Ah Peter Ustinov, how we still miss him; superb storyteller, great actor, incredible imitator, comedian and humorist and so on and so on. Thank God he made numerous movies so we can still enjoy him and besides we can also read his books.
Peter Ustinov belongs to the artists who made us dream and improve, somehow, as an example of genius, tremendous work and always, real modesty. And he was very charming till the end. At 82, he looks here better than anytime before. No?
If this was indeed Peter's last interview, I'm glad that he got a standing ovation. He seemed quite touched by that. And he also seemed rather taken with the host of the show. No wonder, she's great.
A wonderful show of love for a remarkable and great Actor/gentleman. I spoke German when I lived there in 1990. I no longer speak it, I'm sorry to say.
kieran Taylor. Wouldn't we all,Kieran? I think if you or I were to send him an invitation we would find ourselves on a waiting list of at least ten years.
Happy Birthday Peter Usinov. My favourite movie is logan't run and Around the world in 80days.He is one of my top ten favourite actors of all times.I know he is dead. But, i still watch his films.Oh, i love Quo Vadis.they just showed it today.
3sat is a german television transmitter of the two biggest german public tv programs ARD and ZDF with partners ORF (Austria) and SRF (Switzerland). This is the reason why the hosts in this interview speaks german with an austrian accent. The fourth person at the table, Jenny Jürgens, was born in Munich and her late father was the great singer Udo Jürgens, who was born in Klagenfurt/Austria, but I think he lived mostly of his adult life in Germany.
You make a very arresting observation when you say that Sir Peter was 'an absolute product of Halcyon days' ; that is exactly it - such people were produced by that uniquely marvellous era in which they grew up, and in a way that can never be replicated. He was among the last of the great vintages - and there can never be the sunshine and shadow to grow his like again.
What a spirit. i really hope there is a god or two and that souls like that get a chance to roam and come back one day. the world... any world.... need spirits like him.
Subtitles would be nice wouldn't they or we'll just have to learn German but doesn't he look marvellous for his age and forget exercise regimes and diets too, he's an absolutely stirling example of living your life the way you want to live it; not the way you think you should live it. Vale Sir Peter Ustinov long may your memory live.
SIR PETER USTINOV LOOKS VERY GOOD IN THIS INTERVIEW. OTHER THAN HIM BEING SKINNIER THAN HIS USUAL WEIGHT. I SEE NO WRINKLES!I THINK HE HAS LOVELY SMILE, AND I LIKE THE WAY HE LAUGHS! I LOVE HIS DEEP BRITISH VOICE! I WOULD HAVE LIKE SOMEONE TO INTERPRET WHAT PETER IS SAYING IN GERMAN IN THE INTERVIEW, AND WHAT HOST IS ASKING HIM?I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS BEING SAID IN ENGLISH? HOPE SOMEONE CAN LET ME KNOW WHAT IS BEING SAID IN ENGLISH? HE IS SOMEONE I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE MET OR KNOWN HIM IN PERSON! SIR PETER IS QUITE A MULTI-TALENTED PERSON AND ACTOR. THANK YOU.I MISS SIR PETER USTINOV. I AM GLAD I HAVE SOME OF HIS MOVIES AND TV WATCH HIM ON RU-vid. :)
They seemed to understand each other. :) His German is very good, but his accent became more pronounced as he got older. Only a few little grammatical errors. A wonderful actor, a wonderful man, a wonderful wit, and a dying breed.
hope i did a pleasent job. there may be some mistakes, but i hope you can understand it. i think i got the essential messages and - of course - jokes. i would be delighted about your responses.
Peter looks like a teacher at Hogwarts here. A man of so many talents, second only to Orson Welles in his skills as a raconteur. We shall not see his like again.
definitely a dialogue between generations. The idea of the foundation is studying prejudices and their effect on people and politics." She ask the to people: "Is your reason for choosing Peter Ustinov as honorary chaiman, that he lives and shows and alternativ way of getting old? A very energetic way?" Woman: "Yes, of course. We are living in a world, in which slogans like 'forever young' and 'anti-aging' determine our lifes. In which 20 year old girls advertise for anti-age-cream, in which
Interestingly (?), the introductory music is Ron Goodwin's title for Hitchcock's 'Frenzy' (1972); very London! But otherwise, apart from Sir Peter's wearing a rather fine silk tie, there are few other connections that leap to mind - I'm somewhat glad to say.
they take folks like me." Host in 4:43: "I think several times you had the pleasure to meet the Queen, who dubbed you knight in 1990." Peter: "Well, yes, in expectation of this knight-thing i had to answer two questions either yes or no. Question number one: I am able to kneel. Question number two: I am not able to kneel. And than i did not know what to do, i telephoned, i tried to call her, and finally i got her on the phone - well...äh...not the Queen, but Buckingham Palace and i told them:
I still regret not meeting Sir Peter when I was studying at Durham University. He visited my college, which is named after him, but I was not able to attend. Sir Peter is one of my heroes, not in the least for his language skills. Some may complain about not understanding this interview in German. Well, follow Sir Peter's example, learn German and other languages and genuinely become a world citizen.
+Reggy de Groot I agree, except for the "World Citizen" part, I'm British and nothing else, I'm not Polish, Nigerian nor Pakistani, I'm British! I speak four languages fluently and am currently studying two others, yes learn the languages but don't denounce your own nation.
