Mhm... not really. It's not completely bad... guitars and drums are good, and voice of course is awesome, but the winds destroy everything. The original song is so perfect that it can not be covered. Every change makes it worse. (And usually I love covers)
@@GrosserMagus Agree most covers are crap. However, the Michael Hutchence version is simply phenomenal, capturing the darkness and making you visualise the depths of depravity this song conveys. Just my tuppence worth, of course 🙂
@@kalevala29 I'm guessing guitarist issues. McGeoch was great. Smith was a perfect replacement, then after that who remembers. Meanwhile The Cure were becoming a more famous band in this period.
Well, funny thing. I can't respect the people of today, the same way. At least in the same regard as those in the 80's. In the 80's we waited for a good bomb. It was time of the Cold War. It was a time to live life as if tomorrow was a surprise. It wasn't til recently that America found itself in a similar situation. It was a time and culture. The people during those times were absolutely original. And, so will it be in these times. But, the people of today don't understand joy in the same distinct way.
I am the passenger And I ride, and I ride I ride through the city's backsides I see the stars come out of the sky Yeah, the bright and hollow sky You know it looks so good tonight I am the passenger I stay under glass I look through my window so bright I see the stars come out tonight I see the bright and hollow sky Over the city's ripped backsides And everything looks good tonight Singing La la, la la, la la la la La la, la la, la la la la La la, la la, la la la la, la la la Get into the car We'll be the passenger We'll ride through the city tonight We'll see the city's ripped backsides We'll see the bright and hollow sky We'll see the stars that shine so bright Stars made for us tonight Oh, the passenger How, how he rides? Oh, the passenger He rides and he rides He looks through his window What does he see? He sees the sign and hollow sky He sees the stars come out tonight He sees the city's ripped backsides He sees the winding ocean drive And everything was made for you and me All of it was made for you and me 'Cause it just belongs to you and me So let's take a ride and see what's mine Singing La la, la la, la la la la La la, la la, la la la la La la, la la, la la la la, la la la Oh, the passenger He rides and he rides He sees things from under glass He looks through his window side He sees things he knows are his He sees the bright and hollow sky He sees the city sleep at night He sees the stars are out tonight And all of it is yours and mine And all of it is yours and mine So let's ride and ride and ride and ride Singing La la, la la, la la la la La la, la la, la la la la La la, la la, la la la la, la la la Singing La la, la la, la la la la La la, la la, la la la la La la, la la, la la la la, la la la Singing La la, la la, la la la la (I am the passenger) La la, la la, la la la la (And I ride, and I ride) La la, la la, la la la la, la la la Singing La la, la la, la la la la (I am the passenger) La la, la la, la la la la (And I ride, and I ride) La la, la la, la la la la, la la la Singing La la, la la, la la la la (I am the passenger) La la, la la, la la la la (And I ride, and I ride) La la, la la, la la la la, la la la
This is an amazing cover of what is Iggy Pop's best work. It keeps the feel of the original while still sounding like a Souixshe and the Banshees original.
@@bogdiworksV2 I heard this song first growing up, so naturally I gravitated towards this version over Iggy's. I became a fan of Iggys later in my teens and when I heard the original it seemed so different but she kept some of the original vibes. Both are excellent imho.
I don't know. I don't think this was Iggy's best work. This was Commercial Iggy. Souixshe does it justice. Iggy and The Stooges was GREAT. As well as The Idiot. I'm a Fan of both Bands for different reasons. Dum-Dum Boys was really the song I always played the Loudest through slave amps. The Banshees remind me of West End 2 at Jones Beach LI from 1977-82. WLIR played a lot of their stuff.
I'm not an accomplished guitarist by any means, only played a couplea house parties with the band I was involved with b4 we split.... never was so driven to just "get in any band and play, then move up and get into a better band, keep going until you hook up with the right people and it just WORKS...." But.... although I've always thought a band doing a cover should do something not as well known rather than a "radio hit" as a cover for one of your last songs of your set.... even though So Many bands cover this tune.... I still would've been down for doing it as well. It's simply a great catchy cool tune.
The original version of this song is by Iggy Pop and it is very rare for a re-recording to be better than the original version, and they achieved this feat. Siouxsie And The Banshees is a unique band in every way, having a vocalist with an exotically incredible voice, as well as a very attractive look. A band way ahead of its time. Lots of light and peace to you!
The video itself is mesmerizing. Considereing the limited video technology back then, the concept and execution and techniques used are brilliant. Fun to watch and every second fully engaging!
