0. It seems this country has forgotten what this man did for us,and look at britain now, weak, easily worked, high immigration, the laughing stock of the world.God!! Do we need someone of his stature now!! Respect for Winston,he'll be turning in his grave now.
People misunderstand Churchill and think he was some kind of Engerlund Engerlund Engerlund gammon Brexiteer. Absolutely not. Churchill was very pro-Europe and would have been in favour of things like the EEC if he'd been alive to see it. His image was also hijacked by the BNP who totally misportrayed him and he wouldn't even have been eligible to join the BNP even if he somehow wanted to. It was only really under David Cameron that there was serious Euroscepticism in the Conservative Party. Cameron didn't have the spine to keep those people in their box, hence the mess we're in now. He also rolled over for Alex Salmond and again there were consequences for that. The Conservatives have always been pro-Europe under Churchill, Thatcher, Major (and he put it on steroids), Cameron and Osborne also campaigned for remain in 2016 and lost their own jobs as a result, Theresa May was also pro-EU but had to drink from the poisoned chalice left out for her.
I am an American and Winston Churchill is someone I greatly admire. It also makes me feel good to know that he was very proud of his American heritage. It was something special to him. The man is a giant of history.
The scene that stays with me was the end of his funeral. His coffin was placed in a train and filmed from above so you saw the steam blowing as the train chuffed out of London to go to Bladon. As the train passed the London docks every crane dipped to honour him. Very moving.
Sadly the current crop of politicians are not even fit to be trodden under his soles , and are only substances that he would have scraped off in disdain .
Appart from maybe Margaret thatcher..hence her nickname..the iron lady...she wasn't afraid to speak her mind and put people in their place..r.i.p Maggie
Churchill and Thatcher were the _only_ former Prime Ministers where the late Queen personally attended their funerals. None of the other former PMs had any royal attendance at their funerals whatsoever.
In my view Churchill was the right man at the right time. We as a nation were extremely lucky to have him in such dangerous times. I was lucky enough to visit his resting place a few years ago, it's a lovely place and very accessible. Nice video Paul, thank you Winston Churchill you done good !
He did index .. despite him being “ controversial “ c a dozen times 🙄. If k ok soul had done his homework, and he patently hadn’t , he would know a lot of what gets said is BS actually. He wasn’t even entirely a “ product of his time @ but was ahead in so many things . Btw - he was SIR Winston to us mortals - its important.! This vid def not “your finest hour” ( intended) Paul I’m afraid, for “ the greatest Britain “. 🙄.
Hi Paul, thanks again for an excellent post. A couple of Saturdays after Sir Winston Churchill was buried, my parents and grandparents took me to visit his grave in Bladon churchyard. So many people felt the need to pay their respects to him, that cars were being parked in farmers’ fields over a mile away from the church. I was only a lad of fourteen, and it was wintertime, but I didn’t mind queuing for what seemed ages. Somehow we were doing what was necessary. Many years later I was driving a van through Bladon, and stopped to have my sandwiches by the church. It was so peaceful. He was still there.
I can remember his funeral like it was yesterday. I was 7 years old siting on a table cross legged watching it on the cossor black & white T.V, its just stuck in my mind.
Went to visit his grave last year, took a couple of foreign students, who wanted to see where he was laid to rest. Imagine there surprise, when the came up to that small beautiful churchyard, the asked why was he there, instead of his family home. I couldn't answer them really, but I think it's a beautiful place to be buried, and very very English. Perfect for him.
The parish of Bladon contains Blenheim Palace, and generations of Spencer-Churchills are buried in St Martin's churchyard. Churchill could have been buried in Westminster Abbey, but he preferred the simplicity of St Martin's, near his birthplace of Blenheim Palace. It was the 4 duke of Marlborough that had the church pull down and rebuilt. Also Churchill was only a cousin of the Marlborough’s and his Mum went into labour at a party at Blenheim. Hope this helps answers why ❤
@@gilltagg3352 think there is some sort of memorial to him in Westminster Abbey in the floor just as you go in the entrance door as saw it on the Queen's funeral coverage recently
@@annieanonymous611 Yes, you are right. There is a memorial stone to him. It was dedicated to him in 1965. It is a green marble stone, close to the Grave of the Unknown Warrior and was unveiled by HM The Queen on the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
What a life lived. An absolute Titan of a man in relation to our freedom that we so enjoy. During the toughest of times his leadership was truly incredible. Great video Paul. 🇬🇧
I vaguely remember seeing his funeral on TV. He was a great leader and we could do with him today. A very fitting resting place for him. There’s nothing like a beautiful, English churchyard and churches.