Kit Bear I've never said you should denounce your nation. I'm Dutch and I'm proud to be Dutch and proud of my country. I also believe that you can only be a citizen of the world if you know where your home is and you're able to share your language and culture with others. Being a world citizen doesn't mean you should shed your national identity but that you're able to add to that, enrich it and add yours to others'. I enjoyed my time in Britain. I brought some British customs back to the Netherlands. I will always remain Dutch but that doesn't mean I can't add some Britishness to my Dutchness 😉
I will try my very best to translate it into english language for you Vickie Windt. The two people on the right have made Peter honorary chairman of the foundation "dialogue of generations". She asks him, why he accepted to be honory chairman, but then she is interrupted by the man on th right. She in 2:16: "is the foundation about reducing the prejudices between generations?" Peter: "Yes of course, thats it. And because i am 82 years old and he (man on the right) is 46 years old it is
Apparently fluent in 6 languages !! It’s very difficult to find such wise and educated people today , I am convinced that modern human brains have become compromised due to computer technology and terrible food quality , the general decline in food quality and the elites promoting diets that a far from ideal are poisoning people and it shows in general health and especially mental health ! Eat as nature intended and you will see great improvements in all states of health although there is no guarantee of having the sheer brilliance of this man
@@orange1666 To add more to the malady as if your list was insufficient to explain such a demoralizing decline in civilization I'd add the culture of selfish materialism, the disinterest in history and the expediency of the belief that the end justifies the means. The digital age has put the wisdom of the ages in easy reach but there's not much interest.
he looked like that. IF he exsisted, he probably looked like Andre Agassi. Who is looking foward all the time, who is poilte and nice." Host: "Are you interested in tennis?" Peter: "Oh yes i was very...äh....i beated the umber three of the Turkish Davis-Cup-Squadron in Istanbul. On his own terrain. That was impressing but...(laughing)" Host: "Do you and your wife sometimes watch one of your numerous movies at home?" Peter: "Yes, when its about something very astonishing or something i have
THANK YO SO MUCH 8ELENAGILBERT! I NEED TO LEARN GERMAN OR WHATEVER LANGUAGE IS BEING SPOKEN. I THINK IT IS GERMAN THEY ARE SPEAKING. SIR PETER LOOKS GREAT OTHER THAN BEING THIN. HE IS A GREAT LOSS TO THE ACTING WORLD AND THE WORLD ITSELF.
Sir Peter had enormous advantages in life. He was born into an extremely wealthy family, with roots in 17th century Russia. The family moved to Germany, then to the USA with wealth 100% intact. SP also had a photographic memory, which explains his Gift for Languages...
Just courious to the providers of this video. On youtube presentment of this video it says 10 years ago. Peter died in 2004 so Im wondering how U were able to come up with that time frame? Folks, pls. do due dilligence on what U are watching and digesting here. So many false testimonies on youtube, common sense folks, decernment.
I recorded the Peter Ustinov interview from TV, and only years later (also years after his death) was I able to concert old VHS video tapes to a digital format and put it online :). Thanx for watching.
50 years old hardly get a job and 60 years old get no loan at all. And Sir Peter Ustinov with such an experience and such a 'lived life' showes how to be pleased with age." Host: "You are an cosmopolitan man. You are chancellor of an university in England. What is function of a chancellor, what do you do?" Peter: "A chancellor stands higher than a rector. Usually chancellors are crowned heads like the Queen and Prince Charles and Prince Philipp, but when they run out of crowned heads
+TheMrBennito The set of short stories "Add a Dash of Pity" is very good, though it focuses on the cruelty implicit in some unfortunate relationships (hence the title)...
already forgotten. To see if i have learned something. Or what i did not learn. (laughing)" Host: "Is there a special message you - as 82 year old man - want to deliver to the younger generation?" Peter: "Yes...äh....talk to the other generations. Doing that you do learn so much. I am associated to bishops and i pleased them very much by saying 'i believe that education ends with death - or afterwards. It depends on what you believe'. The bishops were very pleased - me too. (laughing). THE END
For those who cannot understand. It's about a charity that encourages dialogue between generations. Not very interesting and not much raconteuring or wit.
But elsewise it was a very great experience, because the part of Friedrich is the only part in the movie which goes through an slox developement." Host: "In this context of the movie: are you a religious man?" Peter: "I think, one can be religious without believing in something, because all of us are uncertain. But i do not believe that Jesus Christ - as i learned in school - that he was that man with the long beard. Thats an idea of the Victorian Age an fin de siécle. I do not believe that
'Well, i have a problem, i am not able to response the questions...because i CAN kneel, but i cannot RISE.' (laughing)" Host: "Do you believe that the Queen is a person who very rarely laughs?" Peter: "No she...she has humour, but it's hidden very well." Host: "Sir Peter Ustinov, you recently shot a new movie called 'Luther'. What is you part in this movie?" Peter: "Friedrich the sapient. So you can imagine that it has to be a character part, cause i am not sapient and i am not called Friedrich.
To the German speaking people, for whom this interview was recorded, this is NOT "rubbish". What a trash statement to make! What language do you THINK a German/Austrian broadcast should be made in--JAPANESE?!?, Chinese, Italian?!? Your comment makes no sense AT ALL! SMH Oh wait, you ignorantly want every Peter Ustinov (and all other videos) to be posted in English, because you are undereducated and speak only that common language fluently. You're a fool.
