Cool review. My daughter just got one in mint after waiting months and months for them to become available again. It absolutely feels like a $1,000 instrument for half the price. Incredible quality. We are going to eventually string through the body but it came bridge loaded and sounds too good to change anything right now.

Very cool! Its a great bass for a young person, mine came strung through the bridge too, since then I put picollo strings on it, will be doing a review with the new strings on it, gives it a whole new dimension, thanks!

Thanks for the comprehensive review.I,ve been playing over 50yrs and use a Fender 98 precision.Managed to acquire a nasty shoulder injury 2yrs back.Sore! Anyway ,I have a Tobacco Sunburst version of your Sire due shortly.Its funny because I actually wanted your natural finish but i,ll be happy with either.Its the sound that counts and we,ll get used to the cosmetics in time.As for reaching those high frets..thats nothing that cant be fixed by picking up the new bass everyday..Practice and acclimatisation.Congratulations on your new bass from myself over here in Ireland.Im just hoping my new baby will sound as good as it looks.Im not worried though.Ive played the Sire M.Miller ash V7(active) and its one of the nicest sounding basses I,ve played.Thats saying something as Im used to the great Fenders.The price and my injury made my mind up..not forgetting the woods and electronics and M.Miller endorsement.Also,having played the V7 I believe I know whats coming.I recommend stringing your bass through the body.Thats why its designed that way.Your bandmates and audience will thank you for it.Keep up the practice.Everyday,even if only 5mins.Familiarity and practice will pay off.Thanks again for review.

Hey SheaSta, thanks for the comments, I had a fender p as my main bass for a long time but it wasn't the greatest specimen, I probably should have left it stock but I'm always messin around with my gear, I had it for 40 years and recently sold it. I've had back surgery before so I can sympathize with your dilemma. all my basses now are lighter then 8lbs. Lots of great instruments are available nowadays for very fair prices, good luck with the U5, its quite an impressive little guy.

Great review! I've been looking for one foam colour for my son too, he’s playing an ibanez tmb30 at the moment, sadly was told the eta in Australia will be end of the year 😩

Thanks Sydney, my wife and I want to visit your country, looks like an awesome place! I was told here in USA that the U5's were out of stock also until the end of the year but its worth the wait. If yer the impatient type (like me) you can always keep an eye out on sites like ebay and reverb.com for a used one. I got the one you see in the video on ebay and its like new for about $100 less than new. Good luck my friend!

The electrical buzzing starts and stops immediately each time you start and stop playing, so military planes flying overhead would have no way of knowing when you are playing or not. Sorry about your hearing loss, by the way, but you’re reviewing musical instruments so I’m listening through headphones just like someone else commented. But this fairly loud noise is easily heard (to me) with and without my headphones. I’m waiting on my U5 so hopefully it’s not an issue. It’s supposed to arrive in a few weeks 🙏🏾

Hey Cornell, thanks for the additional comments on the buzzing and you may have hit the nail on the head. I'm 63 years old and after running loud construction equipment and playing in loud rock bands for most of my life, I do have hearing loss. With that being said, I really don't think you have to worry about that issue with your new U5, if buzzing was an issue on all of these, we would be hearing it more and more from other reviewers and the company would have done something about it. Let me know how you like you new U5 when you get it, thx!

hey i was wondering, does this bass have a good low end? because i know sometimes it doesn’t come across great on video, i play more hard rock and stuff and i wanna make sure it has a good deep sound
@studioxmusic
@studioxmusic 2 года назад
Hey Dallas, thats a good question, I really didn't spend a whole lot of time with it before switching the strings to picollo strings, thats what I bought the bass for. I play alot of hard rock too but prefer active electronics for that, this bass may not be what you are looking for although I think the low end was okay and you can always crank it up on your amp to make up for any short comings. Maybe you can get your hands on one before you buy it to make sure it works for you or maybe buy a used one to try it. If you really want a bass that puts our an incredible amount of bass, look at my review on the Ibanez EBH1000 or EBH1500, headless basses with more low end than you'll ever need! Thanks!