That is simply not true. Churchill begged for help many times from USA until finally they were brought into the war. Without help from USA who travelled thousands of miles to help. We'd have been speaking German. Your comments are ignorant. For the record....Churchill was ready to surrender. After defeat after defeat etc etc Britain was on its knees. He changed his mind. It's that simple. Know your history. Ps I'm not German, as my name is historical, like many throughout history, who were born and live in the British Isles.
Can't wait,I have great respect for Winston Churchill, a great leader during the 2nd World War,he was the right person at the right time ,his speeches were and are inspirational !!!!!!!!!!!🤗🇬🇧
I’ve been to the Churchill war rooms in London, And I’ve been to the beaches of Normandy in France He was the leader the world needed at the time to bring everything together. I still find it hilarious his phone back to my side of the ocean here in the USA, was disguised as his own personal toilet Definitely one of the worlds greatest men of the 20th Century, great video I just found out yesterday, one of my great uncle’s I never met, was one of the many Americans 🇺🇸 that stormed the Beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944
At the age if 15 my parents, both of whom were in the Air Force during the war, took me to attend the laying in State for this amazing man. I will never forget taking the day off school.
Such a beautiful peaceful place for his final resting place along with his adored wife “Clemny” and surrounded by his parents and other family members. I can remember as a child what a great impression he had made on the country with his latter contributions, and support of the Queen. I was just ten years old when he died, and sobbed my heart out watching his funeral on our little black and white tv. Even at that age I recognised someone great had passed on. We could do with his like again, but fear we never will. It’s nice that there is also a memorial in St Paul’s where his funeral took place, and can well imagine people being surprised that he is actually here in this beautiful little country churchyard. I know which I would choose given a choice too! Thankyou for all the research Paul..I didn’t know he died the same date as his father ! And Thankyou for taking us on another peaceful, picturesque resting place of an individual who made a mark in our lives. Drive carefully and stay safe! Love Helen in Norfolk. 🙋♀️💕😘🦋🦋👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
A very controversial man, full of fight, spirit. Wow such a peaceful and beautiful place for him to rest. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to see where The Man himself is.
A great tribute to the man who led us to victory during WW2 and kept the competition off our backs. A 20th century icon and a legend of British history. Thanks Mr Churchill 😊
Thank you Paul - a super super vlog of my all time favourite Briton ( maybe now equalled by Queen Elizabeth II). I love Churchill, I love what he did for our country, but I also love that he was human - flawed, depressive and so on. He was the most special man. Y’know when you have that conversation on who you’d have to your ‘you can choose anybody’ to a dinner party - top of my list is always Winston. The greatest man - to whom we all hold a debt of gratitude. Saving this vlog Paul - one of my favourites - thank you 👌👍
That's interesting so am i through my mother's blood line. My mother's maiden name is Tattersall. A few years ago, i was on the internet and stumbled upon some information that said that winston Churchill is one of the great grandsons of Baron Robert de Tattersall who was called to parliament and made a Baron. He loyally rode along side king henry III, in a war against the welsh rebels. Before that the de tattershalls originally came over to England around or just after 1066. This ties in with William The Conquerer who had two loyal companions that had come over to England with him in the autumn of 1066. One of the loyal companions was Eudo, who was descended from the de tattershalls. Tattershall Castle is in the village of Tattershall, Lincolnshire. William The Conquerer had given Lincolnshire to Eudo. Also, the Spencer family are also related to Baron Robert de Tattershall like Winston Churchill. In the information that i read about people related to Baron Robert de tattershall i read that Princess Diana was the 19th great grand daughter of Baron Robert De Tattershall. There are websites on the internet about Tattershall Castle and it is a functioning castle, where talks are given in the castle about it's history and about the the De Tattershalls. The castle is now owned by The National Trust.
Wow, what a beautiful church. Shame it wasn’t open as stated. I love wandering all those very old graves in these lovely church yards too, it makes you wonder about the stories of these people you pass in their resting places. So peaceful and interesting. Very informative video Paul thank you. Given me much more information about him than I knew. Beautiful grave stone. Cheers.
Respect to churchhill my mum told me about churchhill she liked him as prime minister didn't know anything about him only what mum told me she was born in 1926 but sadly died in 2017 thank you Paul for such an amazing video thank you to Winston Churchill a great man ❤️
brilliant video Paul, I remember as a teenager watching his funeral on B&W tv and will never forget when his coffin traveled down the Thames and all the dockside cranes lowered their jibs. Many years later I traveled on the Orient Express from Victoria to Winchester in the carriage that carried his coffin , I think it was called Lydia. Keep 'em coming mate.
