Their fight over Stella/Men Don't Leave was one of their bitchiest and funniest. Not quite on the level of Cop and a Half vs. Carnosaur, but still good.

What is lost today is the beauty of these heated disagreements. Thoughtful debate that is very heated. No personal attacks. Yet on split votes you understand that each are the others biggest fans. The tomato meter or IMDb score just does not compare.

I miss them so much. They could make or break a movie in 3 minutes.

I saw Cinema Paradiso in theaters when I was 11 yrs old. I absolutely loved it and it set the bar so high for me that all the movies that I’ve seen ever since are not even close to this masterful piece of art. Yes, there are amazing/incredible movies out there but Cinema Paradiso stands on its own and will never be surpassed in my opinion.

there's a 4th story which is the love story, which is to me the most powerful and painful part, you see that resolved in the extended version

I like Men Don't Leave. It was Chris O'Donnell's first movie.

Movies rating is (of course) subjective, but if anyone is curious of the rotten tomatoes consensus- Stella 29% Critics 77% audience (audience being much higher than critics typically means it’s a popcorn type film or a “turn your brain off to enjoy” ) Men don’t leave 82% critics and 62% audience

I think it was a bore, and it didn´t break any records at the box office either.

I lean towards a positive pov on films: u can choose to c the weaknesses of a film or c the positive sides. We Ought to be enjoying ourselves right?

I agree with Gene. I watched this film and it was awful when compared, not with films of the time--as Roger is comparing it--but rather it should be compared to the 1937 version. Miss Stanwyck was so believable in the role of Stella and when she is dressed in her outrageous outfits they really are tacky and embarrassing for the daughter. Also, when Stella discovered she was pregnant there was not man to toss away because she was a 'free and independent woman'. She was facing real shame from society and raising the child on her own was going to be a super hardship. Do yourself a favor, watch the original remake. Yes, the 1937 film was a remake of a silent film from the 20s.
