Since Reborn Grenadier also summons when you discard it, it counts twice for Sion’s level-up. Ideal turn one, with Poro Canon and triple Grenadier in hand, you can immediately get 15 points towards level-up. Almost half the requirements done instantly. Which… y’know, probably not necessary to turbo-level like that given he can’t come out until turn seven, but still fun to think about.
Rather than poro cannon theres a 2 drop focus spell that summons grenadier as well at +2. One drop of this with grenedier at hand will trigger 11/35 already
Imagine, 1. U attack with leveled up sion and activated the last breath effect 2. U got the token, and attack with returned sion 3. Before he strike,u cast go get it on him, u get the token again and 0 cost returned sion 4. Before play the returned sion u have attack token, attack first with other unit 5. Play the returned sion,get the attack token again Thats actually 5 attack token at the same round OMG !!!!!!!!!!
@@KotushkFier666 Yes, instead of "summoning a copy and recall", it "grants ephemeral and create a copy in hand". Its super wierd too because when it was first introduced it was working properly, but then one patch it became bugged like that. You can notice this also on Lissandra decks, where using Go Get It on a pillar won't refill mana or count towards lissandra's level up

I think that our boy Grapplr is missing a key interaction that happens with Lady of Blood. For instance, if you are playing a SI Sion deck, that I Will be surely playing day one, you get to discard two units at the same time. You discard one, it creates a fleeting copy that also gets discarded by the end of the turn. Since fleeting also counts as discard. You can dicard two units at one turn for turbo level SIon and more likely hit his level up by 6 without doing something with the fleeting itself. For instance, lost soul can generate two units out of a single discard.
Yeah, like he said, some combo potential in a Sion deck, but it is a build around. Can't just chuck it into an aggro deck like what the rest of the kit is shaping up to (b/c those stats are horrible for aggressiveness), need to go a more midrange or dedicated combo route (God, I really hope we can build a Noxus midrange deck with these). Regardless, I dig the art, hope it has some interaction voicework with the crimson cards (apparently this is the mum of the Crimson Aristocrat, and I am starving for anything even remotely tangential to Vlad ;-;
I think that the challenger on Twinblade is actually amazing for the type of deck I see Sion going for. He feels a lot more like overwhelm midrange than discard aggro, so getting removal that keeps giving you cards in hand and progressing Sion's level up sounds pretty good!
Yeah, people are sleeping on that card... the 8 drop is crazy and the challenger is amazing for forcing bad trades and keeping a discard target up in hand
There's so many references to Radiant Guardian in the art for these cards - Sion Returned has her weapon sticking out his torso, and there is some long blonde hair on top of the corpses in a pile. She can also be seen in the background of one of the reckoner cards
ive already theory crafted a draven sion shadow Isles deck for him but there could be way more discard synergy in other regions. the idea is you attack with sion and gluttony into captain farron ralling into an 8/8 10/4 overwhelm at least with 2 decimates in hand. the mid game you use draven for axes to buff attack or discard fodder and somtimes giving overwhelm by discarding sion. draw using 2 mana draw to by killing your weak and ephemeral units. theres a world where you run a single senna to ruination after sion to clewr but I think that's a meme.
Already built a deck around this, also made some nice combos and not just sion farron. Islander -> make Fallen Reckoner 4 drop -> Gluttony Reckoner to another reckoner means youve granted 2 cant block to enemies. Which could mean free attacks . Also if you have Reputation enabled you can gluttony reckoner into Incisive Tactician for rally

Just realised something I'm gonna make: Sion Ekko: Get discards and copies from both Noxus and PnZ, as well as Predicts. Get Called Shot for Parallel Convergence, as well as leveling Ekko for Chronobursts. Once Sion is leveled, you set up the major combo: Attack with Sion, he dies, attack with his Returned form, it dies, use Chronoburst, you get both Sions on board and Rally, use Parallel Convergence for massive Overwhelm and more Sion Returned, and if that's still not enough, attack again.
