Boys the holy thread around his neck has meaning and significance. Rudraksh signifies Lord Shiva and people put it around as a means to keep peace and serenity. Here, he took a vow that unless he had the necklace on he would never fight so to fight he had to somehow remove it but the catch is he can't do that by his own hands so each time he has to fight either he gets his friends to remove it or fools the goons to do it. That's what you saw. If you notice, when the goons go to his house and drag him out of the house the crowd gathers but there is one particular person who he subtly says to stay put.