Totally agree with the comments below, this guy is needed now but what a leader. Visited his war room in Westminster in August. Its something all should see. Great video again Paul 👏
The late Queens first UK Prime Minister. I lived in South Africa for two years. Literally a field away from where Winston was captured by the Boers in the Armoured Train incident. That was during Boer War.
I 100 % agree with you Paul, where would we be if not for that great Man, all is hard work and so many lost there lives, fighting to keep our country safe, and to give us a better future, it would seem that they have thrown that all away, such a shame, a great video as always, keep it up, you are doing a brilliant job, 👍
Just catching up with your videos! Amazing! I think his speeches and voice still resonates, he gave hope to people when this country faced it worst moments…..a man of his time and a hero! If you visit the house he lived at in Kent near the end of his life….you learn about a different man, a family man , artist and writer.
Thank you doing this one. I will never get a chance to visit due to disability. My grandmothers line was related to Churchill through his mother. I have family stories through a member of the family who was able to do genealogy while family members who got to know him were still alive. I get to learn about him through what I read, etc. Thank you so much again and keep up the awesome videos.
Great video for a great man and leader, I was 10 when his funeral took place and I still vividly remember his coffin travelling down the Thames thanks Paul for another well thought out and produced video, cheers mate.
It’s thanks to his leadership that we have our freedoms today and people should remember that no one is perfect but he done his duty to king and country and no one can take that away RIP GREAT MAN
Oh Paul that was a lovely one, I remember I was about seven we lived on the isle of dogs opposite Greenwich, they took he’s body down the river right past were we lived, I’ve never forgot it I said to my dad who’s that he said a very great man he saved us all. I now live in chingford and in Woodford there is a massive monument just past the roundabout, as he was the m.p. for woodford at one stage.
1965 I was 10 and can remember we were all given the day off school to watch a black and white version of Churchills State Funeral on TV. It was only 20 yrs after Germany had surrendered and the war was fresh in people’s minds. RIP a different era for a different kind of man and politician.
CHURCHILL THE MAN WAS A LEGEND , WOW, AMAZING THK YOU FOR THIS VLOG PAUL , TRUELY WAS WONDERING ABOUT HIM , AND NOW HE IT IS , RIP WINSTON CHURCHILL 🙏💔🇬🇧
If it wasn't for Winston Churchill god know what would have happened to Britain to me he was the best prime minister..EVER.. my brother had a Staffordshire bull terrior and named him Winston after Churchill.. GOD BLESS U WINSTON 🙏 AS U SAID ..WE SHALL NEVER SURRENDER..AND WE NEVER DID..
Yes Churhill was a great leader but it must be remembered it was also the tenacity of the British people that helped as well the masses of men and women that stepped up to the plate great video Paul thankyou.
Thank you Paul, another great video and for this wonderful man. Some of course would argue that he wasn’t a great peace time prime minister, but that’s for the individual to decide based on history. Let us not forget that many years ago now, long after his death, he was voted by the public as “the greatest ever Britain”
WOW you’ve actually been somewhere I’ve been…my late brother took me there when I was about 12/13yrs old…he took me to Blenheim Palace and the bed he was born in…a stunning place to see if you’ve never been!!! I’ve had a deep respect for him from stories mum told me…like how he fooled our enemies in WW2 by placing cardboard cutouts of tanks positioned along the coast to make them believe we had a whole load of defence (which we didn’t really) upon when the enemies saw them all they surrendered and that was the end of the war!!! I think that was a genius move…risky to the extreme, but he pulled it off+I’m assuming won a lot of respect for doing so. After seeing where he was born, we went to that little church, but I don’t remember if we went inside+saw his grave, or not. I’m thinking maybe not as I’m sure I would remember doing so!!! I’ve never forgotten going to BP or the little church…it’s pronounced Blaydon…beautiful countryside around there too!!! X🙃❤️
Hi Brilliant job again Paul ,many thanks for visiting Sir Winston Churchill as I suggested him to you, I'm looking forward to many more,,, once again great job 👍
This has baffled me wow Paul I was told along time ago that he was laid to rest in St Paul’s Cathedral !!¡ … thanks Paul Thais why I like you channel .
God bless you Paul thank u so much for sharing this I wish this man and great leader was here he was a ledgend god bless w Winston Churchill one of our warriors x
If it wasn't for Sir Winston Churchill we would all be speaking German Nazis. I wish we had a leader like to today. Another great video Paul as always! All the best. Steven.
