She's my favorite, when it comes to cover, I remember hearing Dear Prudence and it was like hearing that song for the very first time, she made it her own.
i keep coming back here to hear her do this classic velvet tune and i just love the tone of the guitars on this it sounds metallic like siouxie and her cool makeup
I still think she is one of the most outstanding vocalists in my lifetime. I used to find her scary as a kid. Now she is like one of my most loved women of all time...after Carrie Fisher.
Seriously, Siouxsie singing a classic Velvet Underground? This has to be Heaven. Kill me now, so I can join. On another note, as I am writing this: R.I.P. Lou Reed. A good human is gone.
Alain Papineau, I think that All Tomorrow's Parties was a brilliant cover. Better than Venus in Furs, though, she at least knew what the song was about & that it was adapted from a novella. This reply was meant to be sent to Matteo Scognamiglio.
@@tessierashpoolmg7776 What does William Gibson have to do with the novella “Venus in Furs”_ by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch? Btw, the word masochism is derived from his name, invented by his contemporary, the Austrian psychiatrist Richard von Krafft-Ebing. Masoch did not approve of this use of his name.

Love this cover - strangely I was into the Banshees around 1978~79 and then got VU & Nico at a 2nd hand market - fell in love with VU. Few years later, Banshees & Cale got together - I'm a bit hazy on dates around that time. Must have been great, if only I could remember 🙂🍄
she is eerily channeling '60's folk singer- Judy Henske's "Love Henry". It gave me the chills... Siouxsie would've KILLED it if she covered it. this is proof.
You obviously haven't heard the version by Bostik Swaskika. They played at one of the first Glastonbury Festivals.Their album Seigheils on the beach is almost impossible to get hold of.
Marianne Faithfull is either the Grand Daughter or Great Grandaughter of Ritter Adolph von Sacher-Masaoch who wrote the book 'Venus in Furs' and gave the world the word: masochism. I would have been interested in her take on this song.
A great cover. I do wonder if Severian, the main character in Gene Wolfe's New Sun tetralogy, was named for the original S&M novel, as he is a journeyman in the Guild of Seekers of Truth and Pentinence, commonly referred to as the Torturer's Guild ( a great science fiction/fantasy novel series)
If I could record an album right now with 2 other people living or dead, I would pick Souxie and Dolores O Riordan. I was heartbroken when I heard about her passing. The cranberries are more metal then a lot of the metal bands right now
Some git in this month's Mojo (The November 2023 letters page) is still whingeing about her Swastika armband! Shock stuff....get it on,that was in 1976!
@@eposz2 this is not the Banshees, it is Siouxsie's second band the Creatures. This rendition with brass was a one-off, they only did it once in London for a gig in 1998, but prior to that concert, the Creatures had done a two month tour in the US with John Cale on a double bill tour, and each night SIouxsie performed Venus in Furs with Cale on viola during the last encore and it was awesome. You will get a taste of the real thing on youtube if you type this in the research '> "Siouxsie - The Creatures with John Cale - Venus in Furs - Live USA 1999"