This was not made in the stone ages and I have no idea what you mean by "limited" except that you have a limited imagination something the Banshees certainly did not!!
I was a student DJ back in college. I'll never forget the first time I played this Gothic anthem on live broadcast...IT WAS LIBERATING. Back in those days anything goes on college radio. Although we had to "queue" our selections, which very few DJs do today (that's why most so called radio shows and their "playlists" (all programmed) SUCK.
I've heard Dave Gahan speak of Siouxsie with great reverence. This made me think about how big a fan I am of Depeche Mode, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and The Cure. I'm grateful to all of them.
Yes but the Banshees are not peers of Depeche Mode and the Cure. The Banshees are completely in their own realm looking down on them. I hate when the Cure and the Banshees are equated because the Cure SUCKS!
Depeche mode and Cure are the top still today with full arenas and great discography. Although Sioux is a great woman and singer in the men's world,i am still fan of hers.
In June 1986, I saw The Cure (3rd row), Siouxsie and the Banshees (6th row), and Depeche Mode (1st row!) play live in Houston, all within 10 days! I was only 14, but I was already working full-time, so I was able to buy the tickets. It was still a budget stretch, since I only made minimum wage, sweeping hair in a hair salon at the mall. Anyway, my friends and I took turns camping out to buy the tickets, so we could get the best seats possible. It was GLORIOUS. I still have my ticket stubs!
I remember seeing this on MTV's 120 minutes in 1987 when I was 16.. This and Spellbound got me into Siouxsie and the Banshees. In those days, not alot of people knew about this music. It was before 'alternative' was accepted. Good times.
After checking out Nina Simone's 1971 Here comes the sun album you should have changed your mind. She is the undisputed Empress of covers. There's loads of other excellent Simone covers outside of that album too.
@@Jellycrusher it's so surreal how some of us have the memories of them actually playing music videos. I don't even resent what it is now, just don't watch, but it sure was a much more interesting channel when it was more music oriented with a sprinkling of just all types of weird programing :)
I totally remember when VH1 and MTV had music videos, we'd switch between commercials, but they did also have shows during certain times at one point, then it just kept mutating into... Whatever it is now.
I was there...the 70s UK/US new wave/punk rock explosion, which was the last great rock N roll music explosion. I bought her 1st LP the day it came out. I have a gold mine of punk rock/new wave vinal.
And everything was made for you and me. All of it was made for you and me. Cause it just belongs to you and me. So let's take a ride and see what's mine 🤟😎
Welcome to the fan club! I was lucky enough to be 16 when this album came out. It was my first introduction to the band and it floored me. How I lived without Siouxsie and the Banshees before that I'll never know. I became an uber-huge fan from this point on.
This is one of Sioux and The Banshees BEST covers. Their whole covers album "Through The Looking Glass" is brilliant. Such an eclectic assortment of songs. I'm quite conflicted on which I like more - this or Iggy Pop's original. Don't get me wrong, Iggy Pop's version is brilliant. But this just has the extravagant production value - with the horn section and all. The music video for this is brilliant, too. The Banshees will forever be one of my very favorites. Siouxsie is the queen! John Valentine Carruther's guitar is amazing on this cover - as is Budgie's drumming and Severin's bassline.
As a big fan of both Siouxsie And The Banshees and Infinity Train, it makes me so happy to see all the new people in the comments coming here from Infinity Train :')
It brings me the nostalgia of being adult and feasting in the night with my best friends of a city I just visited and had the fun of my life with the lights at the streets and the stars in the sky. And I don't even have that feeling yet.
One of my favorite Iggy Pop songs and one of my favorite songs by the Banshees crew. Siouxsie looks so beautiful, chic and hip in this video. I love her short, boyish pixie cut and of course her signature makeup and clothing style is always dead on as is her voice
La vi en obras sanitarias en Argentina allá por 1990 y pico... Bella Única incluso creo que justo era el cumpleaños... Un lujo... Todos y todas tendrían que venir a tocar aca y sentir el fuego Arngentino !!!!!
First heard this song 19 years ago, doing 120 mph in the passenger seat of a 97 WS6 Firebird on some backroads overlooking Reno, Nevada. T-tops off, windows down, Monsoon sound cranked way up. Made a big fucking impression. Every time I play this song I'm taken back to that moment.
Let's all try to get her / them in the ""Hall of Fame!!". its criminal that she hasn't been included ! She opened doors for alot of bands that came after! Period!
