Agree. In his tenure he won the League Cup and Europa League, got 2nd place at 81 points, and FA Cup runners-up. Imagine if he stayed another three seasons.
Both of them are special in their own way but Jose is the underdog who beat all the odds. It be nice to see him succeed at international level. Pep had/has more resources but his dynasties and systems of play are so good. He made the primer league feel like a farmers league at times 🤣 Jose as well during his early Chelsea reign
@@davidsegovia9644Jose Mourinho is in a different league than Pep....they cant even be compared. Pep has inherited great teams whereever he went ....and If not that he has millions at his disposal. Man city is NOT a football club
Long before José Mourinho managed a small team in his native country and won big in Europe there was another manager, who did exactly the same. And his name is Sir Alex Ferguson (at Aberdeen).
@@vivekjayaraj1484 wow, this is so amusing I've just pissed myself. Mind you, At least Chelski have known better days when the Classless One was in charge. Arsenal 5-0 Chelski Villa 2-0 Chelski (HT)
This man knows what Mourinho was to become, when Mourinho's team beat United he ran down the touch line and slid on his knees to celebrate the winning goal. I could see he was going to succeed, Ferguson see it and they are good friends still and enjoy a bottle of wine 🍷🍷⚽️✌️
José was toxic against so many rival teams coach’s yet he has the ultimate respect and friendship between SAF and José. Many stories that after the game win draw or lose José would bring his favourite Portuguese wine to share a glass in SAF’s office. He returned the compliment. That is the way football should be.
After Porto knocked United out in the champions league both fergie and Gary Neville went into the Porto dressing room and wished them all the best going forward what they did surprised Jose do much because nobody had ever done that before to him from there fergie and Jose became great friends even with the rivalry
Because of the manu team he inherited at the time, and the difficulties the team had over the years prior made it a miracle almost amd a massive achievement. So it was an achievement when you look at it that way @@luckymark571
@@standafan4141 you need to learn to read... I said I hated his chelsea meaning him also, but in that era he was an incredible manager, if you can't see talent because of rivalry you aren't a football fan really are you... your just a salty arsenal fan who's upset because we've not won anything for years just like all of us, but I can respect talent doesn't matter about the rivalry, I don't care what you think really tbh🤣
He did play, just not at a high level. Spent years in the Portuguese league system and by all accounts was a prolific goalscorer during his time with the reserve team at Rio Ave (at the time managed by his father).
He could have made his league debut then but the club president overruled it due to fears of nepotism. He'd go on to make around a hundred professional appearances over a 7 year spell, scoring a professional hattrick for Belenenses and becoming club captain of Comércio e Indústria. He decided that he didn't have the requisite pace and power to compete at higher levels and elected to become a coach instead. He wasn't just an academic - he was very much born into football and his experiences playing entirely out of the spotlight undoubtedly had an impact on him as a manager.
I think what Sir Alex meant was he never played the game at the highest level i.e in an elite club...pep played for an elite barca team, ancelotti played for THAT milan team, zidane ofcz is ZIDANE and so on....he played in portugal but really didnt play for the elite teams
Jose was a player for short time even not in highest level league.. The one and only who never play but become great manager was Arrigo Sacchi.. The manager of the great milan sides of late ‘80..
May I just, as a lifelong LFC fan, express my respect and admiration for Sir Alex. May his like never, ever appear again at Old Trafford! God bless you sir.
To me this is the GOAT of all coaches. He never took a sabbatical for 26 years straight and made Man Utd a top team feared by many others. Won 50% of the league titles while he's there. He's one in a million
@Jack_Bauer I don't believe so. It also said he was in some second league teams but nothing about him ever playing. Quit early maybe that's why and got his coaching badges done.
Actually Jose Mourinho played a little bit as a midfielder, then went to become a scouter and an assistant for his father, who was a football manager. So there was some foundation. But, yes, he had determination to be more than an average coach in his country.
People forget just how unstoppable 00s Mourinho was. Sucess with massive clubs, but massive clubs who needed that final push. Might be a long time yet till we see a European cup won from a club outwith the big 5 leagues. As hard in 04 as it is currently. Inter for decades just couldn't get to that top spot. He sealed it then added the big one. Immediately took Chelsea from nearly men to top dogs, competing with Fergie & Wenger, totally blew them away. A perfect fit for Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund or Marseille. Still brilliant, serial winner but 02-12 guaranteed winner. Not many could do it in so many different leagues under different circumstances. See many managers need to fit to a certain club, he made the clubs fit him. Legend
Mourinho did play football - I believe he was part of Os Belenenses youth academy but then didn’t make it into the first teams. I’m sure that’s what Sir Alex meant.
Pep is amazing. But neither he nor any manager in the 21st century will ever win Europe's top prize with the likes of Inter / Porto. Jose's understanding of the game is miles ahead.
And he owes the majority (of the coaching skill and man management) to Bobby Robson - he has said this himself. RIP one of the greatest English managers of all time.
Now as for Chelsea management u guys don’t see the great picture. What those owners are doing, if it pulls through then it will be the greatest achievement in football. Take in young players with long term contract. They jell and take all the trophies in the future. The owners are not interested in trophies now but for the future. As for Poch, his target was top 4 and he failed not a the cup!
It's mis-leading that he "never played". He did play professionally, just might not be to the level of the teams he managed, but he still played the game at a high level.
Its the British press that dont lime him. The vast majority of football fans outside of Britain respect him. The British press think Ole did a better job at United, despite Ole being given more time and spending more.
