Siskel & Ebert - Quigley Down Under 

I always thought Gene Siskell was a pompous jerk. Quigley Down Under remains one of my favorite movies of all time.

R.I.P Siskel, Ebert and Alan Rickman.

Wow Gene missed this by a mile. Then he throws egg in his own face with the comment of this is why the Western movie has gone by the wayside. Then a few years later comes the best Western ever. Tombstone. KaPow!!!

This is one of those movies that came out of nowhere. This movie quickly became a household standard, and my son's favorite move. This is a western classic among all my friends who grew up watching 'Western' movies and a favorite among all my friends in the shooting community.

Sometimes they just get it completely wrong.

This is a classic example of how Siskel reviewed movies. He looks at a perfectly good movie and pans it because "Selleck is too tall" and "his goatee is pasted on." Sometimes he just had the most petty reasons to dislike a film. I'm glad Ebert defended the film even if he still wouldn't give it thumbs up. Selleck was born to play a cowboy gunslinger and San Giacomo gives a great performance as Crazy Cora (her monologue about killing her baby was extremely affecting). I'm glad Quigley Down Under eventually found a fanbase, because it's a quality film.

If anything proves to me that the critics are chronically wrong the great majority of the time, it's reviews like this. Wow are these critics wrong.

Listening to movie critics is a waste of time

I wish these guys were still reviewing movies.

This is a great movie with fantastic chemistry between the leads. The last time I watched it, I noticed some of their best moments were when words were not being exchanged.

I bet Mrs. Siskell and Mrs. Ebert would have both voted two big thumbs up for this movie. I'm afraid movie critics become jaded whenever a movie doesn't blow their minds.

Anytime you hear a critic panning a movie you know it's a good one. Most critics are pompous jerks who don't really know much about their subject matter. To be fair, I have always been a Selleck fan, going back to his days as Thomas Magnum. And from all indications, in real life, he is a pretty decent guy.

This is why you don’t trust critics people

If these two poo-pooed movies like Quigley Down Under, I bet you they’re spinning in their graves with enough energy to power a small city considering all the shit that comes out today.
