How can you not give a thumbs up to a movie comedy that you admit almost had you hospitalized from laughing so hard????? Cmon Roger just give in already....Dumb and Dumber was a thoroughly enjoyable comedy...at least Siskel got it!!
He later did say that he should have ranked Dumb and Dumber higher after seeing The Jerky Boys and Billy Madison, which he thought were movies trying to copy the D&D formula.
@7:11 Legends of the Fall. Until watching this review yesterday, I did not realize that Henry Thomas who played "Samuel" was the same actor who played "Elliott" in E.T. but now in hindsight it's like "Oh yeah, of course". The same kid who fell in love with an alien with a big head and long fingers went on to be machine-gunned to death and have his heart sliced out by Brad Pitt. It's all clear now. ;-)
Dumb and Dumber is hilarious and very stupid. How he didn’t find the scene with Jeff Daniel’s insides falling out at Mary’s House to be as funny as the parakeet scene is incredible. That still makes me laugh uncontrollably after all these years.

It's a masterpiece of love, sacrifice and despair ....it gutted me the first time watching it at 19 While in the Marines over in Okinawa missing my family
I forgot that Roger didnt vote thumbs up on Dumb & Dumber and I wonder if, like Home Alone, he questioned that decision later. D&D was just as smart as Wayne's World IMO and had true laugh out loud moments because the movie allowed the viewer to let their guard down and just enjoy the silliness. I thought the laxative scene was one of the funniest and frequently overlooked moments in the movie.
Home Alone 3 came out 7 years after the first film, and 5 from the second. He held a negative opinion about home alone for 7 years that we know of. Maybe he change his thoughts later on.
Okay so just to recap, everybody: Roger gives "Junior" thumbs up but not "Dumb and Dumber" despite being nearly hospitalized for laughing so hard. And Brad Pitt needs a haircut.
Roger's take on Dumb and Dumber is weird. He's referring to the parakeet scene btw. It was funny but it wasn't THAT funny. Driving the hitman crazy was funnier. Oh well.
Nah. It's always fair game to criticize a movie for anachronisms. His haircut is part of his costume and should make sense for the period. If it does then Roger's wrong, if it doesn't then he's right to be distracted by it. He still loved the movie though, so no reason for anyone to be offended.
never heard of "speechless" - its relegated to the truly forgotten movies. Legends of the Fall is really sappy - the character of Susannah is awful. Little Women is .....ok
