Of the many drug coated balloons marketed in Europe, only one-quarter are clinically reliable. Most deploy paclitaxel but, as investigator Bernardo Cortese explains, efficacy is limited by a narrow therapeutic window, and therefore a new drug is needed. B. Cortese introduces the concept of a sirolimus coated balloon, Magic Touch, a “new entry in the drug coated balloon field”, and reports on studies to assess performance. Join him as he talks about the FASICO (FAtebenfrateli SIrolimus COated balloon) registry, a small prospective study looking at immediate and short-term efficacy and safety. He also describes the EASTBOURNE (E All comers Sirolimus CoaTed BallOon eURopean rEgistry) registry, which he says “will probably be one of the larger studies for drug coated balloons, and will compare Magic Touch indirectly with paclitaxel eluting devices”.
