I remember one December when I was young I watched this on TV, it was very random it happened to be on, I was alone in the day, this show has stuck with me and reminds me of Xmas In my childhood.
The Nobility of this story brings tears to the eyes. Anyone who can read or listen to this story and not be moved in his soul to penitence and greater devotion to Virtue is not worthy of their soul. And any soul who does is only as worthy as their sincere thoughts, words and deeds under Gods Grace allows.
Lessons of the virtues of nobility. "O Son of Spirit! Noble have I created thee, yet thou hast abased Thyself. Rise then unto that for which thou was created." “The essence of faith is fewness of words and abundance of deeds.”-Baha’u’llah, Hidden Words
In my English class, we are discussing Enlish from this time period, and King Arthur is perfect for that. The teacher wants to show us a film of this story, and so this is what she is showing us. I am thanking you for her.
The animation is something else, but the tale of the Green Knight is the best of the Arthurian legends. Sir Gawain genuinely thinks his time is up and think about how horrible that would be, just to uphold his honour. I personally love this tale. If you couldn't be bothered to read it, short as it is, then you be lazy my friend! ;)
[SPOILER] A bit disappointed with how the movie handled the whole "stay at Bertilak's" chapter. They did my boy Gawain dirty........in more ways than one (eh heh heh). Plus they kind of just rushed through the whole "gift exchange" part.
True, but did you like how he failed nearly every challenge and was a completely miserable protagonist with no scruples and a prostitute girlfriend for some reason? Gawain is supposed to be flawed, not a complete degenerate.
@@uriahl2331 That I'm iffy about.I understand they were trying to put a "spin" on it while keeping the core messages from the original, but I'll admit I wish it more tightly followed the poem while keeping the gorgeous visuals and cinematography.
@@nervmeister that’s the main good I have to say about it. Looked beautiful, and notwithstanding Gawain himself, the cast was pretty damn good. Up until he leaves on the journey I was enjoying it.
In the romances Arthur will not eat at dinner unless he has seen a wonder, heard a tale of a noble deed, or something along those lines. this is probly his way of getting the knights to do something valiant.
1. What time of year does this story take place? 2. What are the conditions of the game that the Green Knight proposes? 3. Who first consents to take the Green Knight up on his offer of a game? 4. Who actually ends up participating in the game with the Green Knight? 5. How long will it be before the person who participates in the game will have to face the Green Knight?
where did this come from? was it a tv program?? is it on DVD I LOVE arthurian litrature. and I very much enjoy this story. Ive read Tolkien's translation of this poem. next to Malory's Le Morte D Arthur, Gawain and the Green Knight is probly the most populer english arthurian story.
1.Christmas 2. Gawain must strike once and receive one strike himself in a year and a day. 3. Arthur, King of Camelot 4. Gawain, Arthur's nephew 5. A year and a day

It's about honor, especially keeping one's word. Gawain is later tempted by tell the truth or lie, thereby withholding what he got in the castle from Lord Bertilak, though they had agreed otherwise. Gawain witholds, and pays a penalty with the Green Knight.
