus some from the DM. I DM just had to laugh as I rolled nearly 30 d6. Safe to say the boss was ultra dead and got cut into roughly 16 pieces before you could blink.
Brennans competitive side slipping in dimension 20 is so funny because he truely is an amazing dm but has to fight his inner demons to maintain the status
Reminds me of a session I played... I had rolled a needed Nat20 for my Lv16 Paladin on a major boss. Now, I had some busted homebrew equipment at the time, and it brought my stats on the attack way up. 4d6+5d8+2d6(radiant from armor)+2d6 (weapon effect, fire)+9 (for strength modifier, from a gauntlet's effect). Rolled 76 total... and this was only the first swing.

Nat 20 is pretty OP. I mean my party was about to be annihilated; my friends were all downed (and dying) and I was barely standing with little HP left. My final attempt of survival was to persuade the enemy Swordsman to leave us alone and he agreed (rolled a Nat20). That Swordsman was supposed to be the final boss of that sessio btw.
Green flame blade only applies spellcasting modifier to the second enemy hit from its conditional targetting, it wouldnt apply to the initial target unless homebrew rules or shes somehow a level 14 bladesinger, 7 rogue and 3 battlemaster or possessing of the battle initiate feat. Otherwise though, clutch critical
I forgot I had this short cued up and unlocked my phone to the sound of rolling dice completely out of context before the screen popped on and was EXTREMELY scared of what I was about to see
I used to play warhammer tabletop, and it's an experience going hey, here's 50-60 rerolling attacks/shots, and wounds... take 40-50 saves... and just seeing a sea of dice.
