Thanks for checking it out Jimbo! Yeah I was happy with how it turned out, got lucky with the weather and a really long sunny day. Amazingly shot this using only the tiny monitor on the Komodo which I'm getting more used to relying on for shooting low profile RU-vid stuff.
Imperfection is perfection! Loved your b-rolls and the way you graded the whole thing. Very interesting lenses, Ed. Thanks so much for this great review! Cheers from Italy
god I love the footage so much! im glad you noticed the warmer 24mm, a couple of us had, and have supplied our feedback to Sirui. I thought I was going crazy hahaha. Great review dude!
Yeah, can't really complain at this price point - but they're definitely not super consistent across the set, still very impressive little lenses though!
I primarily shoot with the bmpcc 6k g2, 4k and the OG, and the idea of having a really interesting 24mm prime at T1.2 is interesting, but my problem is, for the OG and 4k I use the Lumix 12-35mm (MFT) and I have to say it's very difficult to find a lens that is more versatile than that one. Add a black mist filter and a CPL/ND filter and there is just very little that I can't feel confident about shooting. Not to mention in that setup on the 4k and OG the heaviest thing literally is the NPF battery. But that 24mm is still super interesting. Nice review by the way, your footage, as usual is top notch!
I remember that lens! Think it was probably one of the first lenses I ever bought myself for my ol' GH4 - it was great! I think the benefit of cine style lenses is their manual focus rings are much better to work with than the smaller / electronic focus rings on stills lenses. I also prefer to control my aperture manually.
Thanks for the video dude. Good, grass roots, real person style presentation. It’s refreshing to finally hear somebody say it’s ok for a lens to not be perfect. For me, it’s often the idiosyncrasies that create the character.
Exactly. I think because many probably came up through using DSLRs where lenses were traditionally marketed on their sharpness and cleaness - there is this prevailing myth that that is the pinnacle of lens design. But we're seeing a move away from that now because everyone wants "cinematic" so that's become the new marketing push
Great review. I am envious of your camera skills. I just picked up the 24mm in gun metal grey for £238! So, I am looking forward to having as much fun as you are. Not sure my results will look as good though 😊
Good stuff they're nice lenses and once you stop down a bit they clean up really well. Used them in a professional gig a few weeks back and they cut in with the DZOFilm Vespids well
@@EdProsser Maybe, I'm not sure a different housing would be enough. How would you achieve focus with these same elements when they’re further from the sensor?
@@EdProsser well, I am a lens manufacturer. To allow these types of modifications you need to move between similar flange distances. Like from a reflex mount into a pl mount. I'm only kidding of course, I'm not really a lens manufacturer. I agree, I too would like a lens set at this price point in a pl mount to future proof the purchase.
Thanks Ed. I've just ordered a set, and look forward to trying them. Since your video was made Siri have released a16mm and 75mm as you no doubt know. A very balanced review and great video. I love the look, and it is perfectly suited to your subject matter, The Clinical look has its place of course., but people are softer and these lenses help one see the people rather than the pores in their skin, which is unnatural and disturbing, I find.
@@EdProsser I look forward to seeing that ! It will be interesting to see how the Sirius lenses work with the DJI focus pro that I’m waiting on delivery . It should nail focus regardless of aperture and using a lens at T1.2 with LiDAR opens up a lot of creative possibilities, I imagine?
I'm so intrigued by these lenses, just like you to use them on my Komodo. I already have a set of Meike FF primes so I really don't need them, but since when did that stop me anyway?! :) Thanks for a great review!
Yeah I think you're gonna be hard press to get anything better at this price point, and even then these are really hitting above their price point. Similar to you, I have a set of Vespids, but I can see these being more convenient a lot of the time due to their small form factor and no need for adapters.
@@EdProsser I agree, that is exactly my thoughts too. Making the camera smaller and lighter could be a huge benefit sometimes. I hate it everytime I decide to use my Canon RF glass on the komodo (always for packing reasons), because it's too clean, even with mist filters on it gives that digital look. This miiight be the solution. But I also know it's that buying new gear sub personality making justifications now haha.
@@EdProsser I might just pick up the 24mm and have it in my "small and fun lenses"-collection together with the Helios 44-2 and some other random stuff. And then maybe it might advance itself out of that box and gets some friends :)
Unfortunately that wouldn't work - these are Super 35 / APS-C lenses and the flange distance would match, if you used an adapter it would extend the lens too far forward. You'd have to remove the existing mount and re-fit with l-mount. Event after that you wouldn't be able to shoot in full frame on the camera.
How do you mean? I don't think they make the Komodo look bad - and the fact that they're so small and cheap will likely lend themselves to a lot of environments where you might be using the Komodo as a crash cam (not me!) - or where you want a small footprint. Like I also mention - some people might have burnt up all their budget on their camera system and need some affordable lenses to get them going - I don't think you can go wrong with these!
Shooting at night would mean lighting, probably gross street lighting or bringing my own. Filming at blue hour where you have a small amount of natural light felt like a good test for them.
No you can't adapt mirrorless lenses to other mirrorless mounts due to small flange distance, you'd have to remove the original mount and then fit a new one.
Loved the video and style - grow the channel. I used to love product videos, now I'm focusing on the 'soft skills' for video. That said, I loved these lenses, your view and price. More videos. You said you live in Hackney, I'm from West, but always in East (Brick Lane) as I write this. Would love to meet up - fellow creative
Thanks man, yeah not a huge fan of doing the product videography - but love shooting people with new gear and lenses... plan to put out some more tutorial vids, just need to find the time!