Winston Churchill was a great leader we need more like him , the world be a better place. I was born in 1965 when Churchill passing. May he rest in peace 🙏😇
Great video Paul, respectful as always...🙏... I was lucky enough to visit Chartwell, Churchills home, just before lockdown.... Stunning, def worth a visit if you get a chance x
I used to be the police officer in the village of Blagdon in Somerset, a lovely posting, but I often has Americans rolling up asking where Churchill's grave was!
Think I could hear Winston turning in his grave " what would he think of today's society " fiercely defended our borders, now we have an invasion of non combatants slowly but surely diluting and dissolving the green and pleasant lands once fiercely fought over , and British men and women laid down there lives , I fear as time comes to pass it was all in vain .
Big cigars and brandy certainly didn't damage his health considering how long he lived ( He said to one of his generals who had refused a drink by saying " No thank you Sir Winston, I neither drink nor smoke and I am 100% fit" Churchill's retort was typical of the man "I both drink and smoke and am 200% fit!" ) One of his favourite composers, The Finn Jean Sibelius was similar in his tastes, he also loved brandy, champagne and big cigars and when he celebrated his 90th birthday in 1955 Churchill sent him a big box of his own favourite cigars as a gift.
People can say what they want about Sir Winston Churchill, but he was the best Prime Minister this country has ever had; many politicians have tried to emulate him over the years but not one has ever come close. He lies in a very beautiful spot.
My most famous man. He saved the world. I have his temper and people get mad at me but like I tell the way I think. Loved his sprit. Every so often a man or woman will come. To do good or evil. He was a great man and made Britain grate. The best ever they will never be another Churchill Winston.
Sir Winston Churchill and my parents' generation fought to protect our country from foreign invaders to preserve our freedoms, culture and way of life for future generations. Subsequent politicians have given it all away. If Sir Winston and our countrymen who made the supreme sacrifice saw the state of our country today they would weep. If you'd put your ear to the stone you might have heard thump, thump, thump where the great man's turning in his grave.
I went here in the 1980s as a young boy with my parents. It’s not far from Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. I remember my father taking a few pictures of his grave. If I remember rightly, his grave is facing towards Blenheim Palace where Sir Winston Churchill was born.
I was an 18yr old when he died, i did what was then called hitch hiked 50 miles to queue up to see his grave, PS the queen lay in state for 5 days 250,000 people went past, Churchill lay in state for 3 days and 300,000 people went past, and there was none of this clapping business on the march in London people just bowed their heads in respect how things have changed and not for the better.
Ah, brings Me back to My October 1993 Trip. i have Been to Bladen, and Visited the Grave Yard. Was told that He was Buried there, instead of Westminster Abby was "There are People in there I would not have Tea with!" By the way, having Visited Churchill's Birthplace, Blehahmn Palace, they will tell you a FEW Tails about Him. Thank You for the Video.
Hi Paul, Thank you for another post. This man to me stands out for his great speeches, huge cigars, and status amongst world leaders during the war. I was 14 when he died, so history book's were really the source of information on his life. Just a point made in your viewer's comment's was he had a quick wit, which leads me to think smoking huge cigars and even larger brandies had a very low risk factor compared to someone trying to shoot you. The fact he lived to 91 supports this thinking.
Some years ago I visited CHARTWELL, very much a Family home of Winston and Clementine Churchill. It was a fascinating insight of Winston Churchill as a private Family man. My favourite quote by Sir Winston Churchill: “A DOG LOOKS UP TO YOU/ A CAT LOOKS DOWN AT YOU/ BUT A PIG WILL TREAT YOU AS ITS EQUAL!!... Another interesting video📹🤔
Hi Paul. Another great video done with respect as always. He was a great man. We owe him and all those who gave their lives for us. We need a leader like him again. Now.
Don't remembe much about Sir Winston Churchill I was only a kid in the 60s. He helped us in the war but it's a vague memory beings i was born in 1958 and history helps i guess. if it weren't for history we wouldn't know about these famous people
I was born in 1959 Nancy and I recall very strongly sitting in front of our black & white television set one cold damp day at the end of January 1965 and watching the State Funeral of Winston Churchill as well as the following of the train carrying his coffin to his final resting place. At the age of nearly 6 I didn’t know too much about his life and history but I did know that his leadership in WW2 saved this country and that he was a very important and respected person.
Brilliant video Paul and what a lovely church and grave yard ..I never knew that he commanded the royal Scots fusiliers..my grand uncles regiment…he was exactly what we needed to win the Second World War …I’m so thankful that he was in charge ,other wise your right Paul we would have been ruled by Germany …I will visit the graveyard the next time I visit Oxford as being in the RAF there it’s very special to me .Thankyou Paul …Best wishes