@@studioxmusic thank you! one more question lol, those basses are a little out of my price range and what i’m looking for specifically is a short scale within about the $500 mark, i’d also like to buy new, any suggestions?
@studioxmusic
@studioxmusic 2 года назад
@@dallascox1989 Hey Dallas, you can ask as many questions as you need. The Marcus Miller we are talking about might work out ok for you, everyone is different but I would definitely recommend an Ibanez SR series bass with active electronics, they come in at different price points. Super fast action, light weight, nice body design and I can go on and on but you can check out some more of my videos to view and hear them. I lost count at how many Ibanez basses I have reviewed and I've owned every one that I reviewed. My SR700 was in mint used condition when I bought it on ebay for $345! thx!

@@dallascox1989 Hey Dallas, I just listened back to some of my playing with the Sire MM bass and while it may work out for you okay I would still have to recommend the active Ibanez SR series over that, while they are made in the same country and you get similar high end features at a low price, I think a full size bass will sound better for hard rock. You can hear me playing live with my rock instrumental jam band Backseat Driver on youtube if you do a search but its sometimes hard to find even though we have about 60 videos out, not sure why.

Q: I’m hearing a ton of hum. Is that the bass or something else? Every time you stop playing it becomes unbelievably buzzy - like some ferocious single coil hum. I don’t think I could live with that level of hum if it is the bass itself.
@studioxmusic
@studioxmusic 2 года назад
Hey J, I went back and listened to a little of this vid again and I really didn't hear any humming at all, not sure where yer gettin that from, yer the only one who made that comment, but just to verify, there isn't any hum or buzz coming from this bass, if there were, Sire wouldn't be selling too many and I can tell you that right now, these basses are hard to find new or used, retailer sold out of their inventory and any new ones are probably sitting on a container ship off the coast of California.

@@studioxmusic Thanks for the clarification (and for the review!). But for the sake of fairness: I listen to bass guitar reviews videos with good quality headphones (as it should be done). I used a Sony MDR-7506 (a studio standard headphones). And definitively there is a hum in the video. A sizzling static sound. You can notice what I just wrote around the minute 4:35 to 5:00. The concerning part is that it seems to go away when you press the entire strings with your hand, but comes back as soon you take your hand out. Which makes one thinkk that it is an issue with the pickups or the preamp rather than the amp in where is plugged in. Thanks again!

@@Kaltrish_ Yeah. Exactly. But I’ve not heard anything similar from any other reviewers, so I wonder if his amp isn’t properly grounded. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi, The bass makes no noise (i own one) ; the wizzz in the vid comes from the studio itself.
@studioxmusic
@studioxmusic 2 года назад
@@geo0859 Thanks for the confirmation on that George, I do have some hearing loss so the buzz could very well be in a frequency that I'm losing, besides that, I have tinnitus, take care of your hearing guys because this really sucks if you get it, and you will be taking it to the grave, have a nice day.

Ok, this is the second comment I had on buzzing on this bass and the second time I went back and listened back for buzzing and I think I know what you are hearing. There is NO buzzing on this bass, what I believe you are hearing is jet noise. I live near a military base where the navy jets practice and fly right over my house, I've clocked them at over 112db so the noise does make it onto some of my recordings. I asked the Navy if they could hold up until I finished recording my video but they told me to go F myself. Thanks for your concern!

Do we get round low tones out of it?
@studioxmusic
@studioxmusic 2 года назад
Hey Pras, its been quite a while since I sold the M.Miller short scale bass, being that it is a passive bass, it won't have as much tonal range as an active. If I were you, I might try out this bass by buying a used one, this way if it doesn't work out to your liking, you can always resell it with little or no $ loss. After listening to my review video again, I don't hear those real deep tones coming out of it although you can probably dial more in from your amp. If a big deep tone is what you are looking for, I would probably say maybe take a look at others instruments, hope this helps.
