Great tutorial, but it leaves me conflicted. I jumped into astrophotography a few months ago. I purchased the SVBony 80mmED refractor and a Skywatcher AZ GTi mount. Also bought a pristine Canon T5i body and adapter. I've become reasonably proficient with capture and processing software and have managed to capture some pretty decent images. However, I am 70 years old and in not so great health, and setting up for a night's imaging session is somewhat difficult. My quandary is whether I should stick with the more traditional astrophotography route (especially since I've made the financial investment) or go the Seestar route. Seeing what can be done with Seestar images in Siril just adds to my confusion.
@DeepSpaceAstro
@DeepSpaceAstro 16 дней назад
Thanks! Honestly I don't think the smart scopes can produce images as well as a traditional setup can. Don't get me wrong they do a good job, it's just they can only perform the way the manufacture designs them too. There's no upgrading the optics, camera, etc. They're a great fit for beginners and folks in situations such as yours. It comes down to each individuals needs and preferences.
@txdave2

You are the best man! Thank you from Jordan. I am lucky to have found your channel. I have a question. I have too many light frames of a single object (over 3,000). What I usually do is stack every 200 frames and save them as linear, without any processing like auto-stretching. I save the results directly after running the Seestar script. Let's say I have 3,000 frames. After stacking every 200 frames, I have 15 linear FIT stacked frames. Then, I run the Seestar script again with those 15 stacked frames and continue with post-processing, etc. Is this method the right way to deal with so many frames?
@DeepSpaceAstro
@DeepSpaceAstro Месяц назад
You can although it's not ideal. If you could stack them all at once, it's better, but I understand the challenge. If you can, I'd stack as much as you can (more than the 200) per stack. Thanks!

Thanks for this clear and easy to understand video. Having followed successfully I have processed the resultant stacked image, however having compared the result with the SeeStar internal stack I find the SeeStar stack gives the better final result. Am I missing something here? Why should one preprocessing method be different from the other?
@DeepSpaceAstro
@DeepSpaceAstro 2 месяца назад
This is more of a primer for Siril. Watch my other videos on how to use the other tools within Siril i.e. Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch, Starnet, Deconvolution, etc. Siril gives you control of the final image and in doing so can get you a better final image.
@JohnKirton-kb4gp
@JohnKirton-kb4gp 2 месяца назад
Thanks for your reply yesterday but I didn’t explain myself properly. I have been processing SeeStar stacked data in Siril for a while now using the guidance from your earlier video’s including GraXpert, Starnet and AstroSharp and I have had some amazing successes. Having then stacked the same data using the new Seestar preprocessing script in Siril and then following the identical image processing work flow, the stacked data coming directly from the SeeStar has always proved to give the better final result. What I really don’t understand why would you go to the trouble of stacking again in Siril when it has already been stacked for you by the SeeStar? What your video has made possible is to combine the light frames from different sessions which is in itself brilliant. Thanks again!!
@DeepSpaceAstro
@DeepSpaceAstro 2 месяца назад
The data that you pull out of the Seestar isn't already stacked. You're pulling the raw individual images, unprocessed or stacked. The script also rejects the subs that have bad stars due to sub-par tracking. I don't own one, so I really can't do a side-by-side comparison. I suppose if you had a good session where the stars/data were really good, the Seestar may be doing a good enough job. One benefit of Siril is it allows you to learn the whole stacking and processing side of things, if you ever decided to go with a more traditional setup.

Hi I feel kind of silly. I'm new to my Seestar, and when I try to take my image from the device I only have a single FITS file that starts with "Stacked" It's doesn't give me any files that start with "Light" like your example. Any idea what I should be doing differently?
@DeepSpaceAstro
@DeepSpaceAstro 2 месяца назад
That's the already stacked image. You need all of the individual images taken during your session. Unfortunately, I don't own a Seestar so I can't tell you where you need to look. Try asking in one of the FB groups. Sorry.

Is there a way to have a different output directory for my stacked images? My lights are saved on my desktop however I don’t have the space to stack and save the images to the same location.
