Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert both give this classic 1965 French movie a Thumb Up.

This is the most 90's review of a 60's movie I absolutely love it. Luminescent is definitely the perfect adjective.

I first saw Umbrellas of... around this time. Every single person (initially) chuckles, as is entirely sung. Soon, you fall into this Technicolor dream. BUT; by the last scene, everyone's crying (a beautiful thing). This is a one-of-a-kind film, and if you Lou love movies, I implore you to see this.

My friends mom had the demeanor and European accent of Catherine Denueve. She married a gentlemen who owned a gas station. A happy ending in true life that eluded the lovers in the movie.

Oh thank you for that happy ending! I have been seriously deeply sorrowing over the film's ending for over 50 years! Traumatized actually. Overwhelmed by inexplicably bitter-sweet sadness. I feel much better now. Although hearing this music once again still tears my heart open, the trauma is less intense. Thank you for sharing a happy ending/continuing ✌

Remember when movies were made for adults? And adults reviewed them? And there WERE adults to go see them? When did we all get so juvenile. 😢

0:40 mostly sung?? It is all sung. Bittersweet ending???? The guy in the end married a beautiful and serious woman Madeleine. Look at her! Plus they both have their own children. What else would now-matured people want? I admit I saw the movie when my boy was the same age as the boy in the end. Happy ending to me.

It's a bitter ending. But at the same time it's kind of sweet. I love it.