Tryndamere: 8 mana Last breath= Level up Sion: 7 mana Last breath: Rally and summon ephemeral copy of me. Darius: 6 mana "I need to see enemies's nexus on 10 health so i can leveling up"
Next expansion gonna be Rengar and Kha'Zix with versus event and I'm sure they gonna have some kind of killed x unit as level up condition, as Rengar collected trophy and Kha'Zix consume and evolved
Sion + Ekko. Using Ekko`s Time Trick (for searching), Chronobreak and Parallel Convergence. A lot of Rally one turn with "Sion Returned 10/4 Overwhelm"
Sion also works really good with LB since if you lvl up LB and you manage to create a Mirror Image you can use the mirror image to create an ephemeral lvl 2 Sion and then you can swing with the baord and get a Sion Returned and you rally too which is a really good amount of value.
With all the Sions, Poppies and other kinds of buff metas coming, cards that silence and transform units into weaker ones are gonna be far more prevalent than ever before, for sure.
Grapplr, as always your takes are very insightful. But there is something you are wrong about it. I would definitely play Sion level 1 on board, if I have a burst discard and big units on hand to level him up. Think about it, unless you are playing against Minimorph, if you play your Sion level 1 at 28 or 30 out of 35 damage on board, and the enemy uses a vengeance, you can on-stack play a discard to level him up and get the free rally + probably end the game since the opponent used a lot of mana.
Hold up a sec, isnt the Tail-Cloak matriarch holdin Ahri? In Beyond the Bandlewoods the Yordle Scout *is* going to Ionia and we haven't seen any non-Yordle Ionians yet. If today is Ziggs (because they go person-yordle-person) could tmrw be Ahri?
tail cloak and hirana are gonna be fun example: stilted ropemaker turn 3 hirana turn 4 ropemaker turn 5 tail cloak and boom 1 mana darkness and the turn after its 0 mana
i actually hope some madlad is crazy enough to put shiraza in this deck considering discarding sion as a combat trick could lead to bonking the nexus for a big chunk
Sion freljord seems like it could be super good thanks to entreat, frostbite, and ramp. Plus the abundance of overwhelm could be great for levelling sejuani.
Also tail cloak matriarch sounds kinda scary if you can get her to work with a sumpworker deck. She upgrades them on her own and then you potentially have at least 2 sumpworkers on the field every turn
Augment doesn't proc when you play a created augment card, so Mirror mage probablly won't trigger even though you've played Glorious evolution the turn before
You can always parry sion with Piltover region, that 4 cost support card where when you support an unit create 4 copy of it in deck, also the 1 cost spell creat 3 or 4 copies of it in deck, meaning if you shuffle so many sions you can level pretty quickly... although it rises the question what else you can pair sion and draven/ jinx in piltover
Hmmmm I think lady of blood could fit in a riven deck that has an arena booky Discard the blade spells for a free draw get a free fleeting fragment But I'm not sure about the wording on lady of blood if it would work
So long as you discard a card per turn (which is feasible with all the low cost discard cards), you can basically summon him on curve. 25+ worth of power to summon or discard in 7 turns is a joke with all these high power units, so you'll just slap down a 10|6 Sion and complete the level up that way.
Yo Grapplr, I'm a little late with the question, but what's your opinion on Ezreal/SI now that Senna can act as a separate win con? I usually play spooky Ez for memes, but the Senna combo seems legit
Omg lost soul is so incredibly underrated. It’s unlimited discard fodder and challengers. Imagine t3 sump dredger discard soul t4 you have a challenger if need and then he dies you have more discard fodder.
Few things I wanted to mention, Sion technically just needs 25 discarded or summon power (if Sion already at 10 power) since summoning Sloan will count as another 10 power and will level up, so I think it’ll level very consistently on 7 Mirror mage + howling abyss doesn’t work, since it has to be created *followers* And alanzq is right let’s be real here 🙃
Imagine Kalista and Sion returned. I assume sion returned is a follower. Which means Kalista attack. Sion summoned. Rally Kalista attack Sion summoned Rally And that would just win the game
Do you think roar of the slayer will be in ez draven decks? It has an easy time clearing swarm, and the discaard isn't a bid deal in it too, so I think it would be good.
